Can I attempt fixing a LiPo ?
Keith Berriman replied to Robert Alexander 1's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Hello RA is it possible to upload a picture of the damaged area -
Hello There Robotbirds have Brushed controllers listed in there webpages not sure if you are NiCad or Lipo but could well be worth a call Edited By RC Plane Flyer on 03/07/2014 16:22:41

Hi Chris its looking like the nitro has had some adverse effect on the bearings and no after run oil. I have a cowled Acro Wot and have a filling loop on the outside of the cowl and my engine runs for over 90 secs on a short piece of tube to Carb. I have removed rear bearings from engines buy knocking the out with a drift down the opening from the front bearing area. Don't be tempted to put the new bearing on the crank and pressing in into place this will stress the inner race on the bearings. I would advise maybe bearing on crank to locate in the engine body and then press in place with a suitable size socket to the outer race. I have heard of putting the bearing on the crank and into a oiled plastic bag into the freezer for an hour or so.

Hi Chris I trust I am not trying to tell you anything you don't know about engines but a tip from the Paul at Just Engines you must run the engine as rich as possible with lots of oil traces coming out of the exhaust stub test between your fingers. I have used Irvine 5% for years and advised its 18% synthetic oil and just started using 10% and noticed how cleaner the exhaust waste on the underside is cleaner than the darker when using 5%. I also advocate running the engine dry after a days racing you will be surprised how long the engine goes for on fuel remnants in the tubes and afterrun oil when getting back to Hanger. I used to run cars with 25% nitro and we could not understand why bearing failed so quickly as we did not use afterrun oil and the higher nitro was the problem Edited By RC Plane Flyer on 06/06/2014 19:37:51

Well sometimes the old fashioned ways may help and Aircraft Related The pilots used to clear scratches in there windscreens with toothpaste Maybe try a small patch in the corner to ensure it does not leave it milky

Hi Glynn too slow in logging in -- yes Cling Film is my choice and as said not too generous with the Cyno you could get the joint done with a little Cyno the add extra when removed from the film and in the open

Turnigy nano-tech going bad ???? :-(
Keith Berriman replied to Robert Alexander 1's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Hi -- Today I have been flying with my 2200 3S cells not over powering them and after a normal flight guess what 2 packs swelling, strange as these have not given any problem before. Upon closer inspection I came to the conclusion they are not swollen batteries but the heat shrink is so close that its just air pockets created by the heat. Back at home and checking the batteries they have cooled right down and normal shape ?? -
Where to find replacement Exhaust Gaskets
Keith Berriman replied to Chris Anthony's topic in IC Engines
Hi Another option which is slightly thicker than brown paper is the thin card from many of the food packing's with the cooking instruction on that the wife throws away in the recycle bin -
Hello Bernie I should wait for the experts who can advise a brushless but you would be spoilt for choice at "Components Shop" typed in Google search and the brushed motors and gear box selection is vast
-
I was going to suggest the same as an extra a little grease on the shaft through the servo arm for a smooth operation

e-fair.cherub maiden help
Keith Berriman replied to fly boy3's topic in Gliders and Gliding - General Discussion
Hi fly boy 3 my Cherub has a 140 watt brushless motor bolted on the front plate and a 1300 3 s Lipo 12 min flights only take 30% out of cells A good friend last week showed me different how to trim the glider with the CofG in the middle of the wing not on the front spar and it certainly glided a lot more powwer off once high in the sky -
e-fair.cherub maiden help
Keith Berriman replied to fly boy3's topic in Gliders and Gliding - General Discussion
Hi Fly Boy I maidened my second hand Cherub earlier this year I was glad the first throw was by a Club Member I was on 3/4 throttle thinking that was needed but it was nose up so off the throttle quick and level out. After trimming out etc landed and another throw off by Member on just over 1/2 throttle and all was well. We were in a gentle breeze. so here we go with myself, hold under CofG 1/2 throttle with elbow nudge whilst holding the glider and throw into wind level ( I am throttle Right ) and a little fall but ease in the elevator and you are on steady climb too much throttle and in noses up drammatically Happy Flying -

Hi There Model fixings maybe able to help **LINK** -
Hi Stevo heres a simple idea I use the Slec Tank clunk connector the metal part has a nipple connector on each end and all I do is fetch the fuel feed pipe to the outside of the cowl and cut in a convinient place put the connector in place and then the tube to the carb. To identify which is which I put a tie wrap round the pipe to the carb so you know which pipe to fill and drain the tank

I only asked as I always balance my props but still notice a bit of vibration at mid to high revs both on IC and Electric on various planes and I have a variation in the Hanger
-
Thanks for the responces If I was to drill a hole as best possible in the centre of a plastic spinner would this be a good starting point to get the balance shaft through ?? join the backplate and spinner together not sure about the screw fixings giving some off set Going into work shop now to try
-
I often see members mention Balance Prop and Spinners when discussing engine proplems. I would be interested in how to Check & Balance spinners

Hello Mike H Definately for safety the Battery Connection should be the Female XT60 part so the connectors are shrouded inside the unit like your sockets in the home , and the esc has the male pins of the xt 60 like your 13 Amp plug top
