  1. Posted by Paul Marsh on 11/08/2013 14:41:18: Yeah, did check Hobbyplastic and both bits were out of stock. Saitos are good engines, but if you want bits, might as well forget it. Shame to scrap the 80, because of a simple part like a needle valve. Will keep an eye out at the Nats swopmeet - you never know what you might come across. As for Saitos, might not get anymore, unless there is a UK distributor. Might as well forget Macgregor - getting anything off them is a waste of time - they don't need our custom... Paul I would recomend Phils Hobby Shop in Fort Wayne USA quick and reliable and fair postal charges to boot.

    Saito low end needle

I think he had a few so it probably got mixed up.

    Few questions

Hi Ryan as stated the fuel thing is fine. For the nose wheel what you need to do is brace/support the rod that attaches the wheel to the servo. In mine I drilled a hole through a balsa block , passed the rod through it and bonded the block to the inside of the fuselage. This stops the steering rod bending , move the wheel with your fingers and you will see what I mean. It was a great mod and is still in place today being used buy the lad I sold my trainer too.

    Saito low end needle

Problem Solved Thanks to a heads up on the part number being the same as the 82b I took the low end needle out of my nearly new 82b and compared the two, The needle from the 100 had a shorter thread hence not being able to turn it in far enough. I think the wrong needle was put in when it was cleaned and laid up. £1.97 plus post and she's running like a sewing machine. Thanks for your input chaps.

    Saito low end needle

Thanks for your input Martin, The wear/air leak was my first thought too . Today I tried the blow down some fuel tube and open the low end needle trick, with a pin in the barrel i blew down the tube and as I expected only a 16th or less of a turn out from fully closed gave a small hiss of air . It ticks over and picks up but its not rite .

    Saito low end needle

Posted by Martin Harris on 30/07/2013 21:21:11: I think you'll find the individual carb parts are a fairly reasonable price even if the complete assembly is a fairly hefty £61.25 Yes its hefty and unavailable from Macgregor in the UK but from the US its $70 /£45 delivered. Do I bite the bullet or buy the seperare bits? The throttle barrel alone is £18 + p&p and thats the only bit they have in the UK

    Saito low end needle

Thanks Percy , I have seen that site and have emailed the guy to ask him for his opinion. Im sure its just because its rich that the fuel goes so quick and not just the make. I also have an 82b .   Edited By Justin K on 30/07/2013 20:48:37
  8. I have a Saito FA 100 acquired from a club mate. The engine had been laid up for some time and has just had new bearings fitted. It runs nicely BUT the low end needle is now wound fully in and its still a bit rich? I've had a few flights with it but its smokey and greedy on the fuel. It ticks over ok but having tuned a few four strokes now I know its not rite. I understand the low end needle on the Saito controls the mixture for 75/80% of the throttle range hence the poor fuel economy. MacGregor have a comprehensive list of spares but none in stock so Its going to be a USA order. Is it a simple fix with the o ring set or would I need a new low end needle or even a sprarbar too? If I could buy from the UK I would go one step at a time with replacements but ordering from America that option is expensive. The other option is a compleat new carb that isn't dirt cheap but would still represent a good investment considering the small amount I paid for the engine in the first place. Any Saito people out there have any thoughts? Thanks Justin.
  9. I like to fit Du Bro tanks into my airframes. I have had a couple of leaking bung issues in the past with tanks supplied in the kits but have never had an issue with a Du Bro. Fittings wise the clunk and pressure pipe are fitted as standard but for the fill/drain I bend the supplied metal pipe into a U shape , then fit a small piece of silicone tube and a second clunk to it. Its a bit of a fiddle but you end up with the pipe/clunk sat securely in the forward protruding part of the tank. When it comes to draining simply lift the tail and the tank empties bone dry every time, Its far easier than inverting the airframe every time.
  10. Has anyone had an issue with the C of G ? I maidened mine last week and despite pushing my 1800Mha LiPo pack to the rear of the tray it was still very nose heavy. She flew ok but did need a lot of up trim to get a decent glide. Ive since set it up on a balance jig at home and have had to remove the batt tray, spin it 180 degrees and fix it using the rear screw holes bonding a couple of bridging tabs to the mid section woodwork to secure the rear. It now balances nicely so I hope i can get rid of that up trim next time out. I will give her a go tomorrow afternoon . Other than than I was impressed with it , I don't think I will ever become overly interested in gliding but it was cheap and offers a good relaxed flying option . Will setting Aileron differential aid its turning ? if so how does this work ? J
  11. I "think" my flying buddy has acquired a couple of these a isn't to impressed with the performance . I may be wrong but they have a larger crankcase than the 70 size so due to the weight the power output suffers,
  12. Hi I have only ever used Hobby King for small bits and pieces imported from the far east and have never had a problem except for the delivery time. I am looking at an airframe that is unfortunately unavailable from the UK warehouse but is in stock in the Netherlands, my question is am a likely to get stung for tax ? or being part of the EU is this not an issue? Ive never bothered in the past as my purchases have not been worth much. Thanks J
  13. I have a Calmato and agree they are great planes but I think it would along with the Hangar 9 pulse be very similar to your spacewalker.
  14. Posted by Hogster on 27/04/2013 10:22:09: Hi Guys, When securing a brace to an undercarriage leg and wire wrapping the joint as you might do for soldering, would using epoxy adhesive be an adequate alternative to solder? I know its not much help directly but I TIG weld all mine . Luckily I have a £12000 set at my disposal and I do it for a living but you wont get a better result. If you live near me I am partial to beer If not and its a special project why not see if someone local likes beer too. J..
  15. Steve , look no further than a seagull edge 540. They are a shade under £100 at Kings Lynn models at the moment and I cant fault mine. They are advertised as suitable for a 46 but a club mate fitted his Irvine 46 and was disappointed, I have a 53 in mine and its ok but not fantastic. A 60 size 2 stroke IMHO would be the perfect engine. J..
  16. Yes I too agree with the above, you should be able to do a nose up test despite being on your own. Yes its easier with an assistant but it's really advisable to do this when setting up your engine. J..

    prop size

I use a 13x8 on my 91 surpass powering my seagull extra 300s . Unlimited vertical full chat but most of the flight is done at just over half throttle. Edited By Justin K on 27/04/2013 07:26:47
  18. I would go with the Perkins sugestion too, I have one of the Turnigy tachos and its rubbish like yours. A flying buddy has the Perkins one and its great, It gives a good reliable and constant reading. I should buy one soon really I supose.
  19. Have used them a couple of times before the relocation but they are soooo expensive. The old shop was a bit off the beaten track but this one even more so, hope they find the trade. I tend to stay away from Gosport as its full of old sailors and crazy South Africans flying wild 3D routines. Good luck MP&Ts
  20. I liked the look of it as soon as I clapped eyes on it but whats gone on prise wise?? Its simalar if not more money to the original 60 size warbirds but no retracts at all?? Bit cheeky imho.
  21. Hi Duncan, I have one and have the manual here. C of G is 88 - 92 mm back from the leading edge at the root and the throws are Rudder 35 mm each way Aileron 6mm up and down and Elevator 10mm up and down. I have mine balanced at 90 mm back. I have fitted electric retracts and sprung oleo's to mine . Its a great flyer a real pussycat and cruses nicely at half throttle powered by an SC 70 fs. I would post some pics but its a proper work up on this forum for some reason ? You tube footage of my retract mods at    Fly4FunFun2Fly Hope this helps J Edited By Justin K on 24/02/2013 11:17:25
  22. Crispin , do you want to buy any of his stuff? If yes then message the guy or ring/text him and offer a cash price? If no then stop worrying about other peoples time and move on ?? There are more than enough rouge sellers and scammers out there to worry about a guy who cant make up his mind how much money he wants for a model.
  23. Posted by crispin church on 22/01/2013 11:47:31: seen these up for sale so many times now where does he get his prices from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rc-plane-scale-lysander-/111002255863?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item19d84001f7 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rc-plane-scale-p47-razor-back-jug-/111003345510?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item19d850a266 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rc-plane-3d-patten-ship-/111003346258?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item19d850a552 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rc-plane-ghost-rider-/111003346674?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item19d850a6f2 I'm am really not sure why you have flagged this guys auction pages?? I have bought a nice Hangar 9 warbird from him through a private negotiation after it didnt reach its ebay reserve. He has loads of stuff some good some not so but and when you know the circumstances for downsizing you would see he is just trying to maximise his return. I cant see the problem?
  24. I have just purchased a Saito 100FA from a club mate.It is my fourth four stroke and really does look and sound beautiful. Its going into a Hangar 9 Hellcat, what size prob do you people recommend? two and three bladed. Also I want to fit a dome prop nut that is starter friendly any Ideas / recommendations?
