  2. Hi Eric, Have you tried to make a boot disc directly from XP? If memory serves me right that should be possible. Antony
  3. Hi Roy, On this section you will find a thread called newbies. On there you will find there are a lot of us who are like yourself new to the hobby or returning after a long time (20+ years). No way will any club make you feel inferior or stupid. In fact quite the opposite they will welcome you and help you through to being able to fly solo successfully. Bob above has mentioned a buddy system. What this is is simply you have a transmitter linked to the transmitter the instructor has via a cable. While you are learning if you get into trouble with controling the plane the instructor will be able to take control and save your plane from most disasters (if not all). So go find your local club and have a chat with them. You will soon find a great bunch of new friends. Antony

Thanks Andrew - I think he already knows my wallet is empty as he has already drained it for the wedding - lol
  5. Ops sorry Laurence - I should have said the thread was called "newbies". Sorry about the mistake.

hey guys. Glad to see things are still moving forward. Welcome to the fun house Andrew - sounds like you are already hooked like the rest of us.#I dint get to go flying on what was supposed to be my free day :( My daughter got me to take her on a trip to a National Trust property where she is hoping to work later this year. Wedding plans are progressing fast now. I have to go buy my new suit today. Still the reception is all paid for and my son and his partner have now had a rehersal so no real hitches that I know of. The first of our guests arives on Sunday morning from the USA so that she can aclimatise herself before the wedding. But I shall be glad when its all over so I can get back to flying again :) Antony
  7. Hi Tom - Ive come across this problem before elsewhere - but Ive never yet found a solution to it. Personally I think it is to do with Win XP or even the IE browser but Im sure others will see it just fine. Antony
  8. Simon - just point your dad to this forum - he will get all the help he needs if you just buy him the kit. The knowledge that the good folk on here have will see him through just about anything he is likely to have a problem with. Antony

Hi Danny thanks for the support. The cub - like most other things at the moment has had to be shelved. We are about to reorganise our living space as we have several guests arriving in a few days to stay over for the wedding - all looking for somewhere to rest their heads. Still as you say it wont be long now and then we can hopefully get back to normal. Though if my instructor does happen to be free on the day I am not booked up next week - my plane is readily accesible :)
  10. Hi Tom - I just clicked on the image above to see a large version - yes it does open up but the window is a fixed size and wouldnt let me see the whole picture. Antony

Im missing flying :( Unfortunately these wedding preparations are taking a hugh amount of my time at the moment. We have a rehersal for it on Saturday so no flying again for me this weekend :( Maybe I will get lucky during the week and find my instructor is free on what appears to be my only free day next week :)
  12. Hi Simon, Im sure we can help you on here. First off a couple of questions that others will ask you - are you looking to buy a kit which has everything in it? or are you going to buy the transmitter and electricals seperate? I ask because it will alter what may be available to you. If you are after a kit with everything in it - you will not get as big a choice. but if funds would be available - from your dad after receiving the kit from you - then there are a lot more options open and we have some folk on here that will be able to sort you out with something approprite for his needs. Just to remind you though - you will be looking for a high wing trainer to start with - and Im sure you will get some recomendations shortly. Good hunting. Antony
  13. Laurence, You will find there are a lot of folk on this forum that are returning to the hobby after many years. Im one of them. when I was a kid I used to fly rubber band powered. I did attempt to fly gliders for a while but without a club my enthusiasm didnt last long. Now Im on to powered planes with a good instructor and Im loving every minute of it. If you get a chance check out the Begginers forum and in particular a thread called beginners as you will find a lot of us are supportying each other with our experiences. So come join us there. :) Antony
  14. Hi Laurence, welcome to the world of fun :) I use mode 2 simply because that is how my tx was set up when I bought it. Im left handed btw and I have found no real problems with it. I have to echo what David has already said - if your not already a member of a club then do join one. Ive only been doing this for a couple of months and am very much a beginner. As for how to use the rudder your instructor will advise you as to what is best, (ailerons are so much easier to start with). It shouldnt prove to difficult for you as the instructor will take in the limitations of your plane whne he teaches you so for now dont worry about how to use the rudder - just do as your instructor teaches. Good luck and keep us informed. antony
  15. David - If its going in the Summer special issue - cant you make it 60+ and still give the plans free? After all it is the first model that we as readers have been given an opportunity to vote on and that kind of makes it special to us all :)

Congrats on the wedding Spencer. My son gets married on 19th May so we are rather preoccupied with that at moment - so Im not getting any flying in at the moment :( As for me I celebrate my 26th aniversary in July this year - and yes Im still smiling :) Antony
  17. Note to the editors - when going through this list to make the final choice - dont forget to pick up the one or 2 threads that have been started in other areas (beginners is one that comes to mind) - some folk have put there choices there instead of here. Thank you Antony
  18. I must admit as I look at my Arising Star the covering is becoming more wrinkled the more it flies. Ive run the iron over a few spots already.

Oh I meant to mention - that time problem - I know what you mean. We are in the middle of preparations for my son's wedding in a month's time. So time for building has already disappeared and time for flying is getting harder to fly as I found out yesterday - I had to cancel my flying arrangements :(

Hi Clarky - I thought you had deserted us :) Good job on your first flight - your quite right there is no feeling quite like it. As for your baby - if she/he is anything like my granddaughter Id say just after a year old. Megan is already playing with the tx attached to my pc using the simulator. Ok she just pushes the sticks up and down but she has managed to get it off the ground unaided - but then immeadiately shuts down the throttle and crashes - hehe.
  21. Sounds good Peter - may be very helpful to us all. Particularly if another mag has rated it highly when in fact its not. It would also help us if a mag would take the bull by the horns and actually publish names of kits which are not worth buying. Its ok only reviewing a model that is good but sometiomes when we are looking for a choice it would be nice to know the names of some to avoid - and why. Maybe the manufactureers while then put those faults right and submit them for a second review.
