  1. thanks for the help, added a coat of PVA and the results are spot on, another happy forum member
  2. as i have already done the filling, ill have to live with it, but the PVA is worth a try, thanks for that, does the film stick to it as soon as you iron, or will it shrink ok once the heat is up (its on a really visable part of the plane) michael
  3. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 10/04/2013 16:40:51: What filler are you using Michael.....? I've never heard of filler melting under a covering iron....I use the lightweight "polyfilla" type fillers & have never had this problem. Maybe you are keeping the iron on a touch too long.... Hi Steve, the filler is red devil, onetime, lightweight ready mixed, it seems to almost liquifiy as soon as heat is applied, even at low temps when tacking. very strange,
  4. i am covering a cap 21 and have had to use light weight filler in parts, when covering with oracover it melts the filler, is there anything i can use on top of the filler and still get a good smooth covering, wrinkle free and that wont go sticky when heated with the iron, any help would be great. thanks michael
  5. Posted by Brian Hammond on 28/03/2013 14:23:46: I had several Panics over the years and my favourite one had a Saito 80 F/S up front which I found much more responsive than a 2 stroke at that time. Where did that green and black covering come from? hi Brian ordered the oracover direct from the factory, **LINK** cant remember the postage cost but seem to remember it wasnt too bad. michael
  6. thanks for the info, i have a couple of planes with pitts on at the moment . and realise that the exit pipes are in front of the fire wall on a side mounted engine, on this latest build im prehaps being a little anal , but it really would finish this one off a treat if i could get an inverted engine firewall exit. im not good at metal fabrication, and dont want to end up with something thats way to loud and messy. to be honest it doesent have to be pitts, just need to get the exit in front of the firewall, not sure if there is anything else out there. i will call the guys at JE and see what they have.
  7. i am mounting a sc108 inverted, and am looking for a pitts exhaust that will exit at the rear of the engine and exit both pipes just in front of the fire wall, any ideas, if im not making any sence, let me know and i will try and draw something up. thanks for any help. michael
  8. Posted by Martin Harris on 27/03/2013 09:32:42: From the description it sounds like it's intended to have flaps as you would imagine from a 3 view of the full size - but I also found this photo which started me thinking (a fairly rare event!) about whether it used a similar system to my old ASW20 glider where the inboard section was used both as as aileron and landing flap in various flight conditions. As far as I can see from this flight manual (in French) there are no flaps at all and although the surfaces are split they are used purely as ailerons... P.S. Whether you're interested in this aircraft or not, the flight manual link leads to a wealth of information for scale builders about many aircraft - well worth a look and I've bookmarked it! Edited By Martin Harris on 27/03/2013 09:38:46 Thanks Martin, that really is a great bit of information, Thank goodness my PA is French, I think it might be eaiser to go with alierons only, i know they can be a handfull to land, and need nose down and hot to get on the ground. thanks again, Michael
  9. any help really appreciated on this one,
  10. Posted by Martin Harris on 24/03/2013 21:15:30: We had a little competition at our club recently for models built from a single sheet of balsa - my entry was a 1/4 scale model of my Panic, powered and "controlled" by the mechanics from an old Kyosho Edge 540. loving the mini panic, how did it fly in comparison.
  11. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 24/03/2013 17:45:01: I think you can still buy both Panic kits from Avicraft.....both showing as OOS at the moment but might be worth a call to see when they will next be available.... Hello Steve, the mini panic is still for sale at Avicraft, unfortunatly the full size has never quite got of the ground for the second time. i keep driving over there to check, and the prototype is still being worked on.
  12. Want to flog one of your spares GADMFC? I'm sure I've got a spare ST61 and shorty pipe in stock well the one in the pic is for sale, airframe only, but its not going cheap,i just spent a fortune on the covering or if you dont mind doing some work i have one that does need a fair amount of finishing, including covering the wings, fuse has been coated in epoxy and painted, new rudder, H&V stab and elevator have been covered. in my usual very loud colours.
  13. thats better Posted by Paul Marsh on 24/03/2013 08:29:27: Also can you use "insert image", instead of a link? so that people can see your photo without using a link. Also makes the thread more colourful... Edited By Paul Marsh on 24/03/2013 08:32:36

  15. Posted by Shaunie on 23/03/2013 13:38:59: East Grinstead this morning. First official steam train out of East Grinstead this morning on the Bluebell Railway. 'bout an inch of the white stuff! Hi Shaunie, im in felbridge, do you fly locally
  16. just wondered how many people are still flying panics, its been a while since they made them, i have 5 (one still in the box unopened) perfect when you need to let of a bit of steam, or have a bit of fun with the spot landings. as you can see, i like to keep the colours plain and blend in **LINK**
  17. picked  this one up a few months ago, anyone know anything about it? 72" span and 53" long, split alierons, where the alierons supposed to be seperate andt have seperate servos, or were they for flaps? at present they have a metal joiner. plan is to use a 108 two stroke. its in a bit of a mess at the moment, but she will fly again.....i hope, progress pics will follow.       Edited By gadmfc on 24/03/2013 08:18:58
  18. David was indeed a fantastic gentleman and had a huge knoweledge of our hobby, he was a freind of our club and we shall all miss the hours we spent in his shop listening to his modelling stories. our thoughts are with his family.
  19. A friendly BMFA affiliated club recently started, (jan this year) we fly all fixed wing, we are lucky enough to be able to fly ic, petrol and electric at any time with no restrictions off a grass runway, at present we have 10 founder members and aim to keep the numbers no more than 30 so you never have to wait too long on the flight line. we welcome young and beginner members who wish to get into the hobby. we fly everything from combat, scale, 3D or whatever else we can get in the air, or sometimes not get in the air. we will be organising events as the club grows, and have lots of space for camping and BBQ events. have a look at the site, or come for a visit. **LINK** Michael
