Police turn a blind eye to lane hoggers
Steve McIntosh replied to Dai Fledermaus's topic in Chit-chat
What should be remembered is that the speed camera only corroborates my observations that your vehicle is travelling at excessive speed. As has been said before provided the officer details in his statement that the time on the recording is out then it is rarely a problem. Again you were stopped, presumably had your details recorded and various checks on you would have been carried out at the time. Using the tactic that you were elsewhere at the time shown on the camera would be very unwise and unlikely to succeed. -
There are as many recommendations as to trainers as there are trainers. personally I have a Bixler 2 and love it. Although you can teach yourself I don't think you can beat a buddy box as part of a club.

Police turn a blind eye to lane hoggers

Posted by Bob Cotsford on 21/01/2014 09:56:18: ah, that heinous crime, failing to wear a seatbelt! Apart from the obvious fact that it's easy to spot and therefore easy to issue a fine, please can someone explain why it is an offence in the first place? This is one of those laws, like crash helmets, that seem to be based purely on potential long term financial cost savings for health services and not on risk to other road users. What am I missing? The obvious one of going through the windscreen. The results of which I have seen. -
I have a foamie Wot4 and then tomorrow I'm getting a HK FW190 to move onto after that

Returning to RC modelling after a break
Steve McIntosh replied to Biscuit Powered's topic in Why Not Say Hello....
Hi Neal, Don't rule out the ARTF too quickly. Its a good choice to get something up in the air quickly whilst the latest project is under way. I have a Bixler 2, ARTF Wot4 and getting a HK FW190 for Xmas then in the New Year intend to start a Dawn Flyer as a proper build. Steve -
Agree about the U/C however our field can be a bit rough(sheep!) so am considering using U/C for take off and then belly land her. Change the prop to a 2 blade.

Anybody?

Hi Guys, Just ordered myself one of these for my Xmas box, although I don't intend to fly it until next summer when I'm more experienced. In the meantime anybody got one and any recommendations to make for mods/improvements etc.

1st to admit I'm no expert but could it be some kind of elevator/rudder mixing combo on the transmitter. If a different rx is doing the same presumably the problem must be at t'other end

I have all my tunes on my phone(Iphone 5) and listen via a wireless Jambox. Works great

That is amazing. By the time I've glued it and run a strip of tape around the seam you won't even see where the break was. Thanks Guys Steve

And so to work then cheers

So after several flights with my new Bixler 2 today it decided to land itself vertically and nose first. Whilst the damage isn't too bad the nose has snapped off just before the wing, split in two at the seams and wrinkled upward. It fits back together quite well apart from where it wrinkes. How do I straighten it out back to its original shape(or as near as!!!). I seem to remember reading about repairing EPO in one o f my mags recently but cannot remember which one and whether it was a recent mag or an older I was re-reading. I seem to remember it has something to do with hot water. How hot and do I just dunk it in and leave or what? Thanks Steve

Problem with ESC or motor
Steve McIntosh replied to Steve McIntosh's topic in Gadgets and Electronics
Bought myself a wattmeter this morning which showed that both batteries were fully charged and balanced. Checked all the connections which seem to be okay and ensured that they were all well isolated from each other. Still no go the motor just wouldn't spool up properly and kept stopping. Sod it bought a new ESC from BRC(fortunately its only 5 mins away) and hey presto this one is full of the magic smoke. Motor now runs lovely, bring on Sunday(Hope the blue skies here at the mo remain) Thanks for all the advice and suggestions know where to come in future -
Problem with ESC or motor

So I tried a brand new balance charged battery today with the ESC out of the plane. It wouldn't spool up properly and kept starting and stopping. Fiddled with all the connectors which seem(admittedly I'm not the best at soldering) secure and made no difference. I guess its a trip to BRC tomorrow for a new ESC see if that makes a difference and if not I'm stumped and have a spare ESC for next year(fancying the Dawn Flyer) -

Again thanks guys From what I am hearing would tend to suggest LVC is what I am seeing. I have a spare battery so will try that tomorrow and see if I am getting the same thing. -
Problem with ESC or motor

Thanks for all the advice guys. To be fair we didn't change the battery after the first flight as my instructor put a wattmeter on the battery and said there was still 81% left in it. Inexperienced as I am I still feel that it is the ESC that is it fault. The battery was balanced when charged and is brand new(mind everything is). I think I'm going to bite the bullet tomorrow and buy a new 30a ESC. Will let you know Steve -
Problem with ESC or motor
Steve McIntosh replied to Steve McIntosh's topic in Gadgets and Electronics
Thanks for the quick response Yes Pete it was velcro'd onto the inside of the fuz by the flat side but when I was testing it in the house this afternoon I had it out of the plane altogether and it was still the same -
Hi , New to this and need some advice before I spend more money!!! I recently bought myself a Bixler 2 from Hobby King and a Turnigy 25a ESC to go with it. First time I flew it(on a buddy box mind) the plane flew beautifully for the first 2-3minutes then when for a further 2mins when I tookover on the buddy box. Then the motor died and my buddy took over and landed it, seemingly under full control. Everything seemed OK so we tried again but within 1min the motor again died but it was still under full control and landed safely. Neither the ESC or motor seemed particularly hot but I admit I am no expert. I tried everything today and again after a couple of mins the motor dies and then seems to be trying but keeps cutting out and running in fits and starts. Am I right in thinking it is a duff ESC or is it likely to be just overheating(in which case how do I cool itO or is it more likely to be the motor overheating(I assumed if that was the case it would simply burn out!!!) Thanks in advance Steve

That was stunning!!!
