  1. Well intentioned restorations are never normally dull , and make very interesting reading . thank - you. Q."Literature is strewn with the wreckage of those who have minded beyond reason the opinion of others." - Virginia Woolf
  2. Thanks for reply , I have only ever used the wire type - linkages - retract servo setup , which often drove me to distraction , but , I ain't the best builder in the world and better geometry may have improved matters ...... Come to think of it, I still have a set of new ripmax type mech's somewhere , and a few unused retract servo's I think. I don't like the sheer weight of mechanicals either . No experience of using spring / air type ( in models) Yorkshire instinct ( Scotsman with generosity removed ) thinks use what I have , but the leccies do sound appealing . Thanks again for info.
  3. Your Model looks very nice , in a cool - classical way . be a shame not to fettle it and fly , even I can see that colour . just. I keep reading mention of electric retracts : would appreciate any info please from those in the know ? or are they mentioned elsewhere in the Forum ? Cheers.
  4. It never dawned on me to possibly use the belly pan for the wing mount dowels . Reading through this website is very informative , and thanks to those who share their building blogs & tips . Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 19/01/2015 13:22:00
  5. Posted by Andy Green on 25/11/2014 17:05:34: Q * The fuselage is jig built by DSM, so I would expect it to be right, * Sorry , Mr G, T'aint neccessarily so ............... With no disrespect to anyone the " accuracy " of DSM kits could be err' a little variable. Good idea to let the parts " stand " in the building room for a couple of weeks ( in the open not in the box ) before undertaking any assembly , in order to see if any warpage took place . I was told this was due to using very " green " balsa , but given the age of any existing kits you would think that they are by now well - seasoned ? Again , 2 of my pre - built DSM fuz tried to imitate banana's ! I also used to let the wings stand ( in their cores) in the airing cupboard for a few days , weighing them before and after . In any event , with DSM of that era their is / was a Lot of work involved , I built 3 x DSM and only one of the wing seats / bulkhead lineup was even remotely close . Fag Packet instructions , but His trimming chart works as well now as it did then . Long time ago now , but I seem to remember on at least one of them , setting the wing on it's seat for best fit , redoing the bulkhead / dowels etc. then resetting / cutting the tailplane to achieve correct incidence . rather than re- do the wing seat. As you are well aware Mr G. - Bob Cotsford got it right . Maybe not a good idea to finish the leading edge in the bulkhead vicinity beforehand ? but nobody I know builds the same way twice. Hindsight is a wonderful thing . I am sure you will get there in the end . BTW, I have no special expertise - these tips were freely given many moons ago by much better builders then Moi' Cheers.

The K.I.S.S principal currently applied appears to work very well, hope it stays that way. it's a Big enough Sky for everyone out there - whatever their personal flying preference . " All our Yesterdays " possibly ? but no worse for it . Regards to all concerned. * This post is an acknowledgement of the UKCAA , it's supporters and the publishers of this website for hosting it's Forum . Not to any build blog etc.

  10. Cheers for the heads - up |. But, Pleeeeeeeezzz Be careful out there guys , be VERY careful having just got thrown a deceitful curve - ball on FleaPit - Again ........... ( must add not by anyone mentioned or referred to on this website) " Classic / Vintage " are the new in - words used by many totally unscrupulus sellers to extort major coinage for incomplete / damaged / used and abused garbage , often described as new / other . Horse - Trading in the now rather popular Classic Aerobatics kits in particular , are raising prices to an often unpalatable level , and the Major risk of getting stung on flea - pit as a result . Caveat Emptor - Indeed . * These are solely my own opinions , not representative, and I make no reference to any of the forementioned items / links , or anyone else in particular . We all appreciate a heads up to a desirable item and Mr Michie is obviously acting in his usual unselfish / helpful manner . Shame a few rats , of both sexes , are infesting a largely happy Aeromodelling Ship. Ho -Hum , must get back to the old J.D , going a bit Rooineck ......   Edited By Peter Android on 07/11/2014 21:09:11
  11. Posted by Sam Wragg on 01/10/2014 17:22:31: Not Guilty i was disappointed. I have enough projects to keep me busy I agree. and will happily releive you of the Yank - Mr Doubleyerr BTW. It weren't me doing the carpetbagging either ...........
  12. Posted by Steve Dunning on 17/07/2013 20:03:33: I do wings, with balsa covering as standard, CNC cut with skins applied in a vacuum table. PM me with your details if interested. Steve. I would like to add : Steve's work is excellent , not to mention His general candour and considerable efforts in assisting others . Though a Prolific Model - Builder / Supplier / Repairer , never beats His own drum , and is the first to recommend / admire other Models and equipment He deems the equal or superior to His own . * if that fails to invoke a discount voucher ? I will show my backside in burtons shop window I jest !
  13. Posted by minty morton on 07/07/2014 19:58:19: I used to have the 25 size version with an Irvine 40 in it and it was superb Indeed Minty , that was a gem of a model - Q40 Irvine using mainly half power instead of the intended size , larger prop , effortless verticals - yet half the noise of an almost constantly flat out 25 , same tank size ? can't remember. whatever happened to it ?
  14. Posted by Martyn K on 29/09/2014 16:52:13: The Speed Air belongs to Pete Lewis. Very tidy and very nicely flown M Thanks for the comment, as an invited guest - I am well rusty , never an expert and it's sometimes better to be lucky than good ......... I too would like to thank all concerned for their hospitality and assistance , both UKCAA and our Hosts the * Shropshire MFC. * A weather eye will have noticed that many of it's members flew in another part of their airspace , or indeed neglected to fly at all in order that UKCAA may continue it's almost un - interrupted frivolities on a glorious flying day ............. Special thanks to Minty Morton who acted as both personal chauffer and assistant on a 7 hour round trip , though on occasion, his satnav appeared to respond to sputniks unknown . Cheers Guys.
