Really? You think? I must resign as a club sec immediately then or stop flying..................

Indoors ammo boxes might seem a great idea, but if a LiPo self destructs inside an ammo box, if gas tight is it going to go off POP, and if not gas tight won't you get at the least some pretty bad smoke damage? Temperature wise external storage should not be an issue as they can be taken down to -25 with no damage PROVIDING they are allowed to warm up to room temperature slowly NATO Ammo Boxes have a rubber seal glued into the lid to keep the ammo dry making them almost gas proof - two ticks with a scalpel to remove a 6mm section of the seal will give you a gas vent.
  3. Nothing wrong with having a start up areas BUT all planes must be pointing into a unoccupied area as a safe run off and everyone should be behind the prop line - allowing them to face in any old direction is not safe - the concept of a start up LINE would be better and only allow a depth of 1 model all facing towards the runway
  4. Looking at the company financials its been coming a while.... Net Worth 2011 - £520,000 down to £101,000 in 2016 Total Asset 2011 - £2,013,000 down to £861,000 in 2016     **LINK** Edited By Dave Hopkin on 20/07/2017 16:57:45
  5. Its not that new anymore as its been awaiting its maiden for some time but anyway.... Masons Models Chippahwak 72" span powered running on a 5S electric set up Bicycles clips on...........Oh well here goes............... She flies..
  6. Did this in the late 60's at a club organised by the LMS on Oxhill Rd Handsworth we flew at Cherry Orchard School, in Birmingham - kielcraft rubber powered kits as I recall with a small electric motor in the front - wires led out to the wing tip - wires back to a couple of ball races on the central pole with a wiper arm on each, control was via a train set controller - all very heath robinson but it worked!!!
  7. To get 10,000 RPM from a 12v supply with an outrunner you will be looking for a motor with a Kv rating of between 800 and 850, but to spin a 30" prop at 10k..... the norm for that sort of motor would be in the region of 11 to 13" prop
  8. Posted by Danny Fenton on 08/07/2017 11:04:29: The Fantome is up there too Dave, but we all must have built the Airfix Fury MkI This is the Duxford one, but the artwork also shows a camo version which I like too Cheers Danny No doubt most of us did but in my time they were in plastic bags not boxes!!!
  9. Before you put knife to wood, study the plan and visualise how the parts fit together in your head When cutting wood always try and cut so that the grain will draw you away from the cut line rather than into the part Dont try and force the blade to cut too deeply, several light scalpel strokes are better on small models like the rubber one you mentioned glue can significantly increase weight use is as sparingly as possible - tight fitting joints lightly glued are stronger than lots of glue on loose fitting parts
  10. Looking forwards to this one Simon,,,......
  11. Paah not a single VIFF in sight.................. Apart from that Fan-blummin-tastic!!!!
  12. Posted by kc on 06/07/2017 17:23:04: It could be any number of things as everyone said .........however when I read your report the thing I noticed was you said " got the landing gear up and banked round thats when issues were made apparent" and later " thats when it happened landing gear down ready for a nice landing and dow it went again " Is it a coincidence that the worst problem occurred when the retracts were used? My view is a possible cause could be the retracts taking all the available current and not allowing the Rx & other servos a chance to work - hence losss of control. Something to check in future --can the ESC or nicad supply enough current for several servos all at once. Edited By kc on 06/07/2017 17:28:37 Are we sure there was no CoG change as the wheels came up?
  13. Only ever had one Lipo go up (my own fault) and there was virtually nothing left of it bar a few shreds of wire - so the photos of the Lipos surprise me
  14. The begging of the end???? **LINK**
  15. The other problem I can see (at least on my own experience goes) is that as time passes models come and go the variety of Lipo sizes you will need to take will change - a cell structure designed to fit a specific size of Lipo may not be future proof....
  16. Personally I keep Lipo's separate from everything else in a ammo box - it also helps in the winter to a degree as it keeps the Lipo's a little warmer because the ammo box stays in the car
  17. Yes it is safe to put differing cell count Lipos in series to make a higher cell count with the proviso that the C rating of each pack should be capable of supporting the current to be drawn (they dont have to be the same though) After all a 4s Lipo is simply 4 single cells in series packaged as one unit anyway
  18. Personally I would go with 2 servos but does the wing have suitable holes in the ribs for the servo lead? If not you could use some brass tube with the end roughed up and serrated as a drill/corer to create a small hole then thread some servo wire (without plugs) through the tube to the servo bay, then gripping the wire withdraw the tube leaving the wire through the holes ready to have plugs fitted
  19. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 19/06/2017 20:36:56: Thats fine Dave, and I am aware of what it can do, but if someone has just bought one then where do they start? Lots of info on the finer points of setting the thing up but there seems to be very little for a newbie. So many options for the Rx/Tx s/w which will vary from when an item was bought. My set is now on pre EU (global) but not sure if I bought another Rx if it would work. Probably not without backward programming it which can be quite a headache for some of us. I would suggest right here........................ **LINK** Far more tuition available than many other makes of system...................
  20. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 18/06/2017 23:54:42: Well, you may have no trouble Dave but I do not as yet use Companion since I need to learn how to make changes at the field without lugging a laptop with me. Great system but most of the terms used are totally alien to some of us old gits. Recently had to re-load the audio because it failed on the count down timer for no reason at all. Most of my models require rather complex programs. And those complex models are far easier to program then in most other systems - even without companion, once you forget how other systems program it becomes easy, very easy.....
  21. Posted by Martin McIntosh on 18/06/2017 23:23:53: I see lots of support here for Taranis. Very flexible and great if you have a degree in computer programming, but the average aged flyer would be bamboozled by it. I know, I have one. That is a preposterous position.... yes its different but entirely logical - If you down load the Companion onto the PC and use the new model wizard a three year old could set up a model in three or four minutes
