  1. Hello all you FW190 builders - I am still slowly getting there! Concentrating on the wings at the moment and trying to work out the best way to cut the retracts shape from the lower wing skins. I think I need to cut them out before attaching the skin as I can't see how I can do it afterwards and get them in the right place! Maybe a card template of some sort? What have you experts done? Also Tony suggests sticking the wings together before skinning - I think this would make it harder to hold the wings steady and avoid warping. Is there a reason I shouldn't skin them individually? I am also looking for a suitable steerable tailwheel. It took me 3 purchases to get main wheels that were thin enough to tuck inside the wing, so any advice for the rear wheel would be welcomed. Thanks
  2. Well done Bucksboy! I know that Tony said that a steerable tailwheel would help takeoffs - I think I will fit one to mine when the time comes. My build is progressing slowly as it has been over 25 years since I bashed my last bit of balsa! It would be good to see some flying pix or video of your butcher bird. to inspire the rest of us!
  3. Hi Bucksboy I was thinking of using resin on mine too. I have recently returned to modelling and have only ever used film (and tissue many years ago). I have a compressor in my workshop, but never sprayed anything with it yet! But how do you cover the parts that aren't sheeted - the rudder for example? If you could check to see if your doublers go to F2, that would be helpful. Maybe the plywood will bend, but it seems pretty stiff to me. Phil
  4. Wow, that's looking really good! What did you cover it with? I have checked Tony's build photos and it really seems that his doubler is half the size of mine! Here is Tony's between F4 and F3.... Here is mine, between F4 and F2 My fear is that the plywood between F2 and F3 will not allow the fuselage sheeting in front of the wing to bend around F1. Anyone else had this problem? Phil
  5. It's been a while since anyone has posted..... has anyone completed the model? Mine is progressing very slowly, but am enjoying it and impressed by the accuracy of the CNC cut parts. However, I have a question for those who have already skinned the fuselage. I have just glued on the ply wing doublers between F4 and F2 and I can't see how the lower fuselage sides will be able to bend around F1. Surely the part ot the plywood doubler between F3 and F2 won't allow it. I checked Tony's build photos and it seems that his doublers only go half of the wing chord, ie between F4 and F3. If that is the case, then I am sure there will be no problem with the bend. Is there a mistake or have I missed something? What did you do? Phil
  6. I have been in touch with Tony and have ordered a set of his plans.   It seems that MHS prefer to print on smaller sheets of paper. Completely understandable for the magazine issue, but just plain mean for the £22.50 plan. In future, I will order everything directly from Tony as I would like to get them as he drew them - I think MHS should make it clear that the plan that they charge for is no different to the free one and is not the same as the one available from the designer. Not a good start to my winter build! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. Well, I received my back issue RCME special today with the free 190 plans. The plan I paid £22.50 for from My Hobby Store is exactly the same, but on better paper and printed on one side only. It seems that the plan supplied by Tony for £20 is more detailed. The tailplane is one example, I assume there are many others. Here is a screenprint of a photo from Tony's build photos showing the whole tailplane drawing. I will buy the full plan from Tony as I need as much building help as possible, but I really think that I have been short changed by My Hobby Store. I wonder if Tony knows about the difference? @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. Thanks for the replies Ron and Bucksboy. Any photos of your builds by the way?   Unfortunately my plan has no dotted other tailplane half.   I bought the plan from My Hobby Store, together with the CNC pack. I have just ordered the magazine as a back issue, so maybe the free plan is the better one!   My plan came on 4 sheets. Here is the tailplane part, on the edge of the paper.   Am I missing something?   Phil @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  9. Hi all I have just received the FW 190 plan and CNC pack and am ready to start the build. I though I would start with the tailplane first. Building notes on the the plan suggest building directly on the plan - however, only one half of the tailplane is printed. Checking Tony's build photos, I see that his plan has the whole tailplane printed. Any one else found this problem? @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
