  1. Finished a couple of weeks ago but not yet flown. Built from Flair kit this Cap 230 has been modified for electric power.
  2. This is possibly a daft question ! If you have a large spinner on a prop on an IC engine will it affect performance of the prop.? ie with a smallish spinner for example there is 4 inches of prop showing either side and with a larger spinner there is only say 3 inches of prop either side, these sizes are only hyperthetical.
  3. Was reading through this post earlier and saw that Jon recommended the Saito 45 fs I have just seen one on Ebay the link is below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143559493988 Regards Dave
  4. Again great info guys, but I agree with Jon, I am not entering any scale comps so the DB Spit will be more than adequate for my needs. It is interesting to get other views on what else is out there.
  5. Cheers for the photos Jon, the Laser 180 does seem to fit in the cowl very nicely. When it comes to the engine choice it will be a top contender. As I said at the beginning of this thread once i get my hands on my kit it will be a very slow build indeed, they are still out of stock at DB. I have a few projects to start/ finish first anyway but I like to have as much info on a new project first before i start them. If anyone else has any info/photos of a DB sport and scale Spitfire It would be appreciated. Dave
  6. Not sure which power plant yet, that decision is quite a way off yet. Would appreciate photo's. Dave
  7. Just caught up with the thread as only really get a chance once at work (Ha Ha). I would like to thank everyone for there advice especially Jon you provided me with some excellent info and much to think about. I may not be intune as some modellers with knowledge/ skills but I always get provided with top info from you guys. Cheers Dave
  8. Cheers for the info Jon, I still think i will go with DB, but will keep a watch out for yours or any other builds of Fokkerc spits and then maybe will I get one as well in the future. Regards Dave
  9. It would be interesting to see how the spit fits together, but dont do it on my account ! If you do perhaps you can post a pic !
  10. Thanks Jon, don't know if i can take the chance at the moment, it looks like the DB Spit for me now !
  11. I have been studying the FokkeRC spitfires and yes they look superb and you are correct in your appraisel of Rumen in that he replies back very prompltly to any questions. The only thing that is swaying me away from them is the fact that although superbly laser cut the fuselage is not built over a plan but built literally by slotting together. In my mind unless leveled up correctly with a laser (as a guy caled Manu Morray has done in some build photos on fokkerc's website) you run the risk of building a bent fuselage. Any thoughts Jon ?
  12. I agree with you Jon, it is all part of the joy when sourcing material / equipment for a build. The only down side for me is that living in West Cornwall there is no local model shop without out at least a long drive so most of my supplies have to come via the net. However there are always the shows and I know Balsa Cabin visit Wood Springs Show which is near enough to do it in a day.
  13. Hi Graham , just twigged it is you, Maybe next time I see you we can have a Spitfire chat.
  14. Thanks for the detailed info Jon, I have never heard of the Fokkerc kits. I had a look at the website and they look quite detailed although you still have to source a lot of balsa etc yourself. I feel I am at the stage in my modelling life that I am up for a challenge I have been building RC aircraft for many years including kits and even scratch building from RCME plans. My very first kit was a Mick Charles model Variant if anyone can remember it. Due to work and home commitments my builds take far longer than the average, but I keep chipping away little by little. A Spitfire is now my model of choice once my present projects are completed. I know there are plenty of techniques and processes that I still have to learn and it will involve a reasonable bit of money probably even the purchase of some paint spraying gear. Getting back to the fokkerc kits do you have to pay any import tax when you buy from him? I have looked at many build blogs on spits and the all mention keeping the weight down especially in the tail. At the moment I think I am favouring the DB kit as everything needed is included but will have a ver good study of fokkerc spits.
  15. Just to add to my first post the TN 72" spit is £239 and the DB spit is £375, apart from the obvious size difference they both include vac form parts and the DB includes a spinner.
  16. I am looking at getting one of two Spitfire kits the Tony Nijhuis 72" auw 15lbs or the DB Sport and scale 81" auw 15-22lbs. Can anyone help me decide with experience of building and flying either aircraft. Your views would be most welcome. Dave
  17. Dont own one but always fancied a saito. Will be looking around to see if I can get any good deals , no rush though as I still need to order the cub from db sport and scale.
  18. Thanks for all the replies guys, the general opinion seems to be no need to over power. I am now thinking in the region of a Saito 62fs. To me this seems a good compromise.
  19. How much does your super cub weigh Caveman?
  20. Thanks Jon for the great advice it sounds then that the fs91 I was considering would be a way over kill.
  21. I am looking into building a db sport and scale piper cub. It is 7 foot wing span and weighs around 7 pound. Would a 91 four stroke be over powered?
  22. Just came across this build blog, what happened next ? did this build get completed ?
