  1. I'm looking forward to flying it, if it goes as well as this one.... Now, I'm thinking an RAF scheme with a shark-mouth....!
  2. My model was meant to be the one from the film, not the actual K5054. In the film, it looks a kind of light grey/blue with the usual RAF markings all over.
  3. I'd been wanting to build one of these for ages. I had the plans printed out and was intending on doing it over the winter, but then shifted it to the back burner for a bit. Then, I saw the recent article in RCM&E about it, so I thought "why not?" I ordered the power setup from 4-max and started chopping bits of Depron a couple of weeks ago, but really got down to it last weekend. Looks OK so far. Need to fit the firewall and cut out the control surfaces, as well as install the guts and finally paint it.....
  4. And this is my sixth FT Spit, intended to be a model of Spitfire Pr.IV AA810, currently being rebuilt to fly. After this, I actually intend on building something else!
  5. Been a while since I updated this thread. This is the 85%-sized FT Spit with its paint on. Still needing to install bits but a first flight isn't far off.
  6. Have just seen this, if anyone else is contemplating building the Thunderbob, Takeshi or the Spitty.... https://www.4-max.co.uk/customermodels147.htm
  7. So, for various reasons, my winter projects haven't quite gone according to plan! That said, I have built something - it's based on the J-wings Spitfire kit that I had (which, sadly, fell to bits!), but I have no idea what power setup it will now need! I made it from 3mm Westfoam-type material. Wingspan is roughly 30ins.
  8. A friend of mine got me some cut-down arrow shafts from her local archery club, so I'm looking at maybe modifying an old Spit plan to have a KFM-4 wing. The arrow shafts would be used as spars to give the wings a bit more strength. Thoughts?
  9. A few bits on the go: 1) Spitfire fuselage with some new markings. 2) New Spitfire fuselage to be cut out soon. 3) Takeshi wings ready to be shaped.
  10. So, I started cutting some bits out last night....
  11. So, a while back, I accidentally found a website for a company called J-Wings, who do a small range of foam kits in a similar fashion to Flite Test. And yes, they do a Spitfire kit. Naturally I bought it! Think it's about time I started putting it together....
  12. I did wonder, as I've not used it a great deal before (being more used to hot glue on the FT Spit). I did try the hot glue on a few scrap pieces, and it seemed pretty strong. I tried a few longer pieces sandwiched together (as if I was doing the wing), and it was quite solid.
  13. Is UHU Por the go-to glue for Depron or XPS?
  14. So, I figured I'd better put my money where my mouth is and post up a pic of my pile of parts! They're a bit rough, but there they are.....
  15. Nice! I have that book, too, but I've always fancied doing N3200, which was the other Spitfire Ia recovered from the beaches and rebuilt to fly. It's still a plan in my head....!
  16. Well, what I read seemed to work on smaller sections, at least. So, I have finally made a start on the Takeshi build. I've started with cutting out the tail parts. They're a bit rough, so I won't post the pics until they look half-decent!
  17. Another Depron question.... I have a warped sheet. I've read that the best way to straighten/flatten it out is to apply heat to it and apply pressure in the opposite direction?
  18. Silly question, and I'm sure I know the answer to this already but would like someone to confirm..... Depron - is it just XPS foam with a different name? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.
  19. Love it. I might need a Mosquito in the near future....
  20. Like NumaVig's planes - they all fly so damn well, particularly his warbirds.
  21. Dragged an almost-completed FT Spitfire out of the shed to give it a lick of paint. The original scheme showed off all the horrible imperfections, so out came the camouflage paint....! I know the green/blue isn't accurate, but it is tempting to leave it like this!
  22. I wouldn't trust Elmo to design it. He's a Muppet....!
