  1. Well...again, not meaning to be negative, but everybody says that about their forum community, and, usually, five years later or so, it's a mostly different group of people saying the exact same thing. We all want to believe in that, about the power and permanence of an online community, but my experience over the course of some near-20 years dorking around on the internet is it's always changing, a new crew is always taking over, and the past gets archived, or lost in a server change, or just plain old deleted. It's just the nature of the internet. Does not mean you cannot have fun right now.
  2. Valiant effort ends with broken back... This is a Fifties Lindberg Valiant vacuformed plastic FF model I built and converted to RC some months back...today was very calm, and I had a little time, so I went to a schoolyard down the road to test this out...thirty seconds of flight, and the wing folded. Back to the shop, add a spar, go back out again, and she is flying nicely, I reach down to adjust the elevator trim... And turn the transmitter off. She goes down into the snow, no damage. I clear all the snow off, launch her again, again reach for the elevator trim... And turn the transmitter off again. This time she goes in from much higher, fuse breaks in two. We will fix her up, but it was pretty stoopid. The plastic is very old and very brittle, the plane is quite fragile, but I am pretty sure I am the only person flying a vacuformed plastic model from the Fifties today... Flew fine, by the way...
  3. Just don't confuse the online experience with the real world...it's just not the same, and one of the most important things to remember is nobody really remembers. People get caught up in posting, in forums...some make it a real centerpiece of their lives...which is fine...but there is no PERMANENCE to it. Whatever satisfaction you get out of it is great, what I am saying is your status, your posts, your relationship to that community, it does not last. As far as people leaving the hobby, that has always been a constant....only a small percentage are "lifers", that's just how it is...there can be bad reasons, like economics, a divorce, whatever...or good reasons...they can just get burned out.
  4. Not to wax too philisophical, but everything on the internet is fleeting. People forget that, that the internet forgets. They get really involved, and 25000 posts later, they lose interest, or get banned, and very few people remember them. Plenty of legendary posters that nobody really remembers. Who were the top posters of 2004? Nobody remembers. Or, very few do. Not being bitter or negative, just realistic. Forums, posters, and the internet in general, it's all very temporary, it is the nature of the beast to move on to the next thing sooner than later...
  5. Eric Brown is my hero...my wife said he is like Forrest Gump...whatever happened in the 20th Century, Brown was probably there... I did read his writeup on the 410, long ago, and I remember getting the impression that something was not right, power-wise, on the particular aircraft he flew. The Luftwaffe guys seemed to have no problem with it... His writeup of the FW-189 has always made me want to build one, which I am contemplating for the near future... The model should fly fine, frankly, it has all the right moments for a nice flying model, and power will not be an issue with two 160 electrics on 12s. Will probably made up some scalish 3 bladers, never did that before. Don't really see anything commercial out there that looks the part in the right size...
  6. It's the first model built from a plan by Tony Lewis, aka dynamic-rc, you can look it up... Great plan, he drew it in like,, two weeks, at my suggestion... I built it last May, I think, in about three weeks, and lost interest for a while...I made a canopy master and had it molded by Bob Dively Model Aircraft, who now offer it commercially...just finished a plug for the scale spinner, which they will offer also. Yep...it fell off the wall, and sustained some damage here and there. Had a lot to do with why it sat forgotten in a corner of the shop for six months or more. Just started in on it again, after I picked up the canopy... Only stuff left to do...flap servos...motors...receiever...still some damage repairs... It's such an interesting aircraft...mine is not really detailed, but someone who wanted a really scale model could really do something with this one...
  7. Your guess is as good as mine. Except for the Berkeley Buccaneer, none of these are kits, but scratch or plans built, but it does not matter, unless there is a specific Mitsubishi Claude Forum here, there might be, I have not read all the forum titles yet...
  8. Thanks. I did not realize I had already started one. I do not know where to put things...there are an awful lot of categories, so if you put them where you think they should go, I can try to follow that lead in the future.
  9. This is a 42" span job, from an original kit. I got the kit part started, and the parts ended up scattered across the floor in the corner of my shop...I was going to throw it all out, but ended up saving it...covering is checkerboard silk, power is some whatever outrunner motor and a 3s 2200...flew great for ten minutes, until my fingers froze, in spite of gloves. That's enough flying until the weather gets better. Need to add a dummy ignition engine cylinder.
  10. All done...from Jack Sheeks plans circa 1976 or so. Great plan, spans 56", for 35-45 power, but mine is 60 electric. Took eight evenings from start to finish. Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 28/01/2015 14:35:41
  11. Hey, that's a great link, I did not know about it. Dave Fritzke is a great guy, I know him... I just finished glassing the wing, and I think I will do the fuse/tail/ailerons in silkspan and dope this evening, will update when that is done...
  12. I've had plenty of practice...evidently, I like repeating mistakes! ALways in the finishing...just got all the other details done, but the windscreen needs to dry overnight before installation...
  13. Mitsubishi Claude, somewhat flawed... Updated 4 seconds ago As usual for me, a great airframe with a lousy paint job. I like to repeat the same mistakes over and over...but it looks good from ten feet...few things left to do, windscreen, tailhook, mount the belly tank, aileron pushrod exit covers, connectors on the ESC...eight days from start to here, much of which was just masking, painting, and waiting, over the past four days...
