  1. Hi Michael, I can see you had a similar problem to myself of not being able to get close enough to the STAMPE to get some decent piccys. I was at Duxdord the other day with camera in hand, one of the security chaps allowed me to go over the line, escorted, to take some detail shots of the STAMPE that I need to finish my model. Just as I stepped over the line some snotty women appeared and told me I cant go over that line and if I want to photograph the STAMPE I need permission from the owner. I told her it was a living museum and there is no restrictions on photo taking. She told me there was. Then she said the security at the airport was appalling and she was worried about her spitfire she parks there. Not the women who owns and flys the dual seat spot. I contacted the operations manager after being told by her. He was not a happy bunny with her attitude as she has no authority at Duxford. She pays rent to park a plane there. There are no photographic restrictions in place. As a FOD I have now been given permission to cross the line to photograph the STAMPE, with an escort of course. Next week I will be going up again to get the pictures I want, I will post them up on here. Was there anything specific you wanted photographing Micheal?
  2. Pilots and builders Thank you very much Nick, Cymez and Martin. Much appreciated. This is a great thread, never felt the need to upload photos of my build as you guys always tick all the boys when it comes to sorting something out. Hopefully my stamp will be completed in the next few months, then I will post some pictures and hopefully vid of the her maiden. Duxford is just a few miles up the road from me, they have a full size Stampe there. Took some photos a while back. Link below. Should any one require any specific pictures I will happily upload them for you on my next visit to Duxford. Any excuse will do for a visit. http://www.modelflying.co.uk/albums/member_album.asp?a=28501
  3. Dear Stampe Builders, almost at the end of my Stampe build that I started a while ago, well over a year ago. Followed this thread from day one, I know there is so,etching about aileron throws in this thread somewhere, but cannot find them. Can someone please oblige me? Cheers
  4. Haven't made a contribution to this forum, but still very interesting for Stampe builders like myself. there is a Stampe at Duford not far from me in Cambridge. I have uploaded photos herehttp://www.modelflying.co.uk/albums/member_album.asp?a=28501
  5. Another thought. Most solder used these days is lead free, this leads to very hard and brittle solder joints that can in an IC plane break free.(feel a song coming on) . Try and use solder containing lead, it has an element of flexibility and is not prone to snapping off like solder free joints. That can be under stress in an IC plane.
  6. That's sad, can you not change your club? To one that will accommodate your model? Edited By Pegasus on 03/08/2014 21:33:39
  7. Those Stampes all you guys look a real picture and credit to you. This thread Cymaz has been very helpful. I am just over 1/2 way thru my build, I hope I don't get the same problems of overheating as some of you have had, I am using a DLE 35r as the power source, I am going to duct the air flow and use louvers to create a Venturi effect to help draw and evacuate the warmed air. my color scheme is very boring compared to you chaps artistry. My Stampe is based on the one at Duxford, mostly because we live not to far away and visit frequently. It's just a plain old blue. Would love to visit green acres and see your planes one day, and maybe fly up there with you all and my Stampe. cheers pilots.....blue sky's tony
  8. Martyn, putting a heat sink on the cylinder head will only increase the surface area, you will still need to have the correct airflow to take that heat away. I fly helis, I don't use heat sinks as there is enough open space and air around the engine to keep it cool, most fuel powered helis also have built in fans to direct airflow over and around the engine. You have to look at the physics of airflow to maximise it's potential as a cooling system. Volkswagen beetles used an air cooled engine, to make this system efficient the airflow was ducted around the heads very cleverly. using louvers to create a Venturi effect can be very helpful, as some of the chaps have got installed, if it comes in, it must be able to get out.
  9. That engine must of got remarkably hot to have generated enough heat to do that damage. It's a wonder the small end and main bearings didn't seize first. If that engine got that hot within the cowl, a glow engine will do just the same.
  10. http://www.iansboats.co.uk/accessories%202.htm sorry Cymaz, forgot to paste the address up. Here you go... tony
  11. Hi Cymaz great thread, have learnt loads, hope to have my Stamp finished for a summer maiden flights. Photos will follow on completion. you may like to look at these rubber mounts. I have use them on my power boats up to a 50cc spark ig engine running on a gearbox. Never had a problem, mounts are impervious to petrol. cheers Tony
  12. Hi Cymaz sorry to come off topic, can I ask where you put your fuel tank on the Stampe? And what size tank did you use? cheers Tony
  13. The litho I ordered was packaged well and clearly marked "Care-do not bend" it was so well packaged my postman must of had a pigs ear of a job bending it in half to put it thru the letter box. my letter box is wide enough and deep enough for the package, but, for some reason only known to him he felt the need to ignore the instruction on the package and fold the whole thing in half. Creasing all the contents. The damage sustained was In no way connected to the sender. From whom I will place a new order as soon as this matter is cleared up with the post office.
  14. Thanks for that advice Cymaz. eventually got thru on the phone to be told that if it said don't bend on the package then they are sure the postman didn't bend it. same old story.. have taken pictures and submitting a claim for them to replace items caused by damage. i wonder how far I will get with this to a satisfactory outcome. We will see....
  15. I have just received my first batch of litho plate. Why have I not been aware of this stuff before? on the envelope it was clearly marked, in a large font " CARE- DO NOT BEND" underlined. the stupid postman folded the package in half to get it in the letter box. There was no need to as the letter box was big enough. Big crease across 10 sheets of litho plate. Have you ever tried to get in touch with the post off deliveries on the phone? And when you do it's always the wrong department.
  16. John, I have been following this thread since it started. I am 2/3 rds of my the way thru my Stampe build. Just when I think I have done enough along come you guys with some great detailing. This causes a halt in construction to improve on what I have already done. Keep it going. This is such a great thread. Well done Cymaz for starting it. You have a lot to be responsible for. Now all we need is a Stampe fly in this summer somewhere. John, I have never used litho plate , what is it, where do you get it from. Love the detailing and the effect it creates. Can you oblige please? Tony Cambridge UK
  17. Hi Cymaz This thread and every one else that has contributed to it has made this thread a valuable thread to anyone building a Stampe. Not least me. It has guided me thru problems no end. I have just got my lower wing to build before completion of the build. I have started to cover the Stampe in solartex, already coloured, blue. It is semi transparent and I don't like it. I have invested a bit in the covering. Can you paint over the existing color to make it a bit more solid. And what paint would you use? I noticed a comment on the thread of two part automotive paint. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers   Tony Edited By Pegasus on 06/12/2013 12:35:08

  19. Hi Dylan yer, sorry about that. I had the same problem. Wandering round Duxford with my son, he commented" look dad it's that plane your building" Had me camera with me.. The rest is history. I have been following the thread with you all, will get some photos up and join the throng. tony
