  1. According to the Shop4glue webiste, they are now closed until 14 May due to new factory opening. Maybe signs of life will emerge at that point? I've been holding off on an order until I was passing by their locale and able to call in. Sounds like that won't be possible just yet.
  2. Thanks for the info guys. I do have occasion to visit another venue, but fortunately I do have the temporary renewal slip given to me when I paid the subs. I guess I will email BMFA for a PIN after the bank holiday and look into country membership for next year. My club is a little thin on coms. We get maybe two emails a year, one each to remind us about BMFA subs and club subs!! But still, I value the flying field it provides, so all good really. Regarding the NFC, I think it is potentially a positive move and you can understand that any feasibility study must also require looking at candidate sites as and when they are available. It's not clear if the BMFA have actually purchased this particular farm or not, as that would appear to be jumping the gun. A single national centre is a lot easier to initiate and administer than a series of regional venues.
  3. I think some of the poor communications lies at the door of clubs as well as BMFA. For example, in my club I have paid my BMFA subs some months ago, but still do not have a 2015 membership card. This is because our club secretary relies on handing them out at the flying field when he bumps into people, rather than putting them in the post. This is not a complaint about my club, as I am generally happy with the informal way it is run. However, it is a valid observation as to the lack of communications, because I now discover that I need a PIN number in order to register for full access to the BMFA website and that PIN is apparently printed on my new membership card. In the absence of my card, I now need to email the BMFA and apply for a PIN so that I can get the access I need to be able to post a comment there on the NFC topic. I have experienced membership of other clubs, mainly automotive, and in comparison the BMFA membership renewal and website presentation is only just now emerging from the dark ages. Hopefully we can look forwards to some improvements.
  4. Having read the information in the link provided by iqon, the justification for purchase of the land makes perfect sense. Such a site would allow the BMFA to hold events under its own control, not relying on the vagaries of MOD or other land. Also, those in clubs who do not have good instructor/examiner provision would have this as a final backup, even if it did mean travelling for the occasion. What does not make sense is the difficulty in finding this stuff by navigating the BMFA website!
  5. Having googled DX4e, it does have trims and servo reversing switches on the front panel. It's very basic, but still sufficient for a Riot. On the other hand, you can pick up a new DX6i from Kings Lynn Models for about £65 now.
  6. I'm a long-time Riot owner. I would say that it is perfectly OK with a basic 4ch, so long as you set up the throws sensibly. In that case you are no more likely to crash than with any other radio. I fly mine with a Hitec Optic 6 Sport, which has similar capabilities to the Spektrum DX6i. The ability to put the ailerons on separate channels and program some differential is useful, as is the facility for rates/expo. However, I would not say that it was essential. The new Spextrum DX6 has a lot of facilities somewhat superfluous to the Riot, so you could save that expenditure until later, when you were ready to upgrade. A further tip on the Riot.... it's worth experimenting with packing washers behind the motor mount to adjust down and side thrust. When you get this optimised, it will take off straight as a die without any need for major rudder intervention. 7. I think factory spares for ST has pretty much dried up, but Motors & Rotors might have some old stock. There is an ebay seller called "gaviscool" who makes piston rings for any model engine. I have not used him myself, but I did consider it for an ST G45 with a stuck ring. In the end I was able to free it without breaking it. Any make of gudgeon pin circlip will do, so long as it is the correct size. Measure the diameter of the pin and Just Engines should be able to supply a suitable clip.
  8. Phew! Not my habit to write posts, but.... If the father works at the fiscal's office, the last thing he needs in his profession is a son with criminal tendencies. Therefore he is likely to take any reasonable approach from you seriously. This should give you a much quicker and more economic result than the rigmarole of installing CCTV and trying to gather further evidence over an indeterminate period of time. I'd suggest trying to talk calmly to the parents, if possible in the first instance when the son is out.
  9. I did the same thing with a 3S 2200mAh LiPo and it has been in perfectly normal use for a year since. I don't expect the LiFe to be any different.
  10. I found myself in the same boat struggling to find a lipo which was slim enough. Finally I found the "Dynamic" 2200mAh was an easy fit and came ready made with the Deans connector at a good price.
  11. Fortunately, Yes. My free time does not coincide with normal working hours, so I am often solo at the flying patch. After all, I am allowed to ride my motorbike all by myself. Also I can go cross-country by mountain bike or running and meet barely a single soul all the way. There is risk in many things we do. In my view, it is up to the individual to be responsible.
