  1. Read the link. Looks like it's diverged quite a lot from the original idea of building a cheap model in a very short space of time. Not sure that's for me , perhaps because I've now got more time to invest and the urge to get into more complex building. Tim
  2. Interesting to hear these thoughts. I only joined the forum this January so am not aware of the genesis of the MB's . I had almost decided on the skywriter before I saw it was a MB. I have thoroughly enjoyed the exchanges thus far, I have found it both fun and informative. Catching up with new techniques and materials from when I had last built has been great. It used to be you go explore in your local model shop and see all sorts to look at and ask about. Nowadays it's all online which is not the same. I did visit one of the few high street retailers and was very disappointed, I may as well have gone on line. Sure there must be some good, real shops out there but none near me. However I digress, the main driver has been to have fun with like minded people I have never met. The MB provides an enduring theme to focus that interchange. If it was designed to be educational and stimulating to non conventional builders then great but for me it is about having fun. Being educated further is symbiotic with fun and that will always be the key ingredient. Perhaps I'd better go and read the historical threads now and see if I am talking out the top of my head. Tim
  3. Well I have no idea if there is a design out there but I have aspirations to build an electric twin someday. I'm thinking sport mosquito type of thing. Probably just fantasy but you never know. Tim
  4. Thanks Lucas, It is currently restrained sideways only by the cutouts in the hatch end formers that fit over the longerons . I have been debating putting some 'tabs' on the inner side face which is what I think you are suggesting. Certainly going to need some form of pseudo handle like Lyndsy had or it will be nearly impossible to get off. Alternative is use two little latches to keep it straight but that seems to go against the concealed feature of the magnets....but would give something to grab when pulling it off. Tim
  5. So although I do not yet have the right size prop I wanted to check motor position and prop clearence with the cowl. It's clear but only just so a bit more sanding required on the front.
  6. The hatch feels really solid having used 4 sets of magnets. Not decided whether to use a mini latch as well or not yet. Perhaps I'll get used to relying on magnetism if I wait a bit.
  7. Finished all the top sheeting and front cowl followed by a lot of sanding. Must clear up the mess soon. That nose looks really long when you think we're the pilot would sit.
  8. The original was obviously melted together by a hot wire (wire was still in the join) so melting it is a thought. Perhaps use the mini torch fitting on my gas soldering iron. ... and yep I might well go electric in due course; just wanted something quick and easy while I was building other stuff. Did you really mean bind two Rx's to one tx ? Did not know you could do that but sounds an Elegant solution if it works without confusing the tx computer. Tim
  9. Hi, Anyone know where I can source an integral fuel tank and engine pod like the one in the photo. The original is over 45 years old and I have just resurrected my big impala of similar vintage and had to clean the grunge out of the tank by breaking the original weld. Cyno has worked for a dozen or so flights but I have had to re glue again today. I can not find anything similar available on line. Any help appreciated. Tim
  10. I'm sure you won't but don't forget the front top formers and cowl bottom which are all drawn undersize. Tim
  11. I only have two existing u/c , one too big and one that is so old, battered and bodged I'd be ashamed to put it on a new model! Tim
  12. Cut and bent the u/c to shape today while waiting for glue to dry.
  13. With regard to the inserts I also noted they did not seem to make a 3mm. Also noted Lyndsy used 4mm on the original. Might just stick with the T nuts. Tim
  14. Now for the ammonia trick. Certainly clears your sinuses!
