  1. Thanks Mr B. Yes, our encounter was yesterday however we werent that high and they werent that low - so I dont think either party was a threat to each other (other than whatever caused the crash). My friend is speaking to Odiham today anyway and we already use the Altitude Angel Apps on the phones when flying to check for notams (Same info on the site that ChrisB put up). This may be chalked up to "one of those things".....

It wasnt "that" low - Sorry - I have no idea what height but certainly a lot higher than any of us would fly a model but low for a chinook that wasnt at normal flying height. It was basically at a height that wouldnt cause any of you to think about whether you should be flying......
  3. Hi folks A friend and I were just at our flying field and were both flying around quite happily. He with his 4 stroke Extra 330 and me with my new Wot4 E Mk2 Artf (which flies great by the way - a very nice model). Anyway, we were both in the air and a Chinook came over on a low fly by, crossing directly over the field, then circling around the fields before coming back over a few more times. Now this may sound weird, but we are trying to piece together what could have gone wrong - The Chinook came back and all of a sudden I hear a shout from my mate just as his plane sticks itself about 8 inches into the runway. I look back at my plane and whilst it flies ok, I start hearing lots of "Telemetry lost" and "sensor lost" messages from the Taranis (despite there being full Rssi) and the plane only being within 100 metres of me. I decide to land and look at the damage. His plane is finished and is only fit for the bin, hopefully the electrics and engine can be reused. So what caused this? Both planes have flown numerous batteries/tanks with no issues. He was performing a figure of 8 infront him - a move he had done at least a dozen times today. He said the plane just nosed over and then went full pelt into the ground with nothing he could do to control it (He has been flying for 10's of years so not a newbie error). Do Chinooks have anything that could mess with a 2.4 ghz signal? Are we clutching at straws? There is nothing else we could think of that could affect both planes at the same time at a field we have flown at for years with no interference, weather was (cold) but clear. Any thoughts? Thanks Neil
  4. Posted by iqon on 06/12/2016 21:14:04: I would be surprised if your stuff will work in the balsa version, I would check youtube out to find out what others are using Funnily enough, I have looked but couldnt find any videos (plenty for the foam one) but none for this Mk2 version. I am guessing as its a popular plane (Wot4 in general) in the UK that there isnt a huge amount of content uploaded from outside the UK? For the record - This was the one I was going to purchase - http://www.ripmax.com/Item.aspx?ItemID=A-CF003A Not this one.... http://www.ripmax.com/Item.aspx?ItemID=A-CF002/A   Edited By Neilma on 07/12/2016 15:48:59
  5. Thanks folks - decision made. I shall repair the foam one. Run it until xmas. Then take delivery of a Wot 4-E Electric Mk2+ or whatever it is called (the balsa 80% version for electrics)- move all the bits from the foam across to it and see how that goes. I can then dispose of the foamy or keep it for the inevitable earth/plane interface that will be iminent at some point in January
  6. Thanks chaps - I am not averse to a balsa - Just the building of one from the ground up Since your suggestions, I have also found the Wot4-E Mk2+ which looks interesting - Can reuse all the electronics etc and wont break the bank Anyone have one that could recommend it or take a swerve?
  7. Hi folks My trusty Wot4 Foam E finally bit the dust today - After a couple of years of flying it has accumulated its fair share of glue/filler and steam to get the foam back in shape and after todays unplanned meeting with the field (dont fly with the S6R in knife Edge mode and then turn off the throttle switch by mistake looking for the right switch) I have decided to retire it although it would be an easy fix. I am looking to build something that will use all the electronics from the Wot 4 (ESC/Motor/Servos/prop etc) - I havent ever put a full model together (I have done a few ARTF and plenty of foam models) so I am not sure if I fancy all the building although something like the Fugly looks achievable for me. So, I am open to suggestions for a replacement plane? Any ideas? Thx
  8. I went with the Bix2 after looking at the reviews of which was best. I FPV mine with no problems. The front canopy is easily removed or swapped out (I have my FPV gear all attached to the front pod so I can remove it and replace it if I just want to fly regularly.)
  9. Thanks guys definitely some practice required - I'll stick with the wheel for now and give it a go on Saturday weather permitting, As for the the Tx, I have a taranis so not sure if I can physically do anything with the sticks however I guess I could dial in some expo on the rudder at lower throttle levels to try and stop any unnecessary movements a bit like one of the other posters mentioned near the start of the thread?
  10. Thanks again folks - So it looks like more training. Next time I am up the field I will keep the wings off and try some practice runs up and down the runway.. I had a quick look on the CC UK website - I assume you mean these Jon? **LINK** Wouldn't that turn the Wot into a plane with a skid that is derised by BEB above?(happy to give it a go though....) Cheers
  11. Thanks very much for all the suggestions. And to answer some questions.... No slack in the rudder control and its fine once in the air. I do try to get it off the ground asap as I am worried I will zig zag off the runway as I over compensate each way so have a tendency to pull it up quickly (which then brings its own problems). I did wonder if it was me, however we had a very experienced pilot/examiner down the field this weekend and he also mentioned it (he also reduced the throw on the rudder to approx. 50% what it was) and tried to bend the tail wheel incase it was tracking slightly however we didn't want to snap it so on looking at it tonight its when I noticed the excessive side play of the wheel. I like the idea of the moving the plane around with no wings idea, that will be some good practice. Ok, so I will fix up the wheel and have some practice I think - Thanks again for the suggestions!
  12. Hi folks I am learning to fly and have an IC Wot4 (its the balsa version - Mk2?) Anyway, I have been having problems with i veering left or right on takeoff, which I means I am using the rudder to compensate which then causes a problem with the plan once in the air as it suddenly goes left or right pretty sharpish. In an effort to sort it out I was looking at the tail wheel which seems to slide approx. 10mm either way on in its axle - I am going to assume its this that is cause my problem and that the wheel should be fixed? Before I use something to prevent it sliding (some fuel hose?) I just wanted to see if I was on the right path? Thanks
