  1. Yes, thats the one, but 500kv not 650. So as long as I do not go over 35 amps when I am trying different props (and checking the Watts to which develops the most power), I am good to go?.
  2. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 27/06/2018 16:04:14: Just plug the meter in between the battery and the ESC. Both of mine then display the current, voltage and power being used. At this point it helps to know the current rating of your motor and ESC! As you slowly open the throttle you will see the current increasing, don't let it exceed the ratings of your setup or the magic smoke will escape. It helps to have a selection of props on hand to try. Sounds straightforward enough. I know the ESC is 40amp, but how do I tell what the motor is rated at? Its a BH3720A-KV500 shich means nothing to me!. Do I just make sure I do not exceed the 40amps, or do I have to worry about amps and volts etc? Many thanks for your help so far!
  3. I asked the same question to Motion RC and they came up with a 15x6, which is similar to the 13x8 and 14x7 as all = 21" one way or the other. Looks like ground clearance is the next hurdle. I have to make an admission here...........I have watt meter but have no idea how to use it, could one of you "experts" explain in idiot-proof language please?. Many thx for you help so far.
  4. I would like to change the three bladed prop (13x7x3) on my Dynam 109 for a two bladed prop. Can anybody advise as to what size / make / type would be a direct replacement? Many thx.
  5. What is the general opinion of Dynam Models?. Compared to its competitors, are they good, bad, awful?. They appear to have a great range of reasonably priced models, and have good reviews.......so over to the you guys!
  6. Posted by Chris Walby on 02/06/2018 23:02:00: I have an electric ME109, easy to build and flies will, but rather old school and not very fast (I am pushing 840w/lb). There are name sake and far eastern versions that are more up to date, cheaper and faster! IMHO I have had both the Spitfire and ME109, but would not bother again. They were heavy for their size, needed a .32 for a good hand launch, and glided like a brick. There are much better hard foamy equivalents out there now, that are faster, lighter, glide well and look fantastic. Oh, an can be put together in an hour!.
  7. Dakota DC3 in DDay markings a couple hours ago. Brilliant.
  8. Has anybody tried the range of plugs that HK sell?. Just changed from an OS F to a HK N04, and what a difference. Transformed my ASP 120FS easier starting / smoother tick over / instant pick up etc. How long it will last is the next question!. I have purchased the full range and will change / test in due course. So far....so good!.
  9. I recently had to ditch a Life 1700rx pack, even though only a couple of years old it would not balance. Tried everything but still no joy. My Zippy packs are fine, but this was a Turnigy Nano Tech, and similar happened to my TX pack.
  10. Well, my newbie m8 had at least another 6 x 12 minute flights today, with no problems at all. Pack charged fine and appeared to be as powerful as his others. Useful gizmo on these packs is a % left read out on the end of the pack, very snazzy. I take on board the safety features etc. Lets not get all bitter and twisted....the hobby is supposed to be FUN!.
  11. Posted by Mike Blandford on 11/05/2018 19:21:51: Simon: What make of battery is it? Maybe it is a newer design that recovers better than older designs. Mike Mike, its a Hacker ECO-X 3000 TOP FUEL LIPO 3s 33.3wh 20c The newbie paid a LOT more than £13.75 (where did that creep in?), It appears that some people go into lockdown as soon as the word "dead lipo" is mentioned. Odd really!.
  12. "Utter Lunacy". I don't think so. Try helping out a newbie club mate who made a sprog mistake and is not flush with readies. It was an experiment that worked. I am well aware of the risks associated when handling Lipos, and employed my own rigorous risk assessment prior to starting the "kick it" process. Ok, the pack would probably not hack it in the latest 4D "must have" model, but for its intended use has proved to be fine. Horses for courses.
  13. I have been using HK covering material for years. Never had a problem with it. 5m rolls for peanuts as well! Whats not to like?.
  14. Charged on the NIMH setting at .1amp for twenty minutes and then .3amp for the same. Then transferred to Lipo setting and balance charged at 3.0 amps. Then discharged and charged normally. Balanced a treat and holds full charge ok. Training session all day tomorrow at the patch with it installed, and used in anger, but so far so good.
  15. Posted by Cuban8 on 10/05/2018 17:53:04: Posted by SIMON CRAGG on 10/05/2018 17:30:34: Worked a treat. Fully charged and balanced perfectly. Many thx. Don't count your chickens until you've tried to get any power from it No problems with the chickens. All counted out and back in this afternoon. No obvious power loss, but warned my mate to be careful with it, not to push it to hard, balance regularly and watch out for puffing up. Bearing in mind it is in a floaty foamy trainer it IMHO is fine. Certainly would not trust it in anything more radical. I have to say, I am surprised it has recovered so well, unusual in my experience.
  16. Worked a treat. Fully charged and balanced perfectly. Many thx.
  17. Think I know the answer this, but here goes!. A learner at our club let one of his brand new 3000 3s lipos go totally flat by mistake. The pack has not puffed up. When checked, it registers nothing on the multimeter. Does anybody know of a way of resurrecting a lipo in this condition?.
  18. I had a Super Fly many tears ago, and at one point they were the "must have" model. Think I had an OS 40 in mine. Very robust model.
  19. I am running similar plus full set of nav. lights. landing spot etc. Been using a Lifepo4 2500 mah zippy. Got shot of all my NIMH a couple of years ago and never looked back.
  20. Slightly off topic, but................ We are lucky in having a fantastic club hut / mobile home which is a great meeting place etc.and has all mod.cons. A few years ago one of our members decided to go through the huge of pile of RC magazines and compile a library of plans. (Hut does become a "dumping ground" for magazines). We also decided to convert one of the bedrooms into a "shop" which is stocked with members unwanted items, (some of which come from deceased members, and would probably have been dumped), and is bulging at the seams. Couple these two together, and it is possible to build a decent model from one of our plans, using some of the balsa / covering etc. from the shop. I recently went down this road, and built a "Buggly Ugger", which has turned out to be the best 3D model I have ever had!. Anyway, hopefully other clubs may be able to glean something from what we have done.
  21. I am all for supporting the local model shop, but at least five in our area have gone over the last few years. I have recently used both SMC and KLM who have been excellent. But IMHO they just cannot compete on items like Lipos. For example a 4000mah 50c 6s from HK on a "special" was £35.00, best price I could find elsewhere was over £80.00!. Also with HK you get regular updates as to where your order is, and points which can be redeemed in due course. All in all, they provide an outstanding service IMHO.
  22. I am not taking it as a "bad sign", but a fact of life. I am more than happy to teach more mature members, they seem to remain in the club longer and do not leave as soon as things become difficult (landing for instance). Usually our club is steady at 60, but so far this year only 45. I realise that HK has its faults, but I think they are fantastic!.
  23. Posted by Percy Verance on 22/04/2018 20:51:07: We don't like to say it or even admit it, but our hobby is shrinking/diminishing. That is why Solarfilm decided to call it a day and cease production. It's also why model shops are closing down with sad regularity. The supply and choice of artf's isn't immune from these trends, and is almost certain to follow the same road. As long as the basic materials remain available, I'm happy to build my own models. Yes I've assembled and flown some artf's. Some good, others not so good. I personally wouldn't be overly worried if I didn't have anymore. I do get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction creating a model from a plan or kit. Doubly so if they fly well. Same at our club. We are getting new members who are mostly retired, and turn up with a foamy trainer. I think the hobby is on the decline. Not 100% sure why. Could be the "computer / phone" generation, "drones", lack of model shops, disposable income etc. Luckily, I have got a hanger full of great models to choose from, but if one was totalled I probably would not be able to replace it like for like. The second hand market seems to be be thriving, but the prices on new ARTF's has gone mad. We have got a great club "plans library", from which I recently built an excellent 3D model, but not everybody has the experience to do this these days. I was instructing a new chap today, who had recently purchased an electric trainer "package" which was superb. Came from Hobbyking, but similar size to the Arising Star breed of models from a few years ago. I cannot remember the last time we had a new member under 25!. 24. Good job! I am a great lover of all things Ben Buckle and my current eye candy is the Playboy. Unbelievable that these vintage models are still so popular today. How many of the current crop of "must have" models will still be around in 60+ years time?. One minor issue though...........they MUST have a decent four stroke installed for the true vintage experience!!
