The Hawk 70 was fabulous too. Enya 40 two stroke and flew a dream. Always wanted a Skymaster bipe but kids and mortgages got in the way....... The only model I had and wish I hadn't was Dave Smiths Saphir. Lousy wood selection and weighed a ton. Good riddance. Anybody with any Flair kits unbuilt, give me a shout. Good money waiting..... 2013 Taranis

Well light at the end of the tunnel. With a colleagues assistance,PC and his daughter providing much needed tea. We have a result. The method as suggested by Mike Blandford was used ie: a separate switched battery supply with the Rx connected to the SPC and provided we had downloaded the correct Rx firmware the Rx's updated every time. Binding too the Tx every time. The updating of the Taranis to an OpenTx will be be looked into in the darker days and nights to come. Lets not put all eggs in one basket yet. The rain may stop soon and we may get out too fly. At least all is back working. Thank you all again for your help and links. Unfortunately a lot of the links on all forums are not linking to Frsky's new layout so a lot of 404 errors are now cropping up. Regards

    2013 Taranis

Thank you for the replies. I must add the initial upgrade of the internal Xlt was done via a PC using the Frsky SPC and also tried the STK on updating the Rx. All kept getting the msg. "device not found" on connecting the Rx even though i had gone through the virtual same process with the Tx. I had the "Sport.exe" running and file in place and lastly connected the Rx to the Spc or STK but would still not connect. I had thought it may be better to download and run Companion for Mac and do all the updates via "boot loader" which i have now found out thanks to Mike Blindfold is only available if OpenTx is installed on the Taranis. I have been advised "correctly or incorrectly" that if OpenTx is installed only model builds and changes within a models parameters can be done via Companion? If this is true does a laptop "down the field" be required at all times? If that is so it seems to defeat the reason for changing to a Taranis system OpenTx.

    2013 Taranis

I've been trying to update (if possible) a Taranis 9D ACCST from 2013. The firmware is x9d- V1.1.02. Now i'm not sure whether there is "OpenTX" on it or the original Frsky OpenTx. I have tried updating the internal XTL to the Eu LBT firmware. It would appear that this has been successful however the Rx X8R does not seem too now see the Tx even if a rebind has been tried. Does the Rx now need updating to Eu LBT firmware? I have tried but the programme in the "Sport" update whilst seeing the Tx does not see the Rx. Does the V1.1.02 firmware also need updating for this to take place. Finally "Bootloader" is this only available on newer versions as i also cannot get into it. Using an iMac but not Companion.
  5. Posted by Martyn K on 17/03/2015 09:30:27: First check that the lead to the transmitter has the pins reassigned, basically you drop the 5V line and cross connect the signal and ground Look at the instruction sheet from the download link above When that is done, do not switch the Tx on until after you have selected the .frk file. When the Tx turns on, it should then be detected. Good luck M "Eyes they have but they see not" After a conversation with my colleague, (who's Tx we're trying too update) I suggested there maybe a bad connection between the FUC3 and the Frsky Smart Port cable. Or one of the leads in the Smart Port cable may be faulty. I was later rung back to be told that the leads between the FUC3 and the Smart Port cable did not match up. In fact I had connected the cables together as in the "photo step1". The problem was the leads were reversed on our unit and if Smart Port cable module with the diode was joined as the photo then we had "no device found" msg If however the diode module was reversed to the photo then everything worked OK. Moral of the story is: Don't rely on a photo, check the actual colour of the cables match to each other. Tx now updated and older Rx also updated. Thankyou.
  6. Could someone advse please. We've just tried updating the Tx module to the "EU" Frsky update and all I get after selecting the .frk file is "device not found". After many attempts the msg. always appears. We are getting the COM4 in the dropdown. We've also just plugged the FUC unit into the PC and not plugged it into the Tx and also get the same msg. If the FUC unit is not plugged into the PC and the "Sport" prog. run then COM4 dissapears from the dropdown. So from this can we conclude that the "Sport" prog. recognises the FUC module but is not maybe "seeing" the Tx module? Cables checked for pin change over. OK Tx switched on.OK There is a ? in step 5: Power the radio on and ensure the internal RF module is powered. Surely by switching "on" the radio the module is powered or are we missing something there. Any advice appreciated
  7. Can someone please explain why ? "The plastic bracket on the botton of the rudder was missing so had to construct a plywood one to get the tail wheel to work." "The elevator would not return to its original position, out by 3-4mm every time. "The hinges were far too stiff, and the brace connecting the elevator halves was not fully pressed in and butted against the tail plane during transition." So I set to shortening the control rod somehow, and removed the servo arm and disconnected the rod. I could barely move it, it was so stiff. I injected some oil into the snake, but it made no difference. I cut the end off the rod and pulled hard to get it out. I then pulled out the complete snake altogether (that didnt take much!) and tested it on the bench. again very stiff - put a slight curve in it and it almost stopped working. So back to LMS tomorrow to get some snakes and make up a complete new linkage - I'll test the rudder link as well." Why do people do this, buy a product that on the "tin" says it will fly out of the box, then spend more time and money putting right what should be right in the first place ? How many people on this site dismantle their new TV.Radio, Car etc to fix a maunufacturing fault ? Lets make this New Year "the consumer fights back Year" and return to the LMS or send items back any products "not fit for purpose". And don't start the old "well I might as well sort it out". You've paid for it to work not for you to have to fettle it to work. Send it back or start charging the manufacturer/distributer your hourly rate to put it right.
  8. When you purchased the motors did you have the motor mounts aswell. The mounts fix to the rear of the Turnigy allowing 4 fixing holes available from the front. Sorry if it sounds "sucking eggs" but. Link to Motor mnts Cheers
  9. After failing to get an e-mail answered by Ripmax re-undercarriage set re-stock. I contacted RCWorld to see how long they may have to take to get said undercarriage and whilst they did not have the item on the shelf they went to the trouble to take the reqd. undercarriage from an in stock kit and would get their replacement from Ripmax. Now thats service. Peter
  10. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 19/09/2013 11:53:05: Is the tail coming up on the take-off run? My kit-built Acro needs a little up held in to stop it nosing over because the tail comes up almost as soon as it starts to roll, and then it needs a touch more up to unstick. The tail has not come up on any takeoffs so far. Again this maybe I've not given it enough "ummph" to start with. "Martin" thank you for this type of landing approach. I'll try this at height along with the stall and find out more what it's going to do. I've been a bit cautious, as I've had to do a couple of dead engine landings with it. The last 2 flights out, after another carb. clean (nothing found) it flew as on rails with no engine probs. All the electrics, tank and tubing were changed before it's first flight. It is the heaviest plane I've flown so far and flying helis' as I normally do doesn't help in the take off and landing of planes, it only helps when it's up there. Lots more practise with it (weather permitting) Again thanks for the replies. Peter
  11. Thanyou for all the replies : "Martin" The measurement is at the rudder vertical hinge. The Acro. came to me without a tailwheel just a non original aluminium bkt without the tail wheel. The original mount fixing holes look as though the tail would have been lower. So perhaps me adding a wheel assembly to the bkt. has compounded the problem. "Dean" I see in the Super Tiger 61 manual it will go too 12*6 or 7. So that maybe worth a try. "Beb" I've not tried a "shorter" takeoff as it just does not feel like it wants to lift off until I've almost run out of runway. The speed accross the grass seems adequate for it to lift. I'll try giving it a bit more "welly" accross the grass. The Acro. came from club with a lot longer runway than mine, so maybe not a problem for them and a long takeoff was normal. I'll make enquires re-that. "David" I will take it up higher next time out to see where the stall is. "Andy" The c.g is slightly forward (3 1/4 +- 1/4) .This probably down to the non standard undercarriage. I thought I'd leave the c.g forward initially to make sure it was at least flyable. Will test some of the replies on the next outing, weather permitting. Thanks again Peter
  12. I have recently aquired a Kit built Acrowot and finding that it takes a fair length to unstick from Mother Earth. (Grass bumpy) The Acro. does not have the original undercarriage but is fitted with a heavier thicker "plastic" type and the wheels look to be further forward and lower than pictures of the ARTF version. The height of the center of the spinner from ground level is 200mm undercarriage measured at the fixing bolts 105mm and the tail measured at the hinge line of the rudder 65mm. Is it too low or too parallel to the ground? Engine is a SuperTiger 61, running on Southern Modelcraft 10% nitro with synthetic and castor oil. 11*71/2 prop. Elevator and aileron settings I've set from the ARTF manual. In the sky it tracks perfect with very little trim reqd. At just less than 1/2 throttle it "bats" along quite quick. Being more used to heli. flying, I also find it lands at a fair lick as well and needs all the available runway we've got. This could of course be my inexperience in landing this type of plane and fearing a low speed stall. An experienced colleague has flown it and he also brought it in very quick. I was advised to turn the tickover down a tad which I've done. But it still seems very fast to me to land. Are the above symptoms normal for this plane or is there something slightly out of kilter in the setup? Regards Peter

    Bye Bye forums

Posted by Danos on 30/05/2013 21:09:35: I decided to sell everything i owned as i cant do this hobby anymore reasons are weather and well the cost im jus nto getting my moneys worth. So ive sold it all and made me enuff to buy a nice pitbike Thanks for all your advice guys Adios Dan I can completely sympathise with your feelings. What with howling winds, rain, boggy fields, cows taking too close an interest in what your up to. I often wonder why I bother. The only compensation I can think of is it's saving me fuel (car and nitro). It's certainly not improving my flying skills. I've given fly fishing a miss this year due to the river last year seemingly being in a permanant flood. Perhaps certain parts of the UK are less prone to "global" sorry "climate change". Perhaps a "vote" should be started in the most "least weather affected field" in the UK. We could all join as county members. One method for getting rid of a blowing gale is of course buy a "kite", instant no wind. Best of luck in the "pitbike" world. Cheers PeD
  14. At last the "Eureka" moment. After many hours of 2 way telephonics was indulged in(actually 2 mins),calculators calculated, comptometers comptomted, the proverbial "penny" finally dropped. Perhaps it was the way the "thread" question was worded, that no one else (nor HK rep) noticed. Much grovelling may have to ensue. The Explanation In the begining (not that begining) an item from HK (in this case a glider) is selected and along with other items is placed in the "cart". Now if you've been adding up the cost of these items as you go ie:$100/£100 total, as you switch to the next stage to select method of "postage" the actual price of the items has suddenly increased by appx £7 and the "large box" required appears. Now to the uninitiated ie: "me" it would appear that this extra £7 is a charge for the "box", in fact it's the "postage" charge automatically added in to the original cart price. Now in my defence (apart from age and being an OAP with a non understanding wife) I've never seen this arragement done before. It leads you too believe that on continuing on to the next screen having selected a payment option, a further "postage" costs will have been added. Apologiese to all concerned for my misunderstanding of the purchasing system. With regard to an outer box being added. I would have thought that in this day of our "Globals" freezing at any moment, the original packaging should be made adequate without having to "beef or horsemeat" it up, thus saving yet more waste on unwanted packaging. PeD PS. If after this debacle someone has any views on the Phoenix 2000 apart from an HK rep. much appreciated.
  15. Posted by Scott Cuppello - HobbyKing on 08/02/2013 09:11:10: "No....it isn't.....any new kit we sell is taken to the main warehouse in Hong Kong where one of the supervisors packs the kit to a standard good enough for International shipping, add's dummy labels, etc, then weighs it......that weight and the box dimensions are given to the Product Team who input this data for the kit before it goes on sale......how do I know this? Because I have done it dozens and dozens of times myself......NOTHING is artificially added."   Well Mr Cuppello I've just done the exercise in purchasing a phoenix 2000 glider again. Price of glider £55.98. Price before adding Postage(£7) = £63.72 a non-"artificial" increase because a "large box" at a cost of £7.74 has been added. Now from Pete B's link we see a box costing $0.01 I can't believe the exchange rate to be this good/bad $0.01 = £7.74. What's wrong these days with some "brown" wrapping paper and sticky tape? As GlynR pointed out it's most probably extra postage cost re-size. However BEB on his purchase of the same item seems to have avoided the "large box" cost. From this can we start to conjecture that perhaps HobbyKing has become part of Ryanair, in that, the price offered may not be quite what it seems at the checkout.
