  1. Hi I'm on with a build of a Scandera 60" and have a few questions: 1) When I cut out the opening for the battery/tx should I put some sort of reinforcing in such as a ply plate? However there are four lengths of 2 mm carbon rod to insert on the length of the fuz (hope that makes sense) should this be enough? 2) What is the best way to install a switch/charging lead? 3) I intend to prep the EPP with 3m 77 adhesive prior to covering, just one light coat? Do I let it dry out fully before applying the cross-weave tape? 4) I believe CG is critical on this type of glider. What's the neatest way of trimming out when it is all nicely covered? 2. Thank for the replies, I'll probably go with the spur racking but there are some great ideas. I've just done my cut list for an 8' bench. I'll probably make it 24" deep (up against the wall right under the window) do you think that's deep enough? I can't ever see a car going in there! KC there are some great design ideas on your plan. I love the tennis ball... so simple. Simon
  3. Hi We are moving house and want to plan the garage (double). What's the best way you have found to store your wings? Ta Simon
  4. I just emailed my requirements. The end to end pack that I was after was easy to understand, I suppose a drawing would be helpful if it is out of the ordinary.
  5. I had been searching round for a custom battery 4.8v AA End to End cell pack with Futaba connector. Component Shop came up trumps with a Vapextech 2600mAh batteries delivered for £9.90! Great people to deal with, highly recommended.
  6. I pronounce it Blay-zick but that's just me, it.s probably nothing like that! I've had both the Mefisto and Hammer and they are both great planes. A lot of the work is done for you but the wing joiners are fiddly (well to me they were) but not a problem. Just take your time and think about it I will definitely get another Mefisto (crashed mine beyond repair... loss of signal behind stone wall) but the Hammer will still be my favourite of the two. I can recommend varnishing the wings.
  7. Well the Alpin(a) arrived last week and I must say I'm very impressed for the money. Packaging was sufficient to get it here from Germany in good condition. It's not quite an ARC model but a lot of the work is done. Leading edges, wing and tail joiners, servo wires. A comprehensive fitting kit is included which also has the wing spoilers! The fuselage is light, but has carbon in stress areas... I will probably still add some more fibreglass though. All in all very pleased, II've already started looking at a Fox. II'll build this over the winter and report back : )
  8. Hi I just came across the Topp Rippin Alpin. It looks great value (at current rates £262) and very much like a MPX 4m Alpina. Has anyone had experience of Topp Rippin or even better had this model? Simon
  9. Cheers Bill, like they say a picture paints a thousand words! Looks a nice neat job. Did you use a jig similar to the one on the other forum? Simon
  10. Thanks for the advice and info. It is good to know that the Savox 255's fit under the servo cover bubble... it must be a snug fit! And in the RCGroups there are a few relevant posts regarding fitting the control horns dotted about through the thread. P58 Nice clear image of where you go in to fit the horn and clearly shows orientation of horn P59 Jig for fitting horns... I'm not sure about whether or not this is a good idea or needed Thanks Simon
  11. I've just received my Sunbird and it is a nice bit of kit! I'm struggling with servo choice at the moment. I've seen these which should fly in! **LINK** **LINK** My reservation is whether or not they will have sufficient torque or not. Any thoughts? (Which did you use Tony?) Also I'm not really looking forward to putting in the control horns, it looks as though a spar has to be cut through! Also it looks like another spar will have to have a substantial amount of material removed to get the linkages through. Can someone reassure me. Cheers Simon
  12. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 08/03/2014 21:46:50: what, no-one going to contradict me? Ok, I'll do it myself. It's not the most typical failure mode in my experience, a reduction in capacity is what I usually see, but it is not unknown. I have lost a model when a receiver pack lost a cell in flight. No warnings, charged ok then dropped a cell halfway through a roll. I think I may treat myself to some new batteries!!
  13. Yesterday I was using my transmitter all working fine. I put it on charge overnight but this morning noticed the charge light wasn't illuminated. I tried the transmitter and got nothing, well I say nothing but there was a quick flash on the screen and that was it. One of the club mate has loaned me a spare transmitter and I have tried his battery and all seems fine. My question... is this typical of a NiMh battery failure?
