Just bought one of these today and it comes with a "Ripmax Futaba" 6 Channel 2.4 GHz receiver. Question is - how do I bind this to my 6J Tx? My other receivers have a bind button on the Rx. Also - it only has a single aerial. Is this a Park Fly range Rx? Finally - the undercarriage is held on by a couple of small self tappers. How long will this last....

Used MIT courses loads of times for business purposes. They're great - but you do not get any academic credit.

I too enjoyed Cyril Carr's article on the Vulcan. Not quite sure about indulging AW with his personal aerial photography jaunt. I was surprised to see Simon Cocker's personal views on immigration and his vehement support of Enoch Powell's policies being printed. Agreed Ken - all the Xmas pop up gadget shops are full of them already. To be fair, they are of the small indoor variety. This feature from an innovation site (that connects new ideas with people looking for solutions) shows that the technology is becoming business mainstream and not confined to hobbyists.

Yes - this is tragic - but let's not carried away. The Project Manager's amongst us will know that risk is assessed on two dimensions - Impact (or effect) and Likelihood (of happening). Numerical values are given to each and then multiplied to give an indication of how the risk must be managed. Clearly the Impact of getting hit by a large helicopter is high - you will be seriously injured or worse. But what is the realistic Likelihood of this occurring? Probably quite low. So the mitigation needs to be proportionate. Sensible separation and flying guidelines. I think safety fences is a bit extreme.

You can buy a rechargeable pack and charger - the charge socket is much smaller than the standard Futaba one - but there's no need. I use four high capacity (2000mAh) "low self discharge" re-chargeable cells. As TWS says, battery life is amazing. I think I've only charged them two or three times this year! Colin, I've had both. Go for the 6J. It has more model memories, you can ID them by four character model names. It has a range of timers - essential if you fly electric I think the mixes and software is pretty similar - but it has an all round nicer feel.

Hi folks, I'm looking for a receiver to pop into an ELF discuss launched glider. Space is pretty tight in the pod - so I'm looking for a Futaba receiver that is compatible with my 6J FHSS set up. The R2106GF FHSS Receiver seems to fit the bill, but says it's for park fly use only. What does this mean in terms of range? I guess for a small glider I'd need around 300 metres or so. Thanks in advance!

I liked Steve Dorling's Thermal Soaring primer. Captured the essence and the attraction of gliding and the challenges it gives. Gliding (esp flat field) is sometimes presented as the least challenging of RC flying disciplines. But even Alex Whittaker recognised the skill of flying at height and long distance. At the other extreme - Andy Ellison spending £6K on an electric glider seems quite amazing in these alleged chasten times. May be the squeeze on household income, like the thermals at my local site often do, have skirted around the Skunkworks! One of the best issues for a while.

Small electric PNP/Artf for blusty days

If you are an experienced pilot - the Multiplex Dogfighter handles breezy conditions with ease. It is very fast and aerobatic; with a 35 inch wingspan it also gets small very quickly. -
I recently refurbished a 30 old Algebra 2.5 M glider. Used the old Dick Edmonds glass fuz and some own design wings that were originally built in 1982 but re-covered a few weeks ago. So, with a good forecast on Sunday morning I got there early at around 08:00 to give the old girl a whirl. Absolutely delightful performance! Whilst maybe not in the "modern mouldie" bracket for performance, it really destroyed my recent foamie gliders in terms of soar-ability, penetration and lift spotting. It made the most of the light early morning thermals - and an hour just flew by (ha ha) before I thought about landing. I even manged a bit of cross country, walking from (for those who know the site) the main slope, along the top of the bowl to the gate - and then back again. Love gliding. Love slope soaring.

On a wider note - in the digital age - what value does the traditional kit review in a print magazine really have? By the time a model review appears in print, the web forums have disected it, evaluated it, found the bugs and fixed them and posted a shed load of photographs and videos. As ever on the web you have to be your own editor and filter - but the info is out there months and sometimes years before the mags get hold of them. Maybe the mags should take a slightly different approach? Ownership reports after 6-12 months? Trying them in competition? Proper comparison reports?

The Mag did a side by side review of three simlar models a while back - but it sort of missed the point. Each reviewer wrote about their model - but they did not fly each others, so comparisons didn't really take place. Agree with Ronnie's comments that just because you are a novice rc flyer it doesn't mean you are an imbecile who can't take pictures or write in joined up sentences! Took advantage of superb thermal conditions on Friday to have a cheeky Easy Glider Pro session at my local village playing fields. It wasn't long before a few yummy-mummies appeared with Jack, Cordelia and Hugo to play on the equipment and have an informal picnic. As the kids moved towards me I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions - how much, how fast, how high - that sort of thing. They seemed genuinely interested, especially so when I asked them to look out for any circling birds. One of their eager spots saw the EG spec out to quite a height. At this point, a few home truths appeared: Hugo asked me "can you make your fake plane fly as fast as that real one over there?" - as he pointed to a full size Cessna in the distance. When I landed after an hour or so and walked with the EG back to the car, Jack came running over and I could hear him saying it was much bigger than he thought. But then came the kicker. As I lay the EG on the grass to take it apart he stopped in his tracks: "Wow! Who would think it could fly that well when it's just made out of foam!" Such insight. Such clarity. Plan enlargement - where to go?

Hi folks - I used Staples to copy and enlarge some plans. They were very reasonable. I think they can do up to A0 - so not sure if that is large enough. I also got a couple of reduced plans in A3 and A4 size to pin on the wall and give an overview to refer to when the bigh plan is pined to your board covered in balsa and tools! -

OMG! Blast from the past! Do you mean this one? I learned to fly RC with this as an 18 year old - from both the slope and flat-field. Did its job well. Managed several flights of over an hour on the slope - and my best flat field time was around 40 mins or so. -

Try the trusty Multiplex Easy Glider Electric. The Pro version has a brushless motor. I've just come back from a session at my local Parish playing fields. Three or four 30 second climb outs gave me an hours flight utilising gentle lift that was still around. There's lots of clones and similar 2M jobs around - and they all seem to tick the boxes you are after.
