  1. So I am part way through building my DSC Fly Baby and need some help in selecting power source and battery please. Its quite an old design and information I can find on its plan, build notes box and also the web is that the following were suggested power sources. .049 to .074 engine 035 cobalt or 05/075 ferrite electric motor such as the DSC 075 Hyperthrust motor .05 to .075 electric motor with 6 or 7 cells battery Wing area is shown as 275 sq inches I have also found on outerzone: reference to a more recent build using Firepower 450 Sport motor (1100kv) and 1800mAh battery on a 9x4.5 prop but it has not follow up info on whether it actually flew. And a link to an old RCME article written by the designer Ted Davey which gives more details, weight ready to fly as 34ozs and a wing loading of 16.8oz per square foot and he uses an 8x4 prop. Many Thanks
  2. Is anyone else still confused about the CAA registration? Mine expired today, so I have just logged into BMFA and to renew. No mention of renewal anywhere, just "CAA registration" available to add to cart which I did. No mention either of my existing ID number anywhere. Anyway, paid the £9 and then my registration appeared under "Membership" But, expiry date is showing as 31/01/2022. And operator ID is same as last year despite me thinking it would change. Then I get an email saying that if I originally arranged my membership direct with CAA or with another organisation I now have to fill in another BMFA form. I thought keeping it all in one place would make it simpler, but I am not so sure anymore! Was the system supplied to CAA by the same group who did the COVID track and trace? ?
  3. keen to see if anyone has one, what they fly like, any examples of modern power set ups etc.
  4. Thanks for the replies guys although I am still not sure how to work with this. Is there any way of understanding how this power compares to an IC engine. That might at least give me an idea. Could I compare this to a 40 4 stroke for instance?
  5. Hi all. Am considering a new build or restore project as haven't been that active recently and found this amongst my projects. Anyone else on here built / owned / flown one? Thanks
  6. So I haven't used my Seagull EPioneer for a couple of years and don't know if my daughters will ever use it so thought it might be worth making use of the motor, ESC and batteries for another plane. I have variuos kits and also old waiting to restore planes, but don't know what this would power. Motor is Turnigy C3548-1100 Batteries are 3S, 4000mAh, 30-40C. (I have 4 of these so really want to use them ? ) Thanks all
  7. aaarrrrggghhhhhh. I disappear for a couple of weeks and this happens. Unfortunately we have joined a myriad of other forums where we spend more time looking at white empty space and scrolling more. I know I know, I need to catch up with the times and sites need to be read on all different platforms but it is always at the expense of a good old fashion view on a laptop screen!!! Did the old site really have this much wasted space at the top of a thread?,..,.... On the other hand, thanks to Dave and others involved in running this site. It will continue to be a success I am sure.
  8. What about one of the 4ch Cub's from The Vintage Model CO, as featured and advertised in this month's mag?
  9. Neil, and all, having thought more and discussed with daughter we have decided to park this at the moment. Thanks for your help though Neil. One day I might still attempt this though.
  10. 3mm thick, about 7” long bends. might have spare, not sure.l Happy to play with wiring yes.
  11. Just wondered if anyone has experience of building a perspex hot wire bender please? Daughter wants one or her one of her school projects and obviously cant go into school now to use theirs, so how much effort is it to make one? Thanks
  12. Thanks JD8. I'll have to try that when I get a moment. I assume I have to be careful about getting too much inside the engine so dunking is out of the question?
  13. Just as the title says please. I have a few 2 strokes which I would like to clean up to make look a little better on a shelf in workshop, without the need to take apart and give a thorough clean to. Thanks
  14. Posted by Stuart Z on 18/10/2019 17:55:10: Andy Recent discussion covered some aspects of this. Personally, I use a Battbox S But where do you keep your batbox?
  15. I have 2 ammo boxes with lipos safety stored in them, but am becoming more paranoid about where to put them when not being charged, discharged or used as they gt older and my collection grows. I dont have a garage, and cant keep them in the house so up to now have kept them in my shed. But, there is lots if stuff in there i would hate to loose in a fire, so looking for another alternative. Would it be feasible to get a cheap garden storage container and put them in there away from any other building?
  16. The model is the original balsacraft version, so I would imagine its heavier than its SLEC relation and therefore needs weight up front. Certainly when I tested the balance with the 40LA it appeared to be in need of some nose weight. Just checked spare engines and the best option I probably have is an Enya SS40 2 stroke which I acquired last year in a job lot of stuff. It is carbless, but I have found an Enya one amongst the bits that fits so could be a match. I will clean the engine up later this week and see if I can get it running as a back up if I don't end up using the LA40.
  17. Ah ok thanks Denis. Re the batteries, I have been led to believe that 5 cell was best approach for 2.4g radio, especially Spektrum.
