  1. Posted by Lee Smalley on 22/11/2012 19:55:11: i should be on commission for Kyosho !! Calmato is just about the best low wing trainer i have flown!!!! I will second that .
  2. Hi the calmato was my second plane and i loved it , still do. The only slight downside being the covering lifting. I still realy enjoy flying it now and often find my self having to leave it at home so my more advanced stuff gets flown.
  3. My 10 year old has been a few times with me but soon looses interest. He is pretty good on the sim and follows instruction well, unfortunately he is not interested in landing and just slams them into the deck when he has had enough. Now my younger son who is 2 in a weeks time absolutely loves coming to the field. He constantly points at the planes and gives a great ready steady go at takeoff time. Our new Sunday eve thing is to watch people flying on you tube and he gets very exited , it is great to see. I am looking forward to the warmer weather when we can take him for a day with a picknic and he can see dad doing his thing on the sticks. I have high hopes for this little chap and would love to teach him in the future.
  4. I use both but prefer the 4 strokers, I have an SC 70 in my ME 109 and it sounds awsome
  5. Grrr a bit of a moan , Why do some artf kits come with such small fuel tanks?   I am constructing a Seagull 90 size Extra and its only got an 8 oz tank?? Not the end of the world to change it but come on I want to fly the thing not just taxi up the strip   Rant Over, Du-Bro tank ordered , Dremmil on standby. Edited By Justin K on 27/10/2012 10:27:07
  6. Hi Stuey, I would say you will be well down on power. I recently removed an Irvine 46 from a Kyosho Calmato for a bearing replacement and while it was out I took the opatunaty to bed in a new SC70 fs . Although it suited the airframe fine in lacked the performance of the 46 so with a 53 I would say you would be well down on power.
  7. O yes count me in please, any freebie is a bonus but a cap would do me nicely thank you.
  8. Hi Dean, after some exelent advice on the forum I have an SC70 that runs great inverted. But I decided before covering it inverted in the cowl of the ME 109 it was bought for I would give it a good few flights uprite and exposed in my Kyosho Calmato airframe . This allowed me to fine tune it and realy get to know the engine. I found I had to go nearly a whole turn on the slow needle and it runs at just over a turn on the main needle I have since mounted it in the 109 and it runs like a dream, it's just an idea? But I found it a great way to set it up and prove it was a good runner before putting the invertion bit into the equation. The only problem was it nearly cost me a new engine as I loved it in the Calmato and had to wrestle it out hope this helps , J
  9. Posted by David Ashby - RCME on 11/09/2012 20:04:27: In the shops 24/9, subscribers will receive before by a few days. It'll be a close one Justin. Edited By David Ashby - RCME on 11/09/2012 20:06:36 Thanks David, I will miss out this year. Got it last year as we went a week later. o well will get it on my return. Good job I put the October issue straight into the case before reading it.
  10. Hi, When is this years special edition in the shops? Going on holiday in a week and a half and wondered if it would be out before. ? J
  11. Great Peter well done I will get you a beer, fancy a quick session tomorrow morning we have a two hour time slot before it rains again! No ? O sorry I didnt realise all your cells were in storage charge ? O well never mind better weather will be with us in two weeks
  12. Just come back from a fantastic days flying at Beaulieu , the only wherrrr of an electric motor was the sound of the Sullivan starters cranking up some lovely IC power plants Now could someone explain all this ease of use stuff? We arrive at the site, unload the car, bolt on a wind, fit LiPo/fill tank, fly and land, repeat the last for as many flights as you want . Ok so time for home and the guy on electic does not need to spray and wipe his airframe down and dribble some after run oil in so he leaves the site five minutes before the IC guy . But on returning home the electric flyer can't leave his LiPo's in a state of limbo and must have a charging session to save the life of his batterie investment ? Whilst I head or to the pub for a late lunch with the family, telling them of my epic adventures and the the near miss with the last remaining Flying Lacaster bomber (true story it happend today) I fly both and really don't go with this ease of use thing?
  13. By the way Justin, surly a bit of chat is a good thing, watch other progress . . . thats a bit like going to a bar and drinking continusly, or chain smoking, 'its for the sake of it rather than the pleasure?' . . . moving with the times . . . CJS Edited By Clifford Stone on 31/08/2012 19:29:28 I was commenting on the batterie statement Clifford Its a bit like adding to a discussion forum and not respecting others views and ideas? Whilst chain smoking or whatever orher odd sinarios you can come up with.
  14. Posted by Ben B on 31/08/2012 18:40:26: IC flying is very anti-social. I mean when I fly my IC planes I just turn up at the field with a big bottle of glow fuel and fly, refuel, fly, refuel etc until the sky goes dark and I go home happy. Hardly have time to talk to anyone. With 'leccy flight unless you own more lipos than hobbyking you tend to spend quite a lot of time standing around talking whilst batteries charge I like your sentiment
  15. Due to my main club loosing a site and the availability of a new club closer to home I have ended up with two electric powered planes this year. I enjoy the fun of the foamy but in all honesty my heart is heavily on the IC side of the fence. I find the whole electric thing OK for getting a flight in but in my opinion its rather soulless, OK some/many would argue with that statement but that's my feeling. Whilst chatting about the subject to a flying buddy last weekend I said if I could not fly IC anywhere I would give up. Not sure if I would but I really do hope I never have to find out. J

    sc70 four stroke

Success! I re set thre barrel to a more normal opening at idle and tuned the main needle to max , I could hear it this time? It's a more sutle tone but I could defiantly tell at peak revs. I know now that it was way too rich before. Tweeking the low end I have had to go in just over half a turn , it runs nicely now and picks up well , just need this wind to calm down to give it a flight . Thanks again Steve and chaps .

    sc70 four stroke

Just looked and it is a 12-6 . Thanks again Steve for your help. Its all good learning and an enjoyable aspect of the hobbie ,funnly enough a club mate who solely flys electric commented recently on how my engines seem to start and run without hassle and as you say once they are set then little tinkering is needed . These 4strokes are new to me so the learning curve starts again. Sat looks a bad flying day so I will head up to the patch and have a good rev session as I doubt anyone else will be there.

    sc70 four stroke

Thanks for that Steve. I think I have an 11-6 on it so will step it up to what you are running . The sound / pitch of the engine is so much harder to hear than with my 2 stoke engines . I will get a bigger prop and have a go at it using your advice, it does make sence it being rich on both needles with the bigger gap at the carb

    sc70 four stroke

If I close it down more it stops. The tickover did slow when I took the glow starter off. Maybe it's worth leaning of the low end needle now?

    sc70 four stroke

Quick query regarding my SC 70 FS. After putting a few tanks through very rich on the test stand I have had it running in my airfrome today, A nice new OS plug had it running ok at about one and three quaters open on the main needle (not touched the slow yet) , all seems ok but the barrel seems to be open far mor than when I set my 2 stroke engines up? Its probably about a quater open at steady tickover. Is this normal for a four stroke ? or am I missing something ? Any help most welcome J

    SC 70 fs shaft thread

Thanks everyone for your input, it's going into a 40 size VQ BF-109 so I plan to use the supplied spinner to match the cowl. Steve I totally understand your thoughts and the Perkins set certainly sounds a bit more reasonable, I will look into who can supply that. J .

    SC 70 fs shaft thread

    Great thanks Garbo
  23. Hi, I have purchased second hand an SC 70 four stroke, It runs well but I only have the main locknut for the drive shaft. Does anyone know the shaft thread size so I can source a second nut ? I have seen the replacement piece on the just engines site but its £10 ! for two nuts!
