  1. I recently purchased the RM TX16S. Updated to latest EDGE TX. I also have Spektrum kit and have successfully bound some of the Spektrum Receivers.

The RM TX will be used for electric whilst the Spektrum eventually will control my i.c. models.

EDGE TX is quite a learning curve and I have found Youtube a treasure trove, in particular Painless360 and RC Video Reviews.

Thing is the system is clearly v good for quad fliers.

For fixed wing it is also good, however if not careful you can find yourself being sucked into a world of sensors and mixing which in truth you do not need, its exponents  will hail the stuff it can do, and rightly so.

I have to question on occasions do I need it, does it aid me, is it a safety feature.

I am not knocking just giving my take on it, as I am entitled to do having purchased it an some other ancillary components.

Would I recommend it, value for money for certain, learning curve there certainly is.

As an aside if you want an ELRS module see the BMFA classified.

  2. Now there is a title to grab your attention. I was watching a flitetest video on youtube and noted there was a young person there who had there arm amputated from the elbow.

It struck me that they may not be able to use a TX without modification, If its already been done then I apologise. My thoughts were having the elevator and aileron on a stick with the slider being used for the throttle and a two poisition momentary switch, (neutral in the middle and left or right rudder by flicking the switch one way or the other. I am pretty sure this could be done on an edge TX operating system with suitable transmitter. Just think it seems a shame those disadvantaged by lack of hand operation dont get to enjoy the hobby.

That said one of you may already know of some cracking device to enable the less abled to join us.

  3. Interesting article regarding the drone delivery and 'grab of airspace'. Thing is are they are delivering stuff to the NHS , in which case is the pharmacy located at the take off point or  does stuff have to be delivered there first.

OR is this a concept experiment in which case the whole of the UK would be a no fly zone for models, light aircraft, handgliders, micro lights etc and yes I know that this was the very reason RID is being proposed.

The funding provided by the state? should be reclaimable if they get the go ahead. A proper trial would be to have a minimum of 60 up in the air at the same time leaving and travelling to assorted points within the corridor. Then it could be seen how they avoid one another. If they are using RID to aid avoidance then any company using airspace occupied by models, light aircraft, handgliders, micro lights etc should have their RID equipment purchased and supplied by the commercial operator.

They are invading airspace already in use and if the governments intends licensing and thereby generating an income seems only fair that the operators also shell out to the current authorised users.

    Just a thought

  4. I am in the fixed income retiree group. As I stated it may be the final straw for some.

Regarding 'bad law' it doesnt get changed by ignoring it !

We have placed our thoughts and provided them to the CAA. The outcome is awaited.

I have no intention of packing it in, nor do i see modules, should they be required be prohibitive in cost, unless of course manufacturers decide to milk it.

Less hysteria and a little patience is the order of the day.

  5. Its correct to say that overpopulation is the main issue here.  I note Matty B's breakdown however its not the numbers its the requirement and needs of the population. Then we have the so called aspiration to emulate the 'western lifestyle'. A hugh part of the problem is in fact the west's constant strive for for growth. A certain individual, now deceased, has a product which is constantly being update, previous products it would appear having had a built in obsolescence, people with the must have syndrome. If we did more repairing of products and did away with the constant alleged improvements to drive growth, which only benefits companies and their shareholders we could see a different world.

Many years ago I read a short story where cars and good were manufactured only to be moved to factories near by were they were disassembled, off to foundries, melted down and returned metal for products.

The reason, to keep people in work and thereby out of mischief, but the over arching matter was a stable economy and not so much damage to the surroundings as the populace had what they required. No new gizmo which did the same as the previous model but had a bit more glitz.

If we move from the glitz to the repairable and functional, apart from a few billionaires we could all benefit.

Whilst I appreciate growth has its benefits it is not the be all and end all, though truth be told it is the end all because everything that grow eventually dies. So keep buying swank glittering stuff and when you replace that for another round of swank and glitz do us all a favour and have it buried with, it may not be degradable but if someone or something comes along in the future and digs it up they just might recognise how the world ended.

  6. Of course they will up the taxes Matty and when they reach the tipping point a green levy will be imposed on electric vehicles, probably graded by the weight of the vehicle.

May also include a dirty tax for the additional particles from the braking system.

Even a low carbon society has to raise revenue
