  1. I went into Truro's Poundland on a mission to buy £10 worth of 'Giant Bubbles' for me mates brood and while searching found the DIY section. My eye was drawn to the 'superglue', being in desperate desperate need I picked up three packs of this: Works just like the stuff that normally costs £7+ AND comes with those skinny tips. Woodward on 04/05/2016 08:28:13: **LINK** Why oh Why do the media have to re-write the ANO Rules and miss significant ones out? - wouldn't it just be far easier to publish the CAA "Drone Code" in full so Joe Public gets a consistent and accurate message, instead of these misleading and contradictory versions we see so often Miffed of Manchester Mostly my thoughts as well..... My bets still on Pilot Flatus, or as us Yorkshire types would say: "He blew it out as dust."
  3. Posted by Peter Miller on 03/05/2016 12:50:24: I was wondering abut that right ileron too. My best guess is it's for trim as model appears to be flying in a sideslip.
  4. Posted by john stones 1 on 30/04/2016 21:44:22: What sort it is ? Pepperdronei There's a worry, if it all went wrong, some one could get poked in the eye by a cheesy bit of sausage. Try filing that with the CAA! Edited By D. Woodward on 01/05/2016 03:51:46
  5. Posted by Martin Harris on 30/04/2016 20:26:50: Hmm... Edited By Martin Harris on 30/04/2016 20:28:05 That'll never fly. The salt will be cold on delivery.
  6. Posted by Martian on 28/04/2016 22:00:19: Just an observation but I can't help but think how much building time is lost through this thread For me..... a 'time out' from sanding, weighing and pairing BoT wing set #2, the first wing was destroyed before covering went on. NOT the fault of a drone but it did involve a none depressurising human, who has 'piloted' flying things and done dumb things while flying things that I wasn't really in control of...... McCullen Cheribdis (sp.) and indoor hot air balloons spring to mind
  7. Posted by Paul C. on 28/04/2016 19:17:51: Must have been a Foo Fighter 😂 I thought that. Spoke to me dear old mum today and she said the same thing..... and that the pilot could well be a jessie and had just found which of his holes is used to equalise pressure!
  8. Mick Reeves Models does some really nice rigging bits: **LINK**   Edited By D. Woodward on 15/04/2016 16:30:28
  9. TMFC used to fly out the back of Grampound Road, but the club membership grew as did the village and they lost the use of that field, then they got Trendeal. There's not enough room for masses of cars / vans on the roadside, there'd be noise complaints as there have been in the past.
  10. Posted by Percy Verance on 03/04/2016 19:00:39: Darrell I'm sure there's a video of their 1/3rd RF4 flying on the Falcon Aviation site........ I've watched that and it seems to fly really well, most reports of the MR kit are 'it flies' and that's it.....
  11. Hmmm. Q: do people still fly at the Trendeal site? I took a 12ft stunt kite and flew there about 10yrs ago, in the 'lower' field, kinda wished I was flying a glider cos there were boomer bubbles detaching just a bit further up-wind.
  12. **waves arms about madly** I'm a Fournier fan too It's been a long time 'dream machine' since seeing one fly into Old Warden as a kidling. It was a study in perfection in every way.... Easy on par with a Dragon Rapide I looked at this kit but ended up going for the Mick Reeves 1/3, which is 'a blown up' version of his 1/4 world champ model. It's structure follows the full size, so if you put a full cockpit in it leaves one with the problem of where to put everything else. As this is going to be a 'proper' scale effort, I've bought the plans first so I can get all the details worked out, first job was modding the firewall to accept a dle35ra OR OS Pegasus under the hood. Very nice build daveyboy, cant wait to read about how it flies.
  13. Thanks for the welcome guys. Bouncenouncecrunch: There Is a (or maybe 2) larger DW1A plans out there, so maybe that models a Tapsfield plan.... reported to be an excellent flyer. IRRC it has the correct shape to the decking, the formers are not 'half round', they have a slight flattening on the sides and it's between 1/4 and 1/3 scale. I'm a member of some other aeromodelling boards, too much trolling and bovine droppings to wade through to get to know the 'interesting' people. Percy: I found the MR site after finding Falcon Aviation. Cool that you got to see that flight, I remember the model shop in Elgin, Scotland getting the kit in not long after, as a 'wee loon' I'd drool over that box. I'll try not to pick peoples brains, tis a messy sport and I find it hard to explain to the 'pick-ee's' loved ones why they are 'not quite themselves' :D:D I'll be sure to look up the Falcon thread. cymaz: Father and I were both members of St.Austell modellers club. I looked the club up the other night - I see you guys still have the 'club-house'.... I remember when that was moved from St.Eval ! I'll have to make the trip out some time.
  14. Hello all, I am a returning modeller after a lay-off in the region of 19 years, last thing I were flying were on the ends of 50ft wires. In the none plane time I designed and flew (still fly) trick and stunt kites. My father, the late Dereck Woodward, helped me build what is now called a BMFA Dart rubber model when I was 4yrs old in a vein attempt to keep my fingers away from his planes..... I watched him solder and fail to set-up a 'Fleet' kit radio when I was 7 and solo'd out on a highly modded BD Tinker by 10yrs. I got to fly all but two of his own designs penned / published post divorce (rcme Hannover and a dreadful Fokker D8).... I also got some experimental devises as hand-me-downs, these were the fore-runners to the 'USA Tailless' designs. We flew almost everything and anything. I'm in the throws of building a BOT that's now going to be electrocuted, so a slight delay while waiting for a wood order and electric bits to get here, then I can build a fuselage round 't bits. I'll cut my electric teeth with that then I plan on building my fathers Chilton DW1 for electric..... finding red and silver dope for covering / finishing are proving a challenge. For pudding I've bought the plans for the 1/3 scale Fournier RF4D by Mick Reeves. It's been a long time 'dream machine' since seeing one fly into Old Warden. It was a study in perfection in every way.... Easy on par with a Dragon Rapide :D:D It's going to have a DLE35ra for power while I save up for an OS FT320. That's the plan, I've got the dle to hand and have 're-drawn' the front bulkhead and structure extending back through the cockpit area so it can take either engine / survive / make more scale, found a sensible way to get the avionics in / around or forward of the center of graphitti..... only a metric bucket load of minor details to go before the scale details *sigh* :D:D The only real 'problem' is deciding which full scale RF4 to model - two very possibles and a 'reserve'..... maybe a poll in a build thread..... Anyway, enough waffle. Hi, I'm here and look forward to interacting with y'all
  15. Hi, Thanks Mike, most kind of you. I'll print it tiled, last copy shop I went in (one I used to work for(apprenticed as a Printer of the fine arts / graphics artist)) looked at me like I'd landed from the moon when I enquired about large format. But thinking about it for 30secs, I can load the pdf into Coral Draw and go from the scales to paper PM fired in ones general direction!
  16. Hi Mike, Could I trouble you for a copy of the plan as well? After reading this thread (and a few others) I'm starting to think I dont need to make more surfboards / HiFi stuff (I diy that too, though not 'bright' enough to design my own). Call it 'The need to build the model that never was'....... there was a variation that got drawn but was put on the back burner - think Holli > Ms Jax > Evo?
  17. Posted by kc on 06/09/2014 17:54:25: ( what does Ms Jax mean anyway? ) Hello All, Dont Panic! My name is Darrell Woodward, son of Dereck (R.I.P.) , member 'kc' directed me here from another forum my father was a long term member of. Ms. Jax was mooted and initial design work started about 12 months after 'Holiday Special' was maidened - in response to 'Holli' kicking butt in almost every 'Club 40' aerobatic comp entered - dad would let me fly Holli in the comps just to 'iss' off the competition / baying crowds off even more. They didnt like the fact that a TINY model with a .25 up front could do Everything in any schedule....... and some stuff that was not! These one piece models were designed - Holli first - to go on the back seat of his 1967 Fiat 500 (which I learnt to drive in). Anyhoooo..... Whats in the names of my fathers Sport planes? Holliday Special was designed (in his head) while on holiday in Somerset. Lil Jo. (early 80's) was named after his god-daughter...... Ms. Jax - Ms. is the title of a married or divorced woman (Miss is un-married) and Jax is the 'Air Traffic' designation for Jacksonville air base, where he met Sue. I'm sure my father would be delighted that there is interest in this design, be it scaled up, down or nailed together as is AND that some one has 'electrified' it. I doubt my farther would protest at a scaled down version being named 'Miss Jax' Mr.Smith, really fine building there Sir, reminds me of days gone by....... After 17yrs flying kites (own design) I really should get my act together and build a sportplane, it would be good for the wind-less days, which so far count 4 in a row here in sunny Cornwall and there's no surf either (I make my own surfboards as well!!!).
