  1. Hi Ian, Many thanks for your prompt and informative reply. You're correct...I seem to be dragging the chain on my Lanc build, but I am actually making progress, believe it or not. I have now bought my TN plans, Depron sheeting, glues, motors, props, ESCs etc all of which are to hand while I get to grips with building my Roaring 60 Depron test "mule". Having come to the hobby late in life, as a retiree, I find I am taking a bit longer with everything, but I'm getting there! Another issue I will face here in Australia is a "Heavy Model" certification process which applies to all models over 7.5kg and as Depron is quite an unusual build material here, I'm going to have to be a little more conservative with servos etc and will fit larger, higher torque, standard servos to avoid a debate with official inspectors who cannot look past physical servo size on a completed 134" model. LOL. Like you, I will not build the Dam Buster version, but instead of operating bomb doors, I have bought the Canadian Shockwave 2 sound module, which with 106+Db of multi Merlin sound, is a real head turner and will add to the presence of this great model! This means I will have to work out how to accomodate both your excellent battery "drawer" concept and two speakers mounted under the fuselage as far forward as possible...another challenge. I will keep you posted with photos when I get underway................ Best wishes, Ian.
  2. Hi Ian, I'm still accumulating materials and components for my forthcoming build of the TN 134" Lancaster and building a smaller Roaring 60 basic plane meantime to become familiar with building in Depron, incorporating one of the Lanc motor / prop combos as a kind of test bed. On revisiting your excellent build, I cannot find any reference to the size of servos you used and surfing on the web has my head spinning with conflicting / obscure advice, so I thought I would ask you directly for information on the products you chose and would you use them again? Best wishes, Ian Mac
  3. Hi Ian, Thank you for your prompt and informative feedback. Your rudder setup is really neat and details of your wing joining process are very helpful. I too, expect to learn a lot in my forthcoming build and it's great to know that you are on hand to help with any issues that arise. Many thanks again.... Ian
  4. Hi Ian, Me again...Thanks to your previous advice, I have now compiled my Depron-build "manual" for the 134" Lanc. Having read it through several times, I have a couple of queries on items I'm not quite clear about and wonder if you could clarify/comment further for me? 1) Rudder servos: the pics and the forum text don't seem to cover how the two rudders are operated. Am I correct in thinking that servos have been installed internally in the vertical stabs, under the elevators on the inboard surfaces, hence not evident from the pics? Did you use standard size servos or slimmer units? 2) Long battery cables: I like your chosen power train layout and estimate that cable lengths to the inner and outer ESCs are in the order of 600 and 1000mm respectively. Given these lengths and the voluminous debate on many forums about the inductance created by long power wires, did you incorporate any capacitors in your build to mitigate the potential damage to the ESCs? 3) Wing joining:How did you secure the inner and outer tubes attaching the wing to the fuselage and what was the access point? I very much look forward to your advice on these initial queries as I try to get my mind round the ins and outs of my future Lanc build. Best wishes, Ian Macdonald
  5. Hi Ian, Many thanks for your prompt reply and advice on where to find your photos. I will now correlate the photos to your build text to act as my "bible" for my own build. Your achievement with the Depron Lancaster is a magnificent inspiration to model builders everywhere and I only hope I can achieve half as good an outcome as your superb model. Ian
  6. Hi there, I would very much like to follow Ian's footsteps in this superb Lancaster build and wonder how I can "resurrect" the missing photos as reference material for my own Lancaster project file. Can you please advise? Ian Macdonald
  7. Hi Kevin, I'm completely new to R/C flying and am about to join a local club to learn to fly with a Phoenix Boomerang / Spektrum combo. However, what I'm really interested in is building as well as flying and have decided to tackle an Airsail Chipmunk, as a lifetime ago, I attempted to become a Qantas pilot at Hamble flying these great little planes. I bought the last Airsail kit from NZ a few weeks ago and was assured that it was the latest version with the flaps included, but when the kit arrived although there was a full parts listing and instructions, I could find no parts. Strangely, I can't seem to get a response from Airsail direct, so wondered if you can tell me if there should have been another plastic bag with flap parts in the box? I can source the required balsa here in Sydney, but as a complete newcomer, I'm not sure of the other specific parts e.g. "1-Flexible push rod set" (size / length/ how many parts in the set etc). This is a great site and I have already learned a lot from the many postings I've read to date and I'm sure I will become a regular visitor... Ian Mac
