  1. Mine arrived this morning too. Looks great, haven't had a chance to read it as yet but having a quick glance looks like it is full of interesting content. RCM&E seems to be going from strength to strength. Well done to all involved.
  2. I have used their non-Ebay site for a set of plans in the last fortnight or so and they arrived pretty smartish
  3. Hi Martin, You were right, too much throttle!! On about half throttle I am getting 8 minutes with about 45% power left from the 3200 mah batteries and they are much cooler. Will try to throttle back a bit more next time. Flies nicely at slower speeds too. All a great learning curve for me. Cheers Bob
  4. Hi Martin, Thanks for that. I do have to admit to using too much throttle so I guess that is the reason. My flying is a bit on the erratic side at the moment and have just bought a sim to get lots more stick time and of course I can see what effect different throttle settings have. Will try what you suggest re low passes. Many thanks Bob
  5. Hi Martin, I'm using the same motor set up as you and this seems to eat up the battery power which becomes quite warm. Batteries are Dynamic 3200 4S with the 12 X 6 prop and last about 7 mins. One of my instructors seem to think the motor is over revving. Would it be better to use a 12 X 8? Cheers Bob
  6. All went well with the maiden. Flew nicely with only a little amount of trim needed. Saw the test pilot even did a loop! Managed to have a go too (more sedately).
  7. Hi Redex, Thanks for that. Tomorrow is looking good weatherwise so hopefully I can find someone to do the maiden.
  8. Finally I have got mine ready for it's maiden, (hopefully sometime this week by one of my instructors). Weighs in at 4.5lbs and is giving 560 watts with one of those new Dynamic 3200Mah 4s Lipo batteries, Emax 2820/07 motor and a BRC/Robotbirds Pro 60 ESC. Prop is 12" but can't remember the pitch. 9. Avtur, Great response. I am building/putting together the Pioneer to get me up and running and getting my 'A'. I have accumulated quite a number of plans/drawings and have a long list of models I want to build (some have been started already and sort of basic kits have been pre-fabricated including a couple of autogyros!!!). Have also been given a few bent aircraft, two of which have been repaired. So, hopefully for me the ARTF route will work and get me into more balsa bashing. The bug has really bitten! 10. Hi Gee, This link should be the thread to the E-Pioneer thread. **LINK** Like you, I am a beginner to RC flying and have made some abyssmal first attempts at flying models. The club I have joined has some good instructors that have managed to cope with everything I have thrown at them so far!!! Bearing in mind I have a PPL, flown gliders and weight shift microlights (completely opposite control imputs), which are much easier than RC. I have a couple of electric powered gliders that are supposedly easy to fly, (I bent one on my first attempts at solo plus use the club's Nova). I want to stay electric, cleaner, noise friendly etc and the Pionneer is similar to the Arising Star which is a good trainer/flyer as far as I can make out. Easy, peasy to put together and Martin's articles in the RCM&E magazine are really good. I followed them more than the instructions as these seemed to be for another model altogether!!! Cheers Bob
  11. Hi Gee, I have bought a Seagull E-Pioneer and followed the RCM&E articles avidly. Has all gone together well and judging by others comments should fly well too. I am away in France at the mo but hopefully should have it flying soon. There is a build blog on this forum, type in Pioneer and you should find it. Cheers Bob
  12. Hi Ray, Thanks for that. Have been using mine and all is working well. Just have to hone my flying skills now!!! Bob Edited By Bob Bertram on 03/07/2013 08:20:28
  13. Thanks BEB, I will have to be more patient! Will try again later or tomorrow Bob
  14. Hi Chris, I'm a subscriber but can't seem to find it as yet. Cheers Bob
  15. How long before we can read it on-line, I'm away for a few weeks?
  16. Great stuff, nice to see one of the classic British ultralights being modelled. One for the magazine perhaps?
  17. Have just bought a plan for the D17 that appeared in the June 2002 issue of Model Flyer. Does anyone out there have a copy of the build article I could have. Many thanks in anticipation. Bob
  18. Hi Eifon, Seems like they are so new that nobody has used them as yet! I was thinking of getting some too so it looks like we will have to be the guinea pigs! Cheers Bob
  19. Hi Martin, Many thanks for that, I found out today what the difference in watt output was between a 2S and a 3S battery with an electric glider I have, quite incredible! So will definitely be going the 4S route for the E-Pioneer. Cheers Bob
  20. Hi Folks, Many thanks Redex and Martin for the info, have read all of this thread twice so far. Lots of info there. I'm not that far off finished but still have to sort out/order the batteries. This is getting confusing with two Bobs (in old money) askiing questions!! Cheers Bob
  21. Hi Folks, Have just started an E-Pioneer and will be using the Emax 2820/07 with the Robotbirds Pro 60 ESC and 4S Lipos. Have been following Martin's series in RCME avidly and using them to build as my instructions are for the Innovator apart from the first and last page!! This gives the CoG as 5.5-6.5 cm but I see from the RCME articles that it should be 85 mm. I'm a newbie to all this by the way. Cheers Bob
  22. Anyone know what plan/kit that beautiful Stampe on page 80 was built from?
  23. Hi Crispin, Many thanks for that, I have been looking at the Orange RXs. All this stuff is a bit confusing for a newbie but I think I am getting there, Cheers Bob
  24. Hi Graham, Thanks for that, it makes a lot of sense and many thanks for the Maplins tip too, I have one about 20 minutes away from me. Cheers Bob
  25. Hi Folks, Having just started in R/C I bought myself a new DX6i which is DSMX, complete with an AR6210 Rx and satellite Rx. I have also acquired an older DX6i Tx which is DSM2, to use as a buddy box trainer with the new Tx as master. Anyone have an idea whether this set up will work ok. Cheers Bob
