Allegedly a DJI Phantom has been flown to 11,000 ft so 4,900 ft is now feasible . Story here.

Could you not try it out by holding the transmitter upside down, which would also be easier if you use a tray.

I have similar problems and use a folding stool like this . I find that chair arms get in the way and if you ever make a mistake and get the plane behind you ( don't ask ) you can easily swivel around to keep an eye on it ,something impossible in a chair. I maybe should add that I fly from tarmac which provides a firm base which may not be available on grass.

My prize turned up today and its a Cap 20 wood kit, just what I wanted. !! But I suppose I'll have to be disciplined and go and bake my Christmas Cake before I open it - I'm running a little late this year !
Merry Christmas to you all, and to those who didn't win, keep trying, this is the only thing I got out of years of clicking.

Well, somebody with my name won on the 12th but, like most of you, I don't have a clue what it is !
Still, what a lovely surprise
Thank you very, very much !!

Outerzone has a lot of free plans which can be extensively sorted. This is the r/c and free flight list of plans in the 35" to 40" range. Hopefully there will be one you just can't resist.
If you see something you like, why not post again with your selection and see if anyone has built it or knows more about it?

By the way Ken the reason for clean underwear was because, in pre antibiotic days,if you were involved in an accident the chances of infection were less - when first world war ships were cleared for action standing orders were that the sailors change into clean underwear.
