  1. Well so far so good. I live on the north coast of Cornwall and today has been a bit blowy but not severe. At the min its raining but not heavy and the wind has calmed. Could certainly be the calm before the storm.....
  2. I've also got the slec 4oz tank to squeeze in so will follow your wing mod tip Kevin. Steve, regarding the undercarriage I had seen the carbon copy item but after reading the original article I thought about making my own from carbon cloth using this and epoxy.
  3. Well I was going to go the electric route with my build but just got my hands on a sc 12 from the father in law. Just need the plan and wood and the mini servos then I can crack on. Has anybody made a wood list yet or have one to hand that could be posted for us jazz boys?
  4. Hoping to build this to and been looking at power systems all morning. Will be my first electric model so still scratching my head round the power set up. Plans not ordered yet but will be soon
  5. 1-barnstormer 2-avicraft frantic 3-evolution fusion 4-dawn flyer 5-jester
  6. Ian, I left the cowl off for now but it wasn't much offset so will just put up with it. I'd build it with zero as different engines will have different settings, yours might be ok at zero. As you say 'suck it and see'
  7. Ianr, yes I meant engine mount side and down. Built the model with zero offset as per plan but add the thrust after its maiden when she pulled to the left in vertical and the down was added to reduce climb under throttle. I added 2 washers for each and it helped out nicely. Trim wise she needed a little bit of right aileron for straight and lvl. Inverted needed just a breath of down ele so c of g was close from the book.
  8. Any update on the wottie Andy. Have you flown the maiden yet? Mangaged to get my build completed a few weeks ago and it had its maiden today. Needed a tiny bit off right thrust and a bit of down but flew lovely. After 3 flights today it went on to win our club novice aerobatic comp . Looking forward to many more happy flights with the model.
  9. I'm liking #2 more and agree with Bob. Just looks more interesting to look at
  10. I went for the not flown for a while option but did find that i was more nervous with my great planes sportster than i am with my yak 54. Having flown the yak more and more now i'm finding the nervouness has dropped and the confidence is growing. Yet to maiden my wot4 but i guess the nerves will be there when the time comes, it may be the confidence takes over once the maiden is in progress.
  11. Hi John, i would look at swapping the lipo out for a life battery instead with a nominal voltage of 6.6v you may find one to fit under the tank, and wouldn't needed to be regulated so long as your servos can take the 6v. Can also be charged in situ where as the lipo would be safer charging out of the airframe. Karl
  12. Very nice model Pete, just needs that something extra i think. Better start saving up for that IL300
  13. Keep up the good work Andy because i'm using your blog to help with my MK 3 build i've just started on. So far iv'e glued up the fuz doublers, i'll be doing my wing with the 33% larger aileron and possibly the weight reduction option.
  14. Took my 'A' test January 5th this year with my seagull swift. Not thought about my 'B' yet
  15. It may well have been just a bit of turbulence catching it out. The stall test was done in its maiden flight at hieght and it seemed to go with out a mush, it dropped its starboard wing and just headed straight down. Lateral balance was checked before its maiden and needed 10g on the port wing. Still a good flying model though
  16. When i finished building mine i ran all the measurements through a Cof G calculator and it gave the Cof G position at 120mm from leading edge at the root chord. With a moki 135 up front i had to place the battery pack just forward off the pull pull wire guides on a tray i built in. The all up weight came in at 81/2lbs less fuel and inverted flight needs a small amount of down elevator. Flies well at this setting but the stall is something to be aware of. When it goes, it goes, so be cautious on the landing. My last landing was a close call when it suddenly went from straight and level to knife edge about 5 feet from touching down. A colleague in the pilot box with me thought for sure i had lost a wing at least but it made a safe touchdown and came home in one piece
  17. trying to join Ian but says password is incorrect
  18. Hi Daniel, i'm the same as Steve as in not much help with the engine problems but i've not long had the seagull yak myself with a moki 135 fitted. Only had a hand full off flights with it but absolutely love it. Flew it saturday after crashing my sportster but wasn't daunted a bit while on the sticks. Did have a few teething probs with the moki but replaced the bearings and it now runs like a dream with plenty of power on the vertical bits
  19. I've made a start on the repairs and with a bit of luck it will be fit for this weekend. Firewall all back in place, just need to refit the engine cowl forward from the firewall then rebuild the wing mount and lower fairing. Engine stripped down and cleaning in progress. Hope you've made a start on your sukhoi Flight1, that was not a good afternoon for the both off us
  20. I agree with you Paul, recently built the seagull yak which came with good metal clevesis apart from 2 for the stab support rods which were so bad they wouldn't close, replaced theses with good quality ones. Didn't occur to me at the time to replace the sportster clevises, lesson learnt though
  21. Well it finnaly happened this weekend after nearly a year off flying. Crashed my newly recovered Great Planes Super Sportser saturday while trying to practice bunts. First flight of the day was fine and even managed a decent landing with the model. Over lunch, we decided it wasa time to start learning maneuvers for the clubman routine so decided to try the bunt. Took of and climbed to a safe height then rolled to inverted and pulled some inside loops to warm up. Staying inverted i went for the outside roll still at a decent height. First one was untidy as i wasn't quiet level as i fed in down elevator but it went round. Went around in a circuit and lined up for the second attempt and as before rolled to inverted and fed in down elevator and over she went in the loop, better than the first. Round again for a third try. Rolled to inverted as before, fed in a bit of down to hold level. Fed in more throttle and started to feed in more down but the model didn't respond and instead dropped the nose and headed for terra firma. More throttle and more elevator and still nothing, to late to roll out and pull back and watched her hit the deck inverted at about 60 degrees dive. Came to the conclusion the nylon clevis on the elevator gave up as when we retreived the model the push rod and elevator horn were not connected but the retainer was still in place on the clevise. Damage done was not to bad. Firewall detached and wing mount broke. Engine still in one bit just needs a clean up. It looks worse than it is as it's all clean breaks. Will be back in the air soon but with metal clevises replaced on control surfaces
