  1. Erflog's response above just goes to show how far these Health and Safety laws have gone.  To stand and watch a little boy drown, and then to defend the decision to do so  is nothing short of criminal.    Everyone should be responsible for their own actions.  It worked this way for hundreds of years without any problems.  Its only recently that we have gained what I call the "american attitude" and now have to sue for as much as we can get away with. After all, thats better than working for a living, isn't it?  No wonder this country is going downhill so fast.     I know this has gone off topic somewhat, but feel strongly about this.  Heath & Safety is nothing but a menace - builders and decorators not being alowed to climb ladders, policemen and firemen not being allowed to do their job - where will it all end??? Its costing the country millions to conform with these stupid regulations, and all for nothing
  2. Do you all not think that the Health & Safety boffins have gone over the top in this country?  What has happened to good old fashioned Common Sense?  If someone trips while walking on the pavement , to my mind its their fault.  They should have watched where they were going, but instead they have to sue someone.  Health and Saftey seems to be just another excuse to get some money without bothering to work for it, and to provide well paid jobs for the busy bodies who like interfering in other peoples lives.     You go to the toilet in a pub, and you see signs saying "Now wash your hands"!!!     does anyone  really  need telling that?   Or are these signs for children - if so, they shouldn't be in a pub in the first place.   Model flying is no different.  All we need is some common sense.  Its rather obvious not to fly towards people or livestock. Its obvious not to crowd round someone starting an engine.  Its obvious not to put your finger in a spinning propellor, but some clubs have these busy bodies who insist on spelling it out for everyone, and act like they own the club.  Come on Britain!  We are supposed to be a leading nation in the world. Lets get our act together and behave like one, without having someone having to wave little bits of worthless paper around.
  3. I use one on my Weston Mini Hype - It reduced the noise from 84db down to 80db.  brilliant!
  4. I bought a Walkera 36 for my son last christmas. RTF?   they must be joking!   I spent hours and hours adjusting it !  I junked the brushed motor and fitted an inrunner brushless (3200kv) and it now flys superbly.  VERY stable in the hover.  My son (14 years old) can hover and fly around the field with no problems - not 3D yet, but who knows!   Sorted out, these Walkera's are really good value for money.  I have seen the Trex version at our field and it is no more stable than the Walkera (and they are 3 times the price)     For a first heli, I would recommend one to anyone. Get it adjusted correctly - read the forums on the internet for advice - and they will fly really well.  Spares are cheap too -   A few things have been broken during the "learning curve", but all parts are readily available.  I even bought a second one from a friend who had given up with heli's.  Another friend on mine was so impressed with my son's flying, he bought it off me for himself.  I agree the electrics leave much to be desired, and we have had 3 out of the 4 servo's fail , but 2 or these could have been damaged in crashes.  I have fitted Tower Pro servo's , a 30amp ESC and kept the standard receiver and transmitter and it is now a superb little heli.  Doesn't even mind a fairly brisk breeze.
  5. According to my SC instruction booklet, the clearanes is "between 0.05mm and 0.10mm" (2-4 thousandths of an inch)
  6. You should try Aerofly Professional through a projector. 104" screen in a room 18 x 16. Just like being out at the field ( well, almost!)
  7. I just want to tell everyone about the superb service I have received from Weston UK. I own a Weston Mini Hype fitted with the West 36T1 engine with the Genesis tuned pipe. Last weekend the engine seemed a bit noisy, so I removed it and sent it to Weston for service / repair. To my surprise, they telephoned me saying the crankshaft was damaged and was being replaced FREE OF CHARGE - It seems there have been one or two problems in the past, and a new thicker crankshaft has been developed for this model engine. Thats incredible service in this day and age. Well done Weston, and a personal thank you to Alan for all his advice. If anyone is looking for a new engine I would throughly reccommend the West range - a little more expensive than most, but extremely powerful and backed up by a service thats second to none! Take a look at their planes too - superb quality and great flyers
  8. Yes please!. Had most of the Multiplex range, but never tried this one. All multiplex models seem to go together and fly extremely well
  9. Mine runs really sweetly. Very slow tickover and instant throttle response - almost like a brushless motor! Superb engine and well worth the money. I have had just 1 dead stick and that was after really throwing the plane around the sky. Like the Cougar , this plane just floats around the sky. I use the Poly Pro PP4 plug from Weston. its sightly hotter than standard, I'm told.
  10. I have now fitted a 11x7 prop and the plane flys much better - quieter too. With the suggested 11x4 the plane felt like it was stuck in first gear! Had 5 flights last night, and it is now quiet enough , just not got the strong vertical climb it had with the 11x4. The suggested propellor is probably fine for close in 3D flying, but for more general flying I find the 11x7 much better
  11. I have had excellent service from Planenutz. Despite my buying from someone else ( I didnt know about them at the time) I had one or two questions about the model concerned, and emailed them for advise. I received the reply back within hours and with a very open and honest reply. Top marks to Pete Wills. I am looking for another model for my son, and would not hesitate to buy from Planenutz, based on the service I have had.
  12. I now have a picture in my head of everyone wearing nice pink fluffy ear muffs - or perhaps I should get a box of assorted colours and let them choose their own!
  13. I have the above engine fitted to a Weston Mini Hype and it is incredibly noisy. Way over the 82db limit. I tried emailing Weston Uk for help, but they dont reply. Does anyone else have any experiemce with this engine and exhaust? The Weston website claims the exhaust is quieter than a standard pipe, but if our man with the noise meter was at the field yesterday, I would have been thrown out of the club!! For a 36, this engine is monsterously powerful (over 2.2hp claimed) and a superb starter with reliable running and instant throttle response, but how can I get the thing quiet enough to fly it? - I meant to title this 36T1 and not 35
  14. Seen the Air Loisers Hurricane. Nice model, but I couldn't live with that colour scheme - its really awful! Green and Sand??? Whoever chose that?
  15. Thanks everyone. The Ait Loisers looks good, just needs weathering to lose that horrible shiny finish. The Brian Taylor plans look good and if there is a kit of parts available, then that may be the way to go. I think I'll have to give this one some serious thought
  16. Does anyone know of a Hurricane suitable for a 60 2 stroke? I have a spare engine looking for a new airframe and dont want the usual Spitfire or Mustang ( excellent as they might be, I want to be different!)
  17. I have now sold all my IC engined aircraft and have 6 electric planes and 1 electric helicopter. Brushless motors and li-po batteries have reached the point where they can compete on almost equal terms with ic without upsetting the neighbours, and also there is much less to carry to the flying field. I agree there is something about the noise and smell of an IC engine that adds to the fun of flying, but it also limits the choise of flying site. Electrics can be flown almost anywhere and I find rather than people coming over to complain, they now come over and chat about our wonderful hobby and actually show interest. This must be a good thing for the future or RC flying. I would not rule out buying another IC plane, but would not hesitate to buy another electric.
  18. Its about time someone did a review of this superb aircraft. There are video's on the web, but I have not seen any magazine review it yet.
