  1. Picking up on point #4 in the French article (i.e. use of a capacitor plugged in a spare rx port). I see Multiplex have had such a ready wired (plugged) item in their catalogue for some time (MPX Part No. # 8 5180 Peak Filter cost £4-99 approx). Is this item worth considering (at all), for 2.4 GHz users? Also ... With reference to NiMH cells, the latest variants (AA cells as may typically be used in Rx packs), are of the ready charged/long shelf life type (e.g. eneloop from Sanyo and similar 'badged' product from SONY, GP etc. I picked up a (SONY/eneloop) set of 4 x AA for use in my Spektrum DX6i Tx in the local Sainsburys at £7-99 (plus Nectar Points of course!). I've topped these up via my Schulze and 'load' tested, they seem good for Tx duties. Any one any thoughts, comments, long term experience of these 'new' chemistry NiMHs?
  2. A(nother) cracking good model from Multiplex. Mine is still going strong with dozens of flights logged in two years + (here and on European hols - yep it fits neatly in the car with the bucket and spade too!) . Fitted a HET 6 brushless in mine, spinning a variety of 7" folding props using the Graupner spinner unit. Found I  needed to use 8xNiMH cells (1400mAh Intellect) to ensure C of G came at the point where it was supposed to! Cells located immediately under removeable front hatch. My Speed Control unit mounts under the nose (in a cut out) exposed to the slipstream ensuring cooling.  As reviewer Gordon says, model can get a little twitchy in breezy/turbulent conditions , when landings are more vertical 'Harrier' decents into wind using the throttle judiciously! Will take-off fairly rough club patch type grass no problem (with Brushless power). Highly recommended.
  3. After years of using the Mk 1 finger tips judiciously placed at the the intended (plan/kit) c of g position, I invested in the Multiplex "Schwerpunktwaage" C of G Unit Best Nr. 693054. This to inject some precision into my trimming and model pre-flight preparation. No quibble with the quality of components and materials used for the device but the 'Beileitung' instructions !!!! Anyone familiar with those poorly photocopied and therefore indistinct assembly notes accompanying certain flat pack furniture will surely know what I try to describe. So I am at the final critical stages of assembly and try as I might to read & re-read the words of wisdom are no clearer to me. Has anyone out there assembled one of these units and can help please? PS (I have downloaded a legible (but still no wiser) copy of the instructions from the MPX web site and I have requested assistance from Multiplex but they are up to their eyes with fixing EVO radio sets at the moment!)
  4. Firstly thanks to all for their helpful suggestions. Re the last post Simon - The Weller 175W iron features a bit approx 1" x 1.5" - It's big! (As I say I have no problem assembling wire undercarriages). Perhaps someone knows if there's a online video of soldering model components(?) A possible suggestion for RCM&E to post perhaps?
  5. I've been around the modelling block a while and in the course bent a few wire undercarriages and (generally) successfully soldered the various bits together. Now several years (and some!) in to electric flight and I continue to have frustration and tantrums everytime a flight pack/speed controller/motor needs a set of (gold corally type) plugs to be fitted by soldering. (1) I've read the various articles in the model mags over the years and believe I'm following the good advice. (2) I have a 175W Weller Soldering Iron (It gives of so much radiation & heat I almost get sunburnt let alone the strong right hand muscles from lifting the mighty beast!) (3) Use the 'free-flow' fluxed solder as recommended by Nigel 'Mr Electric' Hawes. (4) Use a wet foam pad to keep the bit regularly cleaned during use. (5) Use a combination of vice & 'helping hands' (aligator type clips in a stand) to hold the items securely together. (4) Use a quality plumbers flux paste. (5) Use high quality silicon wire & gold connectors obtained from reputable major suppliers. (6) Apply heat to the components and try to let the solder flow..... So why doesn't it? Why do I get dull,dry joints? Why sometimes it's all fumes and no flow? I look on in envy at the bright shiny solder connections... Please help an 'old solderer' out of his misery. Cheers
  6. Thanks SteveJ. How do find installation of your DX7? Is it critical to orientation and location? RCM&E and the other 'comics' aren't showing this detail, they all gloss over this. Hope Multiplex (my current radio) can catch up soon but perhaps they've invested too much in the EVO and SX of late to abandon in favour of another system.

Where were the pictures showing EXACTLY how the gear was installed in the Magister and Mr Wilshere's valuable collection, and how to orientate those twin Rx units and their aerials etc Hmmm????? (We've already seen hundreds of pictures of Magisters in the air!)

And when all the fuss and PR spin has died down and the first users have had a few months, models, wx conditions, sun spots, high power adjacent transmissions, etc. experienced, What is 'real' the 'Achilles Heel' of this system? We had 27Mhz then came 'Breaker, Breaker' knocking us out of the sky. Then 35Mhz FM, then PCM, PPM etc. and mobile phones etc still knocked us out... (Oh forgot Ruftec UHF in there somewhere which never made it)What's the killer for these outfits? (Apart from poor ergonomics and two Rx units to fit in the fuz instead of one!!!!
  9. Have a look at FMT the German magazine. They've been selling CDs of the magazine for years great too no adverts!!!!
