  1. well i contacted the vendor and he said he is sending me a new motor, i asked if he wanted the old motor back and he said no......he was very apologetic and told me they have less than 1% of motors that have trouble.....thats 1 in every 100 !!! Sure i think i must have got a friday afternoon motor and yes i agree i was a bit hasty to diss scorpion motors, i was just so frustrated that it originally only lasted 8 flights, and the fact it took from 15th of november 2013 to the first week of may 2014 for the motor to come back only to last a few mins. NO i didnt run the motor red hot the specs for the motor state it can produce a constant 2000 watts @ 100 amps. Some people have said the motor shouldnt be run at these numbers, but only around the 80 amp martk, but if it says it on the tin, it should do it.....i ran it at 89 amps which is 10 or so amps under it capabilities, and its not as if i had the motor flat out all the time, im not that stupid. Ive got over 20 models with mainly turnigy motors and never had a problem. The Axi motor is pure quality and it makes my sea fury sound fantastic. Well i will give this new motor (when it turns up) another go, or i may just sell it, but i need a motor for my 74inch extra. I must admit the 2 mins 35 seconds the motor ran for, i was impressed with its performance....when i bought my Axi motor i did ask about having to oil motor bearings, he said "why do you need to lubricate sealed bearings?" there is no need to oil Axi bearings. I have a Fliton Extra 330s with a Axi motor in it and i have thrashed that something terrible and the motor has never been a problem (yes its running within its limits) watch this space. Kev
  2. Just got my Scorpion motor back from climb out ltd after it chewed a bearing up after 8 flights!!!! Had it in the front of my blackhorse sea fury (converted to electric) this motor is suppose to give out 2000 watts @ 100amps. I ran it to 1800 @ 90 amps, so as far as im concerned with in its tolerances. Its not as if i was using it wide open throttle all the time, if i did, my 5000 6s battery would have only lasted 3 or so mins. It took nearly 7 months for it to be repaired, in the mean time i bought an Axi gold line motor to replace it (awesome motor) which now flies my sea fury. Any way the motor turned up and i fitted it to a 74inch extra that i had knocking about and propped it to 1800 watts as before. 2 mins and 35 seconds it lasted!!!!! Motor stopped dead, i managed to dead stick land it without any drama, the motor was hard to turn over and grinding like mad. I took the motor apart and nearly all the magnets had come loose.....so whats the excuse scorpion ???? Lesson learnt, dont buy scorpion, £110 motor trashed...... buy Axi   Kev Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 18/05/2014 13:43:30
  3. yea i suppose i could knock something up, its typical isnt it, they sell you the models but never have any back up...ive even emailed Blackhorse in Vietnam !!!! ill be lucky if i get a responce....i also emailed Ripmax asking about parts, as its still a current model....fingers crossed. Kev
  4. does anyone know where or who can supply Blackhorse spares......ive broken my wheel covers on my Blackhorse Sea Fury 22cc.... cheers Kev
  5. thanks for all the advice, im going to get the pilots first, a friend of mine painted a pilot for my ripmax mustang and its brilliant. Ive seen some of the scale pilots that some people have done, but personally i dont think any of them come close to what she can do with a paint brush. Once i get the pilots sorted, i will photo graph them and post. yea the camo markings are printed on, it looks good but a bit to shinny. Someone said leave it out doors!!! lol the natural weather will dull it (under a cover of course) I watched 633 Squadron saturday nite, and flew the mossie sunday afternoon.....talk about hairs on the back of my neck standing up......i only get 6-7 mins flying time per battery, i wish it would fly for hours!!!! thanks guys Kev
  6. Hello everyone, after 20 successful flights of my beloved Mosquito, id now like to replace the two chinese pilots that come with the Blackhorse Mossie. Both are out of scale and look like twins.....so if anyone could suggest the scale i need. I also want to know if its possible to dull down the oracovering thats on the plane, its a bit to shinny for my liking and i would like a matt finish......i would really like to add some scale finishes to it now i have it flying excellent. any suggestions would be appreciated Kev
  7. ive had a motor `twiching` and starting up backwards!!!! turned out to be a dud ESC....fitted another and no problems since.
  8. I fitted one to my modified blackhorse sea fury 22cc (now electric powered) yea the motors give incredible power, im getting 1980w @ 93 amps, on 6s battery, trouble is, ive only flown it 8 times and the motors gone bad! front bearing is grinding and some sort of ceramic putty (balances the motor so ive been told) has come out from between the magnets and chewed up around the stator......ive sent it back, bougth a axi motor now, so shoundnt be any more problems.   thing is, i have smaller models all fitted with Turnigy motors, and my little spitfire has flown at least 400 times without a problems and without having to `oil` the bearings as recommended by Scorpion. Go figure that!   Kev Edited By Kev Greenwood on 10/12/2013 08:16:12
  9. I just look in disbelief, then burst out laughing.......its just my way.....
  10. i found a Biela 3 blade 18x10 prop, will go over amps a bit but i can throttle it back with the tranny.......its a scale carbon prop im going to fit a Axi 3525\16 goldline motor, should give me just over 1700 watts of power @85 from a 6s battery.....lets hope it lasts longer than the scorpion motor!!!!!   I think i found out what could be part of the killing of the front bearing in the scorpion motor, the nut that holds the prop on was out of round. The hole was offset by miles....i dont know how i missed it, but this threw my alloy spinner out quite a bit (i just thought it was a cheap hobbyking spinner) but after i put a decent nut on, the spinner adapter nut did wobble at all. Unless I was unlucky and bought a friday afternoon motor!!!!!   Kev Edited By Kev Greenwood on 09/12/2013 16:43:33
  11. Im looking for a 17x12x3 blade prop to fit on my Axi 5325-16 motor to power my Blackhorse Sea Fury. I was running it with a Scorpion motor but after 8 flights, i think the motor wanted to destroy itself!!! Can some one recommend somewhere in the UK where i can get some 3 blade props from, I have looked on the net, but cant find what im looking for. Kev
  12. I have fitted an electric motor to my Blackhorse Seafury 22cc but im only getting 5-6 mins fly time. Im looking for a 4 stroke motor with a very quiet silencer. I think i will need at least a 26-30 cc motor but would like a 4 stroke petrol motor not a 4 stroke glow motor. can anyone suggest a motor/very quiet exhaust set up....???? thanks Kev
  13. can anyone suggest a set of good retract for my Blackhorse Sea Fury, its the smaller of the two models, 1600 wing span 20-22 cc motor. the stock retracts seem a bit weak as our field is a bit rough, they are ok but i would like some decent ones..... can anyone help? thanks Kev
  14. Na I have some very strong 6mm piano wire I've made some pegs out of, lets hope that holds up, it's strong but brittle so instead of bending it would probably snap but it should take some punishment. I will find out in about 2 hours time when I fly her again. Gonna take my camera this time and try and get some shots. Kev
  15. She flew fantastic just a couple of down elevator clicks and level flight. Within 2 mins I was looping and barrel rolling her, I'm amazed how well the plane handled. Plenty of power as well, flying round on half throttle, I did a few dives past the guys I fly with and the motor/prop combo sounds fabulous . I think I could take a bit of weight out of the front, as it needs to come in quite quick. First landing bent UC on one side but bent back very easily. I put 4 batteries through her, got 7 mins flying on each but UC bent every time. It's me landing to hard or the stock UC is crap. Does/can anyone suggest a decent set of landing gear for the sea fury? Well pleased with the plane, I just wish the batts would last an hour each!!! kev
