  1. i wondered whether anyone else had a similar experience with these type of adapters, they seem to be made of a soft material.
  2. I am now. I was convinced the shaft must be bent until i tried a new adapter today.
  3. you dont need an indicator you can see it with your eyes! Rich
  4. I'm new to electric flight, and I have a Turnigy 5055B with what appeared to be a bent shaft following a bad crash landing. I put two new prop adapters on but still the spinner appeared to be off centre. So I bought a new motor and ordered a new shaft. Today the new motor arrived and I started stripping the old one out of the plane. I got down to the adapter and thought I would try the new one on the old motor. Screwed it on and tried it without the prop. It appeared to spin ok. Then I tried the prop on it and it seemed ok but slipped, so i tightened it and spun it up again. This time the tip of adapter seems to be off centre - whats going on? Is it the nipping up of the prop nut that puts a bend in the soft prop adapter? thats all i can think of? cheers Rich Edited By Dickster on 21/08/2012 19:16:22
  5. Having a cert doesn't make you a good flyer - you said it yourself!! Rich
  6. Absolutely, most clubs will have some "politics" but its horses for courses - perhaps I just dont like clubs! Rich
  7. Interesting that you feel that way CS (being the new generation), I would not have expected that. As a teenager I had a flying buddy so we shared everything rc, and those were great times. Unfortunately he's flying the real thing these days!! Rich
  8. I have been a member of two clubs, but I admit that they are probably all very different. It depends who's running them. Like any other type of club, some people run them like they own them. Both the clubs I joined did not allow flying without A cert, and no flying for anyone who was alone. I'm lucky, I have a friend who happens to be a farmer.... 9. of those saying no, how many belong to a club? i would think not many. Rich
  10. Hellcat, Ok with 2.4 the peg system has probably all but gone, however, how many planes are allowed up at the same time, six perhaps? And you have to fly the circuit in the same direction? If you get a good sunny afternoon and lots of club members turning up, you ain't gonna be flying the whole time. Rich   ps and how many of you club members are allowed to fly alone?   Edited By Dickster on 20/08/2012 09:55:32
  11. Of course, IF i were in a club and did the certs, I too would be chuffed to have them. But I want to be free to enjoy a hobby without all the rules and regs. Rich
  12. We can debate it all day but compared to most other activities rc flying is a minority hobby. How many other far more dangerous hobbies/sports are there out there taht require no formal training at all? I used to sail - you don't need any (club) certs for that, and watching some of those boats out there its a scary thought. How many lives has a jetski taken? Is there a cert scheme (there is in US)? There's no law even to have insurance... Live and let live.. Rich
  13. Posted by Greybeard on 20/08/2012 08:23:01: I feel the need for them is even higher for those that fly on public sites as the dangers of accidents there can be very much higher. I take offense to the suggestion that I would have to take a test. Whether I had a cert or not would not change my flying habits. And you would be discouraging people from trying the hobby. The risk free world we live in is already ridiculous enough as it is. 14. Posted by Mark Powell 2 on 20/08/2012 05:48:15: Rules in general. I note BEB's comment, but I think this applies to all hobbies including model planes. Hobbies are supposed to be fun. Not formal things where people have to be 'obeyed'. I trout fish on the world famous River Test. Has been called 'Clearer than gin and ten times the price'. Was valued ten years ago at £1500 a yard. Our syndicate, twelve members, has seven miles, but had it for 100 years so 'todays value' does not matter. We don't have any written rules whatsoever. If you don't know what they are without being told you shouldn't be there. We certainly don't have 'Certificates of competence'. I don't have any certs, mainly because I don't belong to a club so I don't need one . Its not that i want to fly alone, its that i just want to turn up and fly! If i'm not flying I go home! I don't have the time to stand around chatting all day wiating to get in the air. Too many restrcitions with a club. Rich
  15. and it will still be cheaper than the UK! Rich

  19. I wished I had bought a few of these **LINK** mine had a meeting with mother earth at high speed and the shaft appears to be slightly bent. i am tempted to try it anyway but i've put it in a 58" Glens Extra that i have yet to maiden! these motors (and spares) are as rare as hens teeth these days (what recession?) so does anyone have any ideas on an alternative? i do not want to pay £100!! cheers Rich
  20. On the subject of soldering irons - Dremel VersaTip (gas) - superb - love mine. Rich Edited By Dickster on 18/08/2012 21:21:06
  21. killed by greed, typical, ruined a great show. it was such a successful weekend. it was huge. and it had something for all modellers, not just flyers, and not just rc. what was horrible? the flying? i bought a 25% Glens Models Extra from the show (still in the box!) and I remember he used to sell out.. hey ho, thats progress for you and profit hungry venues. i hope they've suffered for it. i still pass the venue regularly as my mum lives close by. Rich   Edited By Dickster on 18/08/2012 21:14:47
