Hi Pete, Lovely model, i have been looking at the Hobby King version, where did you get this one from if you don't mind me asking ? I use an orange 6 channel in my Easy glider and have 'lost comms' once with it, had to power off Tx and back on again to recover, luckily the aircraft was at height and thermalling so no damage. Since sticking the aerial throught the fuselage i've had no probs since.

Looks like mine to me -
Hi Graham, I would have to agree with you there. My kids bought me a Sabre, which i fitted with extreme skids ( very good ). It helped me no end being able to practice with it outside and in, although the paint work took a bit of a battering to start with. I would also recommend going to a professional place, we have ATS and Paul Heckles both local, to get your heli and TX set up correctly. They may cost a few quid but at least you know that everything is set up right and after a test flight you know what your heli can do in the right hands aswell. Worth every penny in my eyes.

Hi Graham, Great news about the new series, I bought a raptor 12 months ago and haven't looked back since. The best piece of advice i could give anyone starting out is to buy the best simulator you can afford that is compatible with your Tx and spend as much waking time on it as possible before trying it for real. Setting up the engine is quite a challenge to those not in the know. I look forward to reading the new section.

I agree with Derek an article would be a good idea but which transmitter would you choose, I went along to Paul Heckles school of flying to get my heli set up and he showed me things that I never knew existed on my FF7. I think the best way to learn is to have someone show you how to set it up, reading about it is all very well but what do you do when you then come across something that you are not expecting ? In my case I couldn't set up the throttle cutout and no matter how much reading of how it should be done it just wasn't having it. It wasn't until Mr Heckles showed me how to access the 'secret' menu on the FF7 we found the throttle trim reversed, something the book doesn't mention.

I mainly use my FF7 with my raptor and have found that the tranny runs down very quickly, several members at the club have also experienced the same issue with fixed wing. I sent my TX back to Ripmax but they were unable to find anything wrong and replaced the battery pack, this made no difference. Eventually i changed the 700ma pack for a 2400 size pack and the problem is no more. By running down quickly i mean that you could switch on at say 11.2v and then watch it count down to less than 9.5v within several minutes.

How local is your 'local flying field'?
Carne Richardson replied to JFH's topic in All Things Model Flying
If Iam taking the gliders out then its 10 mins drive to the white horse and another 15 mins walk up to the top, the flying site for my heli is 30 mins drive away.
