  3. Posted by Dave Bran on 27/11/2009 18:50:31: Sorry, but explain to me the logic in buying 5C rated batteries and then only ever using 1C charge rate as per ordinary (and cheaper) cells................No, I thought not.............................  .    well the logic goes like this the 5c cells will have a much longer service life than the 1c cells we've been moaning for the past 5 years about the longevity of cells and the fact that some if used near their c rating have only lasted for as little as 20 cycles. so the manufacturers have answered this with cells that will be capable of lasting in theory much longer than the cells we have been using to date. the side effect to this is cells that are capable of being charged at 5c.       so the question is do you want 1c or 5c cells???? steve
  4. The other problem you have here as well is the more you cane a battery the less time it will last the longevity of the cells is seriously reduced the more you pull from them. this is regardless of the "C" rating.........if you look at it this way this may help to explain it. take to identical cars and lets call it car A and car B. car A's driver is a careful driver he is gentle on the throttle and lets the car warm up before he starts off in the morning. car B's driver isn't so careful he sits at the lights revving the car up and screaches away on the first sign of a green light he starts his car first thing and generally abuses the engine every day. which of these vehicles do you think will be the first to the scrap merchant?? the careful driver or the guy who thinks he's driving in the grand prix? steve
  5. i'd go spekky myself but then i've not touched Futaba since i lost £1k worth of aircraft due to a tranmitter fault that apparently did'nt exsist!!nasa
  6. and was as rare as hens teeth when you could due to the very plan in question i built 3 of these in the end and was my first low wing model steve
  7. The bobcat has been availiable in the uk for a while now some known as the falcon , yt international do a .52 size example, try ashford models for the falcon I think if memory serves me correctly steve
  8. that piccy is from a jet rally in the USA in 2007 it is a 100mm haoye fan unit the new skyworld units i would have thought are far superior to that unit.......although it goes to show which direction EDF was going back thensteve
  9. Posted by Dusty on 24/11/2009 20:23:06: Yes i have, concerns me with the long alu thrust tube though with fitting the system in some models where the thrust tube will need to be narrowed...   The link you proposed is this fan  scroll bottom of page, orange bobcat on rhs?   There is still no price mentioned on the other fans (tells me wife will be leaving sharpish) at least my 1st link offered a price, lander QC is good imo...      i could'nt see an orange bobcat are you sure its on that page dusty??  no price because they don't trade to the consumer directly steve Edited By nasa_steve on 25/11/2009 17:26:10

  11. hi guys    i beg to differ on the servo's they should just about cut it on the motor/setup that Birdy has although i would'nt try heavy aero's with it. 2kg servo's although a little light will work with only 250w on offer. it will be very trainer esq as such.     i helped mr hawes with some of the development on the whizza and it will fly on some very light set-ups indeed i think i've even heard of one being flown indoors. the version i had was 500w and could be launched vertically.regards nasa

  14. i would'nt hang on motocalcs every word as i have had many models it said would not fly be absolute corkers use it only for a ballpark ideanasa
  15. crikey this old thread has popped up again. to be honest i would still not buy one priced as they are and certainly not one from HK the only way you CAN gaurantee that it is UK spec is to by from Macgregor i'm afraid.    so in essence no you cannot gaurantee that you will not have problems by buying from HK or whether they are actually legal to use in the UK. i mean in all honesty how difficult would it be to make a sticker with CE on it??? nasa Edited By nasa_steve on 04/11/2009 16:46:34
  16. Posted by IanN on 31/10/2009 00:21:20: Allan said "here is some footage of the crash on YouTube"   No there is not.   There is no footage of the crash. Nothing that informs. Just some film of some seriously great display flying, then a fireball in the background.     sorry do you feel short changed ??? allan has put up the only footage we know of sorry thats not good enough personally when £10k's worth of aircraft goes in i'm sure the owner would rather not be reminded of it to be quite honest...   you'll be glad to hear the model has been replaced and Matt is flying to top form again
  17. Posted by Dusty on 19/10/2009 17:42:27: . Anyway Scott from BRC might be able to help you more as he was hepful with the 70mm some time back! Good luck  i dont' think scott is around at the moment Gary or Brian should be able to help i'm sure.  i've had a 68mm unit go up in smoke and it was being used well within its parameters and as far as i was concerned was a faulty motor although no waranty was claimedsteve

  21. Hi all     just a quick enquiry a club friend of mine has been having problems with his CRRC 50 engine he is on his 2nd ignition unit and we've a feeling this one has packed as well now. the engine will start run for a few seconds then stop if we then turn the ignition on and off again it resets and will start again run for a few seconds and cut again. now after it cuts there is no spark at all when we turn the engine over. the other day it done the same thing but after a couple of resets the engine ran fine for 4 flights. it now won't even start.     has anyone else experienced this problem at all we've checked the ignition battery which is absolutely fine but we are at a loss to the answer. now there does seem to be power to the ignition unit as when it is switched on you can hear what sounds like the high pitched whine like a camera flash makes.      does anyone know of a fix for this problem or do you think it needs another ign unit if so we have to ask could there be some other problem thats causing these ign units to go??? steve s
  22. i would'nt use li-po's on that the low voltage cutoff would kill a 3cell pack and a 2 cell come to think of it. so basically NO don't use li-po'snasa
  23. had exactly the same thing happen to me it is a brown out notification it does'nt have to go to full brown out but the flash is there to tell you something went wrong. i would send the receiver complete back to horizon and get them to check it.i would also check satillite position for my first point of view nasa
