I like PETG. Its my main choice for parts now. ABS warping kept popping up at the worst time. Nylon was good but problems w/that also. PETG flows nice! haven't had any jams since switching. You do have to change temps/retraction/etc. (I print slower and 240º w/more retraction). Found the #'s somewhere and plugged them in and that was it! The only place I may quit using it for is skids. The concrete Rwy I land on sands it down too quickly - will probably go back to nylon if I don't find a fix (trying to put some HDPE on it to prevent wear).

Solved my warping using a PEI sheet on the bed. Thanks fro the info re tempreatures.

Looking good Tom. I would recommend that you run an iron over that cross weave tape set at 120°C. This will make the tape adhere to the foam better and also give you a smoother surface to apply your covering tape/film to.

I rebuilt my Mk2 WT a year ago after I attempted a nose first vertical landing from about 100' lol. You can see the rebuild HERE.

Nice job Steve... I'll bear the covering in mind, have a feeling it won't be too long wink 2 .

Tom it's looking good, yellow is a good colour choice!

I took about 1" off each elevon tip. The thinking behind that was to protect the tips and hopefully reduce the tress on the servos if it landed on the wing tip. It's not affected the roll rate.

When landing the W.T., don't fly too far behind yourself, as I've found that....

    • You will struggle to fly it back
    • All the lift has gone
    • It starts to get blown back by the wind....and it's a long walk to find it.( I fly high above Perranporth beach and it's a real pain in the posterior to hunt for it in deep grass filled sand dunes)

yes Yep, If you don't go far enough back and over shoot the edge then you can stay in control and just go around and try again but once you are too far back you have no control at all.

Pleased you found my build useful Tom. Regarding ensuring the tapes stick, if you used the stuff recommended/supplied by SAS you shouldn't have any trouble provided it's not too cold where you are working. If it is a bit cool keep the the tape in the house - the adhesive becomes more tacky and bonds much better when it's warm. Same applies to adhesive backed velcro by the way, I nearly always warm it on the radiator in the house before applying..

  4. Hi Tom,

You may be interested in my SAS Fusion build (starting halfway down this page), I believe the only difference between the two is the shape of the fin.

It's still in flying condition, in fact I was out with it just a few days ago.

Edit: Actually looking at the fin in your photo, it looks the same as the Fusion.

If anyone is about to buy one of these, mine is going up for sale.

Nothing wrong with it (just bought it for a play), very low use, reel of black PLA included. All built & tested. Pick up only from Hereford, £100 no offers

Wish I needed it, that's an offer hard to refuse.

  6. I've been using an Access Database to keep all my data, inspired by an article in RCM&E by Andy Ellison quite some years ago now.

Includes a critical note field in red regarding fitness to fly etc.

You wouldn't need Access to do this these days, Apache OpenOffice database can be used, I started a version for wider circulation but didn't finish it as there seemed to be little interest.

Both are relational databases so they easily allow additional data to be added for each model.

I've got a Musketeer, though mine's electric. I think the answer to your problem is very simple, much easier than converting to a tail-dragger, move the CofG back very slightly so you can flare it out properly. Fitting larger wheels will help too. Just 5mm made all the difference for me.

    Have to agree thumbs up.

  8. Yep, one of the clubs I'm in that sheep problem applies to. Their little deposits are a horrible smelly mess and sometimes we get them making excursions onto the strip (we use an electricfence too but that doesn't stop some of them when we are using the strip). I'm not aware of the sheep ever consuming car parts.

    hi Ian

What I was wanting was to have the first post with all the guides on it and add to it as and when I completed them but it doesn't seem to work like that. When I realised I'd made a couple of simple mistakes and corrected them and resaved the file the link then goes dead. So you need to look for my last post about the guides, currently on the end of page 1, and all the guides are there. What I should have done is have a link to a folder on Google Drive and I could have done what I was wanting. Hope this helps

    Bob

Hi Bob, Sorry I missed this post and thank you, I'll have a look at page 1.
