  1. Thank you all for your suggestions. The issue is I am running OpenTx 2.0.7 on my Taranis. OK, it looks like I will have to upgrade OpenTx. John A
  2. I have a couple of pre EU LBT X6R receivers but my Taranis Plus is running EU LBT firmware on the XJT module. I have made up a set of cables to flash the receiver from the transmitter. The correct firmware has been copied over onto the firmwares folder on the memory card. When I go into boot mode and select the receiver firmware the only option given to me is Delete. Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong. Also with the receiver attached I do not get power on the receiver.
  3. I have just bought a second hand Taranis Plus. The firmware is currently 2.0.9. My question is should I upgrade the firmware first before I go any further and if so what to install? Do I go to 2.1 or 2.2? If I go to 2.2 do I have to install 2.1 first? Any advice would be much appreciated. Also any traps I need to be wary of? Many thanks John A
  4. Thank you for all those useful comments and Vaughn for the crimping tool link. I should have said that I have already bought the bits from Airtek and understand what you mean by needing a magnifying glass!! The one thing that puzzled me was after the pins are attached how are they retained in the plug?
  5. I am thinking about having a go at making my own servo leads. As I need some quite long leads for a large scale glider I am building I thought it a good idea to try my own rather than join leads together. As there are no threads on this topic has anyone else tried this and are there any hints and tips?
  6. Thank you for the info Stuart. I remember your comments on the ribs from earlier in the build thread. I dare say its 6 of one verus half a dozen of the oher. Either way its lots of bits of ribs or lots of bits of spar! Just for the hell of it I will follow your advice and let you know how that goes. I am always very fussy about snakes so will be sure to follow your advice there
  7. Hello Stuart. I have followed your build thread and loved every installment. So much so that I have bought a copy of the plans for my next winter build project. What I would like to know is if you were to start again would you make any changes to your original build.
  8. I too have maidened my Phoenix Xmas present from my wife!! This was the ready to fly option. I was very happy with the way it all went together but found one servo not working. This was replaced with a spare Genning micro servo. I had to wait until this weekend before first flight. Performance left me with a big grin for the rest of the day. A superb purchase for not much money. My only issue was on one landing I clipped a wing tip. It does land quite fast without flaps as previosly mentioned. It looks like I did not tighten the wing securing bolts tight enough and one wing pulled away a bit from one corner. This has needed a simple repair of wrapping the wing join with reinforcing tape. I suspect this would be a weakness in the design anyway and will be much stronger for future rough landings.
  9. Thank you Mike for the information. As luck would have it I have only just stated to build my Apollo. The info on C of G and nose weight are very helpful. What motor and prop are you using? Please keep us informed with how you get on with trimming and flying John A
  10. I was going to order a 3S Lipo today from HK UK. I was supprised to find 39 products on their web site with 33 currently out of stock!! Clearly they have a problem.
  11. Hello Andy I live in Knighton and I am a member of Long Mynd. The flying in a westerly breeze is supreme. However I was looking at other possibilities for winds from the east. Easterly winds at Long Mynd mean a long walk! This has been brought home to me over the last few weeks because of the amount of easterly winds we have had recently. I wondered if Clee hill was an option in an easterly. Maybe you know of alternatives in the area? Thank you for your response John A
  12. I am looking into possibly slope soaring from Clee hill as this is not far from my home. Are their specific areas for flying from? Is the flying controled by a club? Anything else I might need to know about? Any help would be much appreciated. John A
  13. Hello Mark I could suggest you covert to silent flight and then you have Long Mynd quite close!! John A
  14. For me the answere is definitly not enough. I have put together a SAS Wildthing and after a month have still not tried it. As I am a novice I am waiting for exactly the right conditions. As my local big hill (Long Mynd) has a westerly face all I have had over the last few weeks are easterly winds!! My patience is rapidly running out.
