  1. Thanks guys, I have another problem - gluing canopies to balsa - another post. Mike.
  2. Thanks Bob, yep that works!!
  3. Hi I have used the 4 magnet approach hatch fits nicely and is firm (too firm!!) and does not move about. It is difficult to open any ideas? thought about letting in an M3 nut on the CL and using a screw as a grab. there is no dowel at the moment - do I need a locating dowel? Mike.
  4. Thanks guys, Hope I have not started another 'war of the roses' Mike.
  5. Thanks Phil, never thought of that!! With 4 pole to pole magnets will the pull be 'too strong' the nose hatch is 70 x 60 12 to 15 mm thick medium balsa. - separation. Mike.
  6. Hi, I am making a small hatch. In the fuselage body I have let in 4, 5mm magnets. In the hatch itself I can use two thin strips of metal or 4 countersunk head screws to engage the magnets, using screws (head flush with the balsa) is going to be easier to adopt but the metal strip will connect with both magnets on each side. Which is the better idea.? Mike.
  7. Hi Phil, Yes I heard you had a new 'play thing' for Christmas!! Have you thought about making up a wing joining kit for the project now you have the kit to make? I am sure all of us would be interested in purchasing such from you. I think you are using phenolic tube in the wing panel - where did you get this from? or could it form part of the 'kit' Once the wing panels are 'plugged in' so-to-speak how do you propose to prevent them coming apart during flight? Regards, Mike.
  8. Hi Phil, I thought I would wait until you finish before I make a start!! Seems a complex build? but your build blog will help a lot. Question - your wood list, does it need modifying in light of your experience so far? Your progress seems pretty impressive so far. Mike.
  9. I've never heard of a 'Japanese type of pull saw' please enlighten. Mike.
  10. Phil - I've learnt something today - Kerf the width of the cut. Mike.
  11. Hi Phil, Tucano canopy: Had three attempts!! the first using Deluxe materials 'Glue and glaze' Totally useless. The next glue 'RC modellers craft glue' Better but bond only lasted about a month ( canopy assy stored in a unheated room) The canopy need to be pulled in about 1/8" I do roughen the inside of the canopy material (pt something). The next thing I will try is a silicone bond. unless the experts on here know of something better.   Mike. Edited By Mike Hardy on 15/01/2014 18:10:59
  12. Does it matter if the fence is not quite parallel with the blade - you just get a slightly wider cut. Mike
  13. Thanks Nigel and kc, The Axminster looks good, have looked at the Clarke. I need something that is light as it needs to be moved when not in use. I have realised that the Barnstormer needs a scroll saw to produce all those formers from ply. Up to now my approach would be to use a fret saw, but for this application it would take too long. So I guess I am in the market. Not started yet, waiting for you 'master builders' to sort out the bugs first - been watching Phil's blog and waiting for his 'split wing mod. Have not finished the Tucano - having props with the cockpit cover bond, ok for a couple of weeks then fails. Mike.
  14. Hi Nigel, what make of scroll saw have you bought? Mike.
  15. Hi Phil, Not started yet still to finish the Tucano!! - The canopy does not want to bond to the floor. However your wood list (13 - 11 - 2013) does not mention any grade of balsa and remembering my probs with the Tucano, can you give a guide please. Happy new year, Mike.
  16. Hi Phil, is this bill of materials still provisional? there is no 'grade' of balsa given? is it possible to include this info please. Remember the problems with the Tucano balsa wood packs!! Got my stuff from DB but not started yet. Ah just a thought - is your list for the 63"? Regards, Mike.
  17. Hi Phil, I am waiting with bated breath for your wood lists mods etc. I guess the 'two days' is up tomorrow! Hope your info will be relevant to the 63". (thank you in anticipation!!) Mike,
  18. Hi, My 63" arrived today, Next - to generate a wood list. I notice there are shapes to be cut from adhesive backed paper then stuck down. I take it you remove the paper once the shape has been cut from the balsa? Mike
  19. Has anybody come up with a wood list for the DB 63"? Mike.
  20. I have ordered a plan pack for the 63" Barnstormer from DB Sports and Leisure, (delivery 2 weeks) I hope someone on here who already has a plan can work out a 'wood list' and publish on here, so we can crack-on and order the wood. As a novice this info together with the grade of wood is highly important. Mike.
  21. Hi Phil, Just ordered the 63" barnstormer plan pack - 2 weeks delivery, Can anybody on here come up with a wood pack or list for the 63" Barnstormer (please). Hope to start when the Tucano is finished. Early days Phil I know!! but have you come up with any mods yet - Motor mounting etc. Mike.
  22. Kits, CNC parts, wood packs etc. is MHS going to do anything for the mass build contenders? as per the Tucano (2013 mass build project) Mike.
