  1. do we have a list of UK companies both for ARTF and more traditional kits? It might be nice to see a list of our UK companies to see just what they have to offer us from trainer right up to what ever is available.
  2. Hey whats wrong with that Timbo - some men play with full sized cars etc - I know of several that spend considerably more money on restoring an old car than I am ever likely to spend on planes :) As for the show I will wait till Ive seen it
  3. Hi Mark like you Ive recently returned to this wonderful hobby after a 30 year gap in my case. From your initial coment I was wondering if you were refering to the ARTF style of modern kits where they are practically built to start with? If so dont worry - ther are a wealth of kits out there which I think fit your requiremnts. Try the Chris Foss kits as mentioned elswhere on here. For me I chose a Flair cub which comes in 2 varieties with foam wings or with the good old rib style. Hope this helps Antony
  4. I have read several articles in the magazines relating to using soldering irons for soldering the undercarriage wires together etc. Most of them tell you to use a heavy duty iron. What I want to know is what sort of wattage should I be looking for? I know my 30watt is not suitable. Any suggestions/advice? Antony
  5. how about the Bolton Paul Defiant? I dont see that getting mentioned much
  6. the PZL p24 looks interesting that Michael has mentioned - a first look at it made me think of the lysander but I see it has a couple of variation on it including ones with a covered cockpit and one without.
  7. John - Im in the process of building it myself at the moment. What I have done is cut 1/2" strips of silk and used them as the hinges. Though I think Ive put a little to much play in them which I am hoping will correct itself when I add the control surfaces. All Ive done is glue the silke to one side of the rudder and thenpassed it inbetween the rudder and fin and glued it to the opposite side of the fin then repeated it in the opposite direction. Not sure if that helps you at all as an alternative. Antony
  8. it was Roy - take a look at Tom's second post here and you will see he has underlined the word "up" - it will take you to the link about it.
  9. yes thanks Dave. At least now I can get my head around some of those figures
  10. thanks Dave. Now all I need to do is convince the wife that I need to get them as a matter of priority (as well as getting the gear together for my ic trainer hehe)
  11. while on the thought of engines - does anyone know where I can find a size comparison chart for 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines? Being new to this I can understand the theory behind the advantages/disadvantes of both but I dont have a clue when knowing what size I should be looking at. Maybe one can be put up on this website? :)
  12. nice sentiment bladerunner. For me unfortunately as finance plays a big part in my decisions (Im a full time carer for my wife), I often cant afford to pay out for the best so a good review like this is very improtant to help me make informed decisions on something a little cheaper.
  13. So who won the competition? I thought it was going to be announced yesterday? I cant see anything about it on the webpage. Come on we would like to congratulate whoever it is :)
  14. Anyone know which version of the famous Piper Cub the Flair Cub is modeled after? I suspect its the supercub PA18. Any thoughts?
  15. Im having a go at building this too as it is about the easiest plan Ive seen (very important for a complete novice to building). Anyway Im thinking of puting in an electricc motor instead of the ic. Any help with suggesting the right sized motor etc would be appreciated as I know nothing about electric motors. Thanks anyway for a great easy plan.
  16. I get the feeling this is going to be an interesting future in building. Tony - is there any possibility of you doing a short article for the complete beginner to building in regards to equipment needed both the common stuff and the more useful items? Also a how to aid for cutting wood - inserting hinges etc as Ive had a go at it and find simple things like cutting at right angles to the wood difficult (just lack of experience probably). Anyway although Im a complete novice to this I enjoy reading the articles about your wonderful plans like the latest Lancaster (one day hopefully:) ) Do you know if anyone has ever produced a flying model of the Junkers G38? I know Revell produced a 144th scale plastic model but when I saw pictures of it the other day I was amazed that the wings were large enough for 3 people to sit in the root of them. As there were only ever 2 built I thought it might make an interesting model for the more experienced modeler (and me one day). Antony
  17. Hi all. Another newbee here to RC flying. Just waiting for the weather to improve so I can go to my local club's patch for the first time. Looking forward to it.
