  1. What fuel tank do you use? The one with the kit is only 6oz, but will fit without any modification, I can get an 8oz in but will have to cut the former, fit the tank and refit/strengthen the former. 6oz doesn't seem big enough for a decent flight.
  2. Well the latest is, I picked up a brand new OS35AX for £63 so am looking more closely at converting from electric to IC. I'll get it off the wardrobe tonight when the wife's at work and look at what tank would fit. I'm sure I have some fuel proofer left in the garage!
  3. Mounted the servo for the rudder in the middle and the elevator on the right (fuselage upside down) and found the pushrod rubs on a former. Moving the servo over and the rudder linkages are very close. I went to epoxy the battery holder to find it's warped so will have to cut another one out. Also, you only get one mount for a battery, so I'll have to make a couple of spares. Well, the battery mount doesn't fit! The opening/former between the 'tank bay' and the servo area is like the original IC model and is sort of oval in shape, but when you align the battery mount, it see saws on the former. I'll have to cut it out for the mount to fit-not easy. The magnetic cover for the battery (pre covered and fits in the gap previously cut out) doesn't fit, the fuselage needs sanding. Also 3 of the magnets have come loose.
  4. I'm using the wings off my IC Acro Wot, so will comment on the build at a later date. The tailplane went on fine, but there was an issue with the elevator. I had the fuselage upside down and screwed the control horn (used after market Kavan horn) into the elevator with the dark ply/hardwood semi-circular insert in it. I then fed the linkage through the fuselage and found I'd put the horn on the wrong side-the correct side didn't have the insert. Bit of a manufacturing error? Next the tail fin-the rear of the fuselage has a slot where it locates and this was wider on one side than on the other, poor quality-however, the fin fitted in nicely, but unfortunately the slot wasn't at 90 degrees to the tailplane and took some fiddling to get it right. The nuts on the rudder looked imperial-well they never fitted any of my metric spanners!
  5. To start, the covering isn't as good as the the previous model. I've tried to iron out the wrinkles, but with the iron set at 140 degrees c, it only just adheres, but I'm concerned about shrinking the covering where there is an edge! I struggled to find the edge to cut the film where the battery is fitted at the front of the fuselage, but sorted it in the end. I didn't like the idea of hammering out the unused wood as the manual recommend, so carefully cut it out with a razor saw. The undercarriage went on ok apart from one wheel that appeared to be wider than the other and only just fitted on the spindle-a good squeeze on the wheel hub and it went click so wasn't assembled correctly. It then fitted on fine!
  6. Well my Acro Wot turned up yesterday after the courier delivered it to the wrong address! It's the latest EP/GP version for electric or IC power. I couldn't find a detailed thread on this model, so I thought I'd start a new one. As I'm building it, I'll update the thread. First of all, I built an ARTF Mk2 last year an fitted an OS46AX, so will partly be comparing it to this. I intended to fit the Ripmax Quantum 55 and recommended ESC, but I ordered it on two occasions from well known suppliers and both times was told it was out of stock until March (which will probably be May). Sadly, I was told a couple of days after the order was made and paid for that they were out of stock-not good service.
  7. I haven't been flying for weeks, partly because of the dark evenings, but mainly because of the wind! All I've flown is my MCPX helicopter in the living room!
  8. Hi Bigger nose wheel looks odd, may replace all with a slightly larger wheel. Had 2 overlander and one turnigy, I balanced and checked the prop and used an unbalanced irvine spinner. The last (Turnigy) motor failed at over 3/4 throttle so I reckon something was out of balance-perhaps the prop mount was or perhaps the prop was rotating at too high a speed?? Anyway, after 3 motors, 2 spinners and 3 prop mounts I give up! I've only flown the bullet a handful of times and it flies really nice, it would be a shame to leave it on the wardrobe!
  9. Hi I have ground clearance problems with an 11" prop (use an 11x7 on the acrowot) hence the 10" choice. Ian
  10. Having tried 4 electric motors and 3 of them having bearing failure, I'm looking at fitting IC to my Bullet. I have an OS46AX max in my acrowot, which I thinking of fitting with a 10x6" prop. Any comments? Guy I work with reckons it's too powerful!
  11. Cheers Kev! Am I likely to see you and the jazz at greenacres at the weekend? Edited By Ian Southerton 1 on 03/08/2015 20:58:36
  12. Maidened the Mini Jazz on Friday, there was a 10-12mph wind gusting upto 16mph! Well, it flew amazingly! The new motor was a little too rich, but the thing flew really well considering its size. I only flew for 4 mins as I'm working out how long a tank of fuel will last, but I was glad to bring it down with only a single bounce. The only memories I have (apart from a dry mouth) are it being really responsive and powerful compared to my electric version. Hopefully, I'll fly it again next week and see how she flies on full rates. Ian.
  13. Thanks! Had to get a responsible adult to watch me as I used a pair of sharp scissors! Ian.
  14. Hi I used solartrim sheet. I drew the flames on the backing paper and then cut it out. Hardest part was sticking them on as they are fragile! Cheers Ian
  15. Latest mini jazz! SC ABC .15, weighs 1020 grams and needs a little tail weight. Don't know how Malcolm's only weighed 885 grams! Will maiden once the weather brightens up!
  16. I've bought an sc .15 for another mini jazz  I'm building, It was a lot to start but I got it running about 2 turns out, any more and it was spluttering, throttle response was a bit slow too. What settings are you running? I'm new to ic and have an acrowot with an os .46 that starts first flick and runs like a dream. Ian.
  17. Well, I'm kind of stuck with an 11" prop. I may be able to squeeze a 12" on, but it'll be close to the ground. I used an 11x7 and an 11x5.5 with the Turnigy 1100kv motor, 11x7 pulled too many amps, 11x5.5 was fine on amps but was down on thrust. The kit recommends an overlander 4240 890kv motor with an 11x7 prop, so I'm hoping the NTM motor will work. A larger prop would make life a lot easier! Ian.
  18. Cheers all. I ordered an NTM prop drive 3548 900kv motor from hobbyking, unfortunately the Turnigy plush 100a ESC was out of stock at the UK warehouse, so I need to look for a large ESC from somewhere else that will hopefully run cooler. I now intend to fit steerable nose gear (it goes in the direction it landed at the moment!) and will make another cowl with better airflow somehow! I bought some nice SLEC air intakes at a show recently, I may get a couple more at incorporate these! Ian
  19. Steve, it's tempting! I' can fly at my club anytime with an electric, but we're restricted with IC, so will probably leave it electric and perhaps build an IC one in the Winter. Minty, I have the standard turnigy 3548 1100kv motor. Perhaps it's not got enough cooling and I'm using the wrong size prop? I ran a 11x7 APCE on the recommended Overlander setup and a 11x5.5 APCE on the turnigy as the KV was 1100 (overlander was 900). Ian
  20. Well, checked the bullet over after the maiden and found the motor had fore and aft play. Turns out the grubscrew had come out and the shaft had moved. I tried to repair it but somehow managed to damage a bearing. So, I bought another motor, tested it in the garden for 5 minutes and found this one had axial play. I ordered new bearings and repaired both motors, but the second motor had the same issue after 5 mins and the first motor just didn't sound right.  I emailed the supplier who were of little help and to be honest I've had loads of grief with their esc's too! I then bought a cheap turnigy motor and modded the front of the bullet to suit. I flew it twice today but the ESC kept playing up and the motor was very hot (think it's too small), it also seemed a little under powered. The bullet itself flew like it was on rails (although there was little wind this morning) and I enjoyed flying it. Only issue was it rolled slowly, so I may have to tweak the travel on the servo. Also wish I'd fitted a steerable nose wheel lol! So, do I persevere and buy another motor and ESC or convert it to ic? What motor ESC/battery combo have you used? Ian.
  21. I have both the Wot4 and Acrowot foam-e. I prefer the Acrowot as It's less affected by wind (which there always seems to be plenty of!) and feels more accurate to fly. I took both out yesterday and had to take off across the runway (fly at an old disused airfield) due to the cross winds, but it was in the air within 10 feet. Landing was difficult ( I haven't been flying long) as we had turbulance off some trees and thermals? from the heat off the runway. Most of my landings ended up about 30 feet longer than anticipated followed by the cross wing pushing it onto the grass! I don't think either plane make good trainers unless you live somewhere where there is no wind, but on the other hand they certainly teach you aileron and rudder control as they can be really twitchy on a windy day.
  22. Hi Closing date for tickets was yesterday
  23. Anybody got one yet? I found a supplier that still has the MK2 ARTF so bought one!
  24. I've been the last 3 years, it's been on my calendar for 6 months! Just looked at the site and it's pre bookings only, no sales on the gate??
