  1. I am in the Highlands and normally get second class service. Mine arrived on the 18th.
  2. Hmm, that sounds as if she is trying to tell you something. Did you rmember to buy coal?
  3. Youngsters! On the Isle of Bute there is an incredible 90+ year chap still building full size Aircraft. He recently repaired a Kingfisher seaplane which got damaged in a storm. It had its tail destroyed when a hanger door fell on it at Cumbernauld Airfield. I hope I can be near this active at 70, on models.
  4. Fiat Doblo ELX,  Pulls my caravan fairly well, takes three or four models +. Not good on the soft stuff though. Gives good milage even while towing.
  5. The WOODVALE RALLY has not been cancelled ! The Forum site RCMF has had a thread on this subject. Basically It has become too expensive meeting all the costs to do the Camping and Caravaning. Yes there are Campsites around there, however a weekend using them and paying for Woodvale becomes much more expensive, as well as more hassle. I doubt that the availlable campsites could accomodate anything like the number of outfits which attended Woodvale.  I also know that many who made a weekend of will not be there, including myself and my extended family. I am sad about this, yet I wish the event well as it has been a great event and fundraiser.
  6. Some nice responses now I hope you all had a nice Xmas.
  7. I am not really a leccy flier. I have had a fair practical experience of various types of battery including LiPo. I have never found any which did not have a reduced performance in near, or below freezing temperature. In very cold weather one trick I find very helpfull is to give a boost charge shortly before use, this can be done whether following Timbo's advice re 90% charge or not. In field conditions in another venture we had to ensure our Lead Acid car/Leisure batteries were kept warm as the voltage drop was not acceptable by our equipment.  A well insulated box with some form of heat (water bottle?) in it helps, another possibility is the reversible cool/warm "12v" box things so popular for the summer picnics, don't flatten the car battery with long use tho'. More,,, make up a box using the thick insulating foam popular for making wings 'n things. Make it with slots to take your packs and put'em in while nicely warm before leaving the house.
  8. Fort William. Saturday night forecast for today, Windy and windier. So, not optimistic. Sunday morning (today) almost calm, frost making itself felt. Went to the Sunday field and found it White with frost, nearly no wind all day. A terific day indeed, b....y cold though. Flew the Travelair which I had gotten passed to me in rekitted form. It flew quite well.   One of the lads maidened his Spitfire after sorting a few radio program snags, nice four stroke in it, and after a little trimming it really looked and sounded good. It was reluctant to slow down for landing, but he made it after it went dead stick. Rock hard mole heap at the edge of the runway modded his retract. I am sure it will soon be sorted, he is a happy bunny.
  9. Given enough power and a head wind along the length I think there is enough. The head wind will give a "chop" on the surface of the water and greatly helps the plane unstick. On calm water, planes can be a bit reluctant to lift and then it could be pretty marginal. The Cardinal along with many if not most others, benefits from an engine in the upper power range when used with floats. Landing now, is shorter on water after touch down, although on as short a stretch as this the ability to touch near the "begining" of the landing zone will be very useful. Approach Splash-down slowly as the kangaroo hop can go a long way.  Let us know how you get on please.
  10. Last weekend I did not fly in the "North West"   My North West weather was rather different from the other North West.   Mine is in SCOTLAND. A different part of the UK,,,,, for now maybe.  Looks to be too windy for comfort here in My North West to be flying tommorow too.
  11. Now perhaps would be a good time to think about getting a new club "Off the Ground". You would not be the first to do so. Almost guaranteed that each club member has a vote as to what the club rules are and I doubt that the members would agree to leave to suit outsiders.  A sad situation you are in though.
  12. Cyano' fume is an irritant, some people are more sensitive to the effects. The advice is to only use it in a well ventilated area and not to breath the fume. A fan can help a lot, just don't let it blow the balsa away
  13. Any of the main advertising model shops will have the Cyano remover as will a lot of the local model shops. As said in other posts, clearing/keeping the spout upright and well away from anywhere you dont want glued is best. The Cyano remove/r is not just a quick wipe and it's clean, process though. Got to work at it. Enjoy
  14. Real modelers design womens' underwear, of course some prefer to design male togs. Model fliers always do what the stewardess tells them to.
  15. Is there not a legal DO NOT about piloting models using this type of thing? Classed as guided missiles or something. In another discussion as long as twas on a buddy lead seems ok.  Some guys I know tried it, comments were "hillarious" guys just about falling over as the horizon on screen changed angle.
  16. Reluctant model engines in the cold are not uncommon as our methanol fuel does not then mix well with the intake of air. I am now using 10% nitro and find this helps quite bit. I was using 5% nitro in the warmer "summer". Strangely enough, hot weather with highish humidity used to cause icing in the carb of cars. A right B... when trying to get off a ferry
  17. Hello again, I have posted a picture in the Albums, relevant to Rob's location, under the heading, Summer-sometimes.  Keep clear of the grasscutter on the front of your plane now  or behind it if thats what you get. Leccy, basic, not high performance, gliders are good for learning with, though if you go into the rough stuff a foamy variety could be your best bet.  Keep well clear of the Airfield as you dont want to have problems there. I hope you get some calmish days to play in. I know what the wind can be like there,  See you, Bob
  18. Made a Whoops Sorry. Dumbarton model fliers are probably your nearest club, they are the club I meant to point to. Still not close to you though. I do think that your best bet is to contact Bryan. I would be a bit surprised if you did not get some advise and perhaps more direct help may happen.
  19. That's where Bryan Passy lives Robert. if your interest stays firm shall we see you at the Fly-in in May? Again Bryan is the chap (or one of) for that event  I tnink the nearest club to you ( and it is not close ) is Clyde Valley Fliers. There is another model flyer who's house overlooks Machrihanish, again Bryan Passey could help perhaps. I believe he fly's local, mostly on his own as not a great interest there yet. Have a look at the SAA website, one or two posts has his tel: num, he is a very friendly chap.
  20. Well now, if y'all old fashioned and y'got the promise > love, honour and obey < then " take a long walk on a short pier " dear, springs to mind. Nah, too drastic, was'nt a whole model. Just get her a bunch of flowers to make up for your language
  21. No need now for answer to above. I did a search using only > greenairdesigns < that did highlight the address as given, and it worked. Thanks
  22. In Nigel Hawes' Christmas Ampere article, mention is made of "Greenairdesigns.com". I am unable to connect, the feedback is " Webpage not found " So, is the e-address correct?
  23. The front cover of the December issue really does "reflect" the content of the magazine. The magazine and it's content reflects forward thinking and the future, not merely reminding people of the history of model aircraft. Pssst, David. Do I get my nice boxed revue model before or after Xmas?
