  1. Hi Peter when I applied the decals to my sig four star I used warm soapy water to wet the area first, then get the decal in place then when happy use something like a bank card to squeeze the water out then leave to dry. It worked for me no air bubbles and they are still attached!! Dean
  2. How about this Islander There is also a smaller 50" one here Dean Edited By Dean on 19/11/2012 14:26:00
  3. You have hit the nail on the head there Stu, I bought very very cheaply all the parts for a deagostini spitfire after starting the build I really couldn't get excited about it plus it weighed a tonne!!!! so I sold it as a part built. 3 aircraft I am really passionate about are the Stuka, B-17 and Vulcan however I don't think any of those especially the B-17 would be good first projects. I have a set of plans for John Carpenters Stuka but a few things have stopped me from giving it a go the wing looks quite complicated to build, I am unsure how to make the spats or buy the correct size. I do love trawling the plans sites looking at all the different models, dreaming I'm not in a rush so will give some serious thought as to what I do. Dean
  4. Thank you for the suggestions I did think the TN Hurricane maybe a good idea I have re-read Tony's built thread on the 4 he built, it would be a very helpful guide. I just worry I haven't quite got the skills yet to make it look good and do it justice. So I wonder if I should hold my horses and go for something easier? Thanks for those suggestions Ady out that list the Havard, Percival Provost and Bulldog really float my boat would these be an easier build than a warbird type? dean
  5. Hi fellow balsa bashers, I currently change my mind about what to build next like I change my underpants. So far I have built a low wing sport model from a kit nearly finished my first plan build of a Kamco Kavalier and I am now in the process of building a Flair Puppeteer. I keep looking at various plans as a first scale plan build things like Piper Cubs Austers and so on. But i am not to sure these float my boat is there anything that is a good first scale plan build that is a bit more exciting? I read a Jerry Bates article his suggestions for first scale builds are:   Hawker Hurricane Early Supermarine Spitfire Curtiss P-40 Warhawk Vultee BT-13 Valiant Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Grumman F6F Hellcat (don’t bother with the wing fold or scale flaps at this stage) any thoughts? 6. Go for it!! I did, I had only passed my A test in October last year then in June this year maidened my first low wing model a kit built Sig four star 60, I done the maiden with one of the experiened flyers standing next to me giving me advice. It was really nerve wracking but worth it. It kind of closes a chapter of the build to do the maiden yourself.
  7. Love the twin Tony would make a good free plan in RCM&E Look forward to seeing the EDF version come together
  8. Thanks Stephen I will give some a try just ran out of some super glue i bought from Ebay. Dean
  9. Looking good keep at it!!! Sounds like you are getting nearer and nearer to the maiden, Will you do the maiden yourself? Dean
  10. Very interesting. Just been on the cockpit view and watched a swiss air aircraft land at Heathrow!!
  11. Sorry I don't know anything about the TN or warbird replica models but as an alternative how about the Brian Taylor Hurricane although slightly larger than the other two at 70" and there is a wood pack and abs parts for it. Dean
  12. I think this is great value at £132 72" twin and it has been converted to electric, But it is low wing Are you after an ARTF? Dean
  13. It is a box full of balsa and ply and with my limited knowledge it does seem to be very good quality wood to. Thanks Myron I have had a look at your photos and will use them as reference when I start on the fuselage, I was thinking of SC .52FS or an RCV 58CD
  14. Thanks for all the tips and information and I will defitnatly beef up that forward lower wing mount Thanks Martin Harris could have saved my model there!!!! Still undecided on engine for it. Really don't want to cut up that lovely alluminum cowl. Would the Pup fit in an estate car fully rigged? I have done a tiny bit more to the port lower wing panel and started the starboard lower wing panel.

  18. Looking forward to this Andy I recently built a Sig Four Star 60 I was very impressed with the quality of the wood and how well everything fitted together. I have been looking at the Sig and Balsa USA 1/4 cubs as my next build.
  19. Received the email thank you will have a good look at it and try to make a start this weekend
  20. Hi Tom There seems to be a lot of talk on this forum about autogyros at the minute think I should join in!!! This looks a great way for me to learn about them. Does the compressed build article have a list of bits required? I will send a PM. With my email address thank you dean
  21. Hi I have been only flying for about 18months, I fly a Wot4 with Irvine .53 and a Sig Four Star 60 with OS .65LA, next on the list is a Kamco Kavalier built from plans fitted with a SC .36 ( nearly finished!!! ) and I have just started a Flair Puppeteer. My long long long term goal is a Tony Nijhuis Wellington from Slec. I am not sure what to get next to improve my flying skills. Options I think i have are: 1. 1/4 scale Balsa USA Cub - will do this anyway to get some larger model building and flying experience, will it help to fly warbird type models though? 2. 2nd hand warbird - No emotional attachment and can start learning straight away and fairly cheap, will it end in a bin bag though? 3. Electric foamie warbird - same as above 4. Other ARTF type model with higher wing loading and flaps - Dean
  22. Thanks chaps Thank you very much Richie for that excellent tutorial and photos!! I am trying to decide whether to build a 78" John Carpenter Stuka from plans I have the cowl is build from balsa so would need to make up or get hold of simular size spat and canopy for it. or do I do a Zirolli stuka instead? £££££££ though
  23. Hi everyone When you build from plans that don't have the cowl spats and canopy available to purchase what do you do? I understand how to make a simple plug for a non scale model but ahat about a more complex scale caonopy? would a company like vortex vacforming make one offs for a plan? Or do you look for simular models of a simular size and buy the bits from that? Thanks Dean
  24. Hi Billy I have the John Carpenter Stuka plan to, although I haven't been brave enough to start it! I have only built 1 ARTF, 1 kit and nearly finished my first plan build of a kamco Kavalier and started building a Flair Puppeteer to. How far have you got with it? you just might kick start me into having a go at mine!! As for trainers I to came back to the hobby after a break, I bought an ARTF Wot4 real pussycat on low rates then open the throttle increase the rates and it is a Tiger!! Dean
