  1. Can anyone explain the reason why it is possible to change both the servo position and the stick position when setting up a throttle curve ( other than to have an idle at closed stick for electric motors) ? I have read the bible by Douglas Holt and it shows how to change both but I cannot see what the difference is between telling the transmitter that at say 50% stick the servo is at 65% OR saying that stick position at halfway equates to 65% stick. the example in the book doesn't help much either. anyone help me out?
  2. perhaps they will do what most of us do, get a mortgage?
  3. Masher, I too am limited by ability, I have the wire undercarriage, so have lost one excuse for poor performance. It is very strong but watch the mounting plate, mine had almost no glue so it came loose as I tested the strength of the wire! Anyhow, I have the ic mounting set spare somewhere, send me a pm and if I can I will post it off to you as well as a copy of the assembly diagram if you need it. Rgds, Al.
  4. Hi all, those who have just got the ionos may find the following link of use. Especially re the wire vs cf undercarriage. http://rcone.kr/board/index.html?id=bjreference1&asort=hit&no=7
  5. Hi Eric, the PL6 will take 24 volts but remember that in the powerlab set up you need to specify the min cutoff current for the power supply.
  6. I think there may be a problem. I sent a message to a seller, via the send msg button, on the site. Heard nothing so sent a txt to his mobile. He replied saying that he had not received anything via the website. So possibly there is an issue.
  7. Geoff, I think the hobby king ionis ( or something like that) as mentioned by Peter in an earlier post is a rebadged monolog. That's probably why the original is not available, they sold the design maybe? So maybe that's a possible to for you to get airborne again?
  8. Hi Geoff, Have you recovered yet? Time to get started again. I lost two models within a week, both due to unexplained radio failure, I was gutted particularly as one was a real favorite. I think I was just about in tears when I did the long walk with the plastic bag. As they shared only one component, the transmitter I ditched it and bought a new one AND a new aerobatic model to practise with. It is worth it, dont' give up, I've just started practise to do the B this year and I was hoping to hear how you got on.
  9. I Amy be shot down, but why bother with the regulator? I just use a life 6.6v battery, just need to check that the servos can take it, I tend to use Futaba which are ok with the voltage., hi tec seem ok too. Then I just plug it into a normal switch.
  10. Thanks all, it is much asi suspected and your input has helped my to understand how it works and how best to treat the batteries..
  11. Frank, I am charging 5 4s packs via a charging board, so all the balance leads connect to the board which then connects to the charger. My question is, what effect this has on balancing the individual packs as I guess the charger sees only one large pack and therefore only 4 cells rather than the 20 that are there. So it must average out somehow, so I am assuming that every now and again I should charge each pack separately to balance the cells. This never seems to be discussed in all the things I have read about parallel charging. Al.
  12. could a knowledgeable person explain for me how parallel charging works as far as balancing cells goes? As all the leads are connected to the one balance port on the charger, does it average out the cell voltage? How does it measure the voltage on, let's say, cell 1 In each of the 4 or 5 packs I connect to the charge board? Does it matter? Should i balance each pack individually every now and again? Many thanks Al.
  13. alPosted by Phil Green on 11/03/2015 20:33:13: Posted by Willyuk on 11/03/2015 18:54:30: I either ditch the frsky, upgrade them (too difficult) Updating Frsky receiver firmware isnt difficult at all, its a piece of cake Hi Phil, I looked at the frsky website and found it difficult to workout how to connect the receiver to a pc, if I need special cables they probably cost more than a receiver and as I only gave a couple it's probably not worth the hassle. Mind you I am not upgrading the tx firmware yet either.
  14. Have I lost the plot here? I have a 14sg which works with both the Futaba r617fs fasst receivers and the frsky ones I use, it continues to work today. I know that if I upgrade to the latest firmware in the transmitter (v5) the frsky ones may no longer work but the r617fs will. SO, if I don't upgrade, no problem, if I do upgrade I either ditch the frsky, upgrade them (too difficult) or buy new ones which will work and are compliant. So where does the Fasst not supported come from? Yours, confused etc
  15. I like "screamy" nowt better than a decent 2 stroke preferably on a tuned pipe. and way better than electriv. I fly all of them and there is no "better" just different.
  16. Or just read the BMFA handbook where all is explained.
  17. It's not just hobbyking that cause our lms problems. As an example I wanted a new futaba 14sg, not a small purchase so I shopped around. I found that I could get one from Austria from swieghofer complete with lipo battery etc for £300 and that was at a much worse exchange rate than now. So I dutifully phoned a number of UK shops including my local one to see if they could get near that price, even with the UK spec nimh. Not one of them would consider even a small discount. So I saved over £80, it arrived withi. 3 days. It is as easy to send to Austria should I need to, as to post in the UK. I cannot believe that there is no profit margin in a new transmitter and surely eating into it would have been preferable to no sale?
  18. There is a nice friendly club at knebworth. Look for KMFC on Google or the BMF website. It's small but will always welcome beginners.
  19. I am new to electric and a question I have is why you use a smaller prop with a 4s as opposed to a 3s setup? A mystery to me. thanks
  20. I fly a OS55 powered aerobat with a tuned pipe and it is at least as quiet than many electric models and indeed quieter than many. I.C. does not need to be noisy, it depends on the silencer and the prop
  21. Hooray! Thanks Peter, all this discussion of vertical lines and timing of slow rolls was beginning to make me doubt I could EVER achieve a sufficient standard. I would like to be that good, but that needs practise and most of us have only so many hours we can devote to flying. I see the B test as a means to improve my accuracy, awareness and safety without it being a hurdle too high to hope for. I need to feel it is within my capabilities after a reasonable amount of dedicated practise. Now where is that weather window?
  22. Yet I have received multiple 5s lipos via parcel force from a well known supplier with no issue, just a sticker saying "contains Lithium batteries"
  23. Thanks Peter that helps a lot as I have had trouble with the flopping scenario.
  24. Ultymate, in general I agree but the problem with the wind is that, from the south, it has to come over the top of some tall trees that are close to and parallel with the landing strip. I am advised that the turbulence caused by said trees makes using the strip with a strong southerly wind is extremely inadvisable. I have always heeded this advice so have no direct experience of how bad it is at that particular site. I am not worried about cross wind landings ( well a bit worried but I try my best) but when really good pilots advise me to keep away with these conditions, I listen. Lets hope for a change of direction soon!
  25. Hi Peter, can you clarify a couple of points please. On the stall turn can I assume that it is NOT a requirement to completely close the throttle at any point? when I attended the training day, it was expected that the candidate would announce each manoeuvre and then say manoeuvre complete when finished. Also it sort of seemed that the examiner was "calling" the manoeuvres, i.e "next an outside loop" I would find it a help, and perhaps others would too, if when you have completed your technical explanations you could run through how a typical test might go. I know there is a lot in the guide but a view from a current examiner of how it unfolds and what might be said to the candidate during the test might allay some fears and reduce nerves. if only this damned wind would change direction I could do some practise! thanks
