  1. Thanks Allan, As far as availability,my local shop has started stocking them. I think one of the partners had been eyeing them for a while. Not to mention, bought a higher end unit, himself. As far as Futaba- Spektrum thing, there is a myopic tendency here in North America due to the two distributors and mass marketing. There is a general lack of awareness on what's happening across the Atlantic. I mean, 80% of my club mates never heard of RCM&E! Weird, right?! I spread the gospel whenever I can.... I suppose what I'm looking for is firsthand experience with those who have used Graupner vs other brands and pros and cons. Cheers! Bill
  2. I'm thinking of purchasing a Graupner to replace my Spektrum. My old Spektrum has been through the wars with stop and go training these past few years. I've decided to get a new radio when I get my wings and the Graupner seems like a good system, particularly the new MZ 12 Pro. My club though, is pretty much Futaba or Spektrum users and Graupner is fairly rare here in Canada. Any thoughts?
  3. Hi there! I'm thinking of ordering a Jabberwock III for the build season later this year. Does anybody have any information about a build article or projected weight of the finished aircraft? Cheers Bill
  4. Thanks for all the input. Quick question: Could I use a light shot of primer filler and a quick scuff of very fine(320-400 grit) sandpaper after the second or even first coat? Help fill the weave in a bit faster? Just wondering.Hey Norm, what kind of plane is that? Gamecock? It looks more like a radial engined Sopwith Dolphin.
  5. Hello! I'm looking to use Sig Koverall. I know Solartex is the king of fabric and all that, but I would like to explore this product. Major Stumbling Block: I live in a flat. Dope has a nostalgic aroma, but I think my Missus and fellow tenants do not share that view. The ultimate goal is a reasonably fuel resistant, durable and nice looking finish. Is Deluxe Materials Eze-kote a viable alternative? Any suggestions? Edited By William Gordon 1 on 19/11/2017 01:32:30
  6. Sometimes a re-kit is a blessing in disguise. I picked up a"completed" airframe and used it to try and complete my flight training because my trainer was too badly beat up to fix in the season. Well, I wrecked that model too,buutttt....I discovered while picking through the the carcass there were a few reasons why the airplane behaved oddly. Those issues have been dealt with during an extensive rebuild and tweaking of issues. IE: no shear webs, insufficient dihedral bracing, lack of reinforcing on spliced sections... etc. I could have binned the plane and built a kit for the time and effort I spent this winter, but it's been a good lesson for checking things when picking up a model from the hobby shop ceiling. Live and learn...   Edited By William Gordon 1 on 29/04/2017 13:46:07
  7. Well my cross the pond brethren, guess what's happened over here? Imbeciles flying their drones willy-nilly have caused the Canadian Parliament to legislate drone usage by non-commercial operators. And of course, everyone is whinging about the NannyState, not blaming the morons who cause airliners veering or water- bombers stopping because of crew safety or damaging cars or the peeping toms. Legislation has been enacted against stupidity and irresponsibility but no one wants to blame the twits who brought it about.

    BREXIT

Hey guys. I know I'm sticking my nose in from across the pond, but by heritage, marriage and a britophile, I would like to offer my own humble opinion. The European Union, like the Act of Union, has benefitted far more than your populist revisionists and xenophobes would have you believe. As a Canadian, I can tell you it is always better to be a part of a greater whole. I only hope that you won't wake up as simply England with your banking and economic systems damaged. Like it or not,we're part of a global village.
  9. Thanks Doc. Please excuse the out of sequence first bit. I shouldn't be trying to post things on a device that is not suitable for first thing in the morning. I thought I had deleted the words in the first part, but apparently I had just moved them. Whoops. Anyway, I'm on very limited budget and the engine was purchased with an airframe. The fact is I have to try and get it to work in the name of economy, rather than binning it and buying a new ASP, which are supposed to be pretty good,(or better yet an OS or Saito) . I will do the checks you suggested before doing anything rash Edited By William Gordon 1 on 16/09/2015 20:54:50 Edited By William Gordon 1 on 16/09/2015 20:55:23
  10. was able to purchase Thanks for the advice. The engine seemed pretty sound at first, so I think the basics are there. I'm still sure that the little sod was put back together poorly. Like the man said, I can't fix if I don't know what's broke. With the poorly seated head, I will need to do a tear down. Little things, like the missing tension spring on the low- speed needle, missing throttle return spring, were already found. Good thing the carb on my old ASP 46 could give me suitable, although not exact, replacements. One of these days I'll be able to buy a new Saito or OS. But until then I'll keep McGyverring my until I get my wings. I have replaced the engine with a lovely little OS 55 AX that I had bought for another project, so I'm still flying.
  11. Thanks will-o and Bob. I did check the carb and plumbing. The engine was slow to start and run properly, the plane flew at well at 3/4 throttle then I took it flying and needed full throttle the second time. The third time wasn't a charm, my instructor and I did the full battery of checks. He said the engine had no draw and no compression. That's why I tried to torque down the head. If the previous owner didn't do that(torque the bolts down in sequence),what else did they short cut ? I am familiar with machinery and did a lot of my own work on my motorcycle and cars, so I have some facility with mechanical things.
