    These look like last years T&Cs. This years scheme DOES include export.

    This scheme is not aimed at delivering savings to anyone. It is aimed at encouraging people who have the ability to help the grid to cope at times when it is struggling. This is either by them reducing how much they take from the grid or by how much they feed back into the grid. The grid effect is the same and (rightly IMO) the payment is the same. I am expecting to make a decent amount from the sessions in order to reduce the payback time of the rather expensive equipment (currently 5.5 years). I can export at about 7.5kW, so a 1 hour session should earn me £2.25 x 7.5 = £16.88. I would encourage anyone who has a home battery or not to get involved in this.

    Yes it is correct. I based it on what was paid during last years events. £2.25 was actually the minimum rate. The maximum was £4.
    These are special incentives that the National Grid fund via most of the electric companies over winter. They need to do this because the grid cannot cover the demand at peak times.

    There is also this clause which is probably to enable them to handle any "gaming" of the system via means they haven't yet thought of...

    I don't know where you got that from Matty, but it's wrong. Lot's of duff info on the internet and you may have found a copy of last years T&Cs, which didn't include export. This years does. These are extract from the current T&C's plus a FAQ asking the direct question about the inclusion of export during the saving sessions. HA Automation finished and good to go!

    As long as I continue to use IOGo to schedule charge it looks like I don’t need to worry about house battery drain. Next I must try the IOGo manual boost to see what happens then.

     

    All good fun and a learning experience for me.

    Just writing an automation to automatically charge the batteries up just before the forthcoming OctoPlus Saving Sessions begin, and then fully discharge during the session for a payback of around £2.25 per kWh. Happy to do my bit to prop up the national grid when the supply can't cope .... and get paid in return. (Not directly EV related but another benefit of the equipment).

    Edit - P.S. If you want to avoid charging your EV from your house batteries, Just move where it takes its supply to the grid side of your inverter/battery current transformer (Henley Blocks). EV charger becomes invisible to the inverter.

    Me neither, but I have used someone else's Nabu Casa account to help them with a problem they were having and it works really well.

    It's not available to "Go!" users but it is available to "Intelligent Octopus Go" users as payback for handing control of the additional EV charging slots over to Octopus.

    Edit. You do need a compatible car or compatible charger that can be controlled by them, to be able to get on "Intelligent Octopus Go"

  7. I have the same setup with my EV. Ohme Pro wall box, which allows Intelligent Octopus Go integration. IOG is leading the other generator's tarriffs in that it is using the surplus energy at Octopus's convenience to help balance the grid. Since the beginning of October, I have been getting immediate cheap EV charging during the day, whenever I plug in. House load / solar battery charging then also becomes cheap during the EV charging slots.

    I have setup my Inverter Battery to automatically detect when an Intelligent charging slot is in operation and charge the house batteries at the same time. It is working brilliantly. Last month I paid 1.26% at full rate (29.56p), 58.61% at 7.5p and 40.13% free from solar. Savings over standard variable rate was £255. The free rate was above 80% in the summer. I got the EV purely for commercial reasons as it gave access to this great electricity tariff. PS. I also get paid 15p per kWh for export.

    Couldn't agree more Gary.  The Tesla cars are the worst for this of course and it's the one thing I really don't like about my Model 3.  It's another example of gimmicky in my opinion, sacrificing ease of use for some misguided idea of aesthetic appeal.  At times, trying to achieve something on a touch screen while driving is positively dangerous.  The voice recognition on the Tesla isn't bad, so I use that for some functions. 

    I suspect it's also to do with keeping costs down. A touch screen with various standards of software features must be cheaper than a bespoke dashboard.

    Touch screens in cars are a really bad idea in my opinion. Mine has one for audio / phone etc and controlling the index finger of your left hand at arms length whilst going over bumps and looking at the road ahead takes some doing. Give me a good old knob to grab hold of any day - ooh err missus.

    I know that there will be those on this forum, who will understand what it potentially mean. BYD sold 431,603 in the third quarter of the year, against Tesla 435,059. BYDS sales rose by 23%, whilst Tesla fell by 7%.

     

     Apparently BYD launched £36,490 Atto in March. That Nio sold 55,432 cars in the third quarter.

     

    Not a clue as to what it means, probably others do.

    BYD = Build Your Dreams. No idea what it means business wise.

    Press pedal to accelerate, ease foot of pedal to use regenerative braking. It can bring the car to a complete stop and hold it on a hill. If you drive carefully, there is no need to use the footbrake unless you need extra braking force.

    Being a new EV owner regen braking has meant having to slightly adjust my driving style but, like Tim, I now hardly use the brakes, it’s brilliant. Not too sure about iPedal though.

    iPedal is permanently on for me. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
