I did exactly the same. Went to B&Q got a piece of 4mm shaft steel(or try a drill blank ) Cut off a 60mm long piece and hey presto. The only thing to be wary of is to choose the section that isn't bent like a donkeys hind leg(Guess how I know!!!). Seems to work
