  1. I keep looking at the laminated tailplane and wing tips that Lucas and John (others too ?) are using. Looks so elegant I think I going to have to give it a go.... Tim
  2. Not sure had the building entered knife edge . Better this way up.
  3. John, its an overlander 900kv,770W 3548/05, 60A ESC and a 4s Lipo. Spec says an 11x8 but thats is a bit of testing yet to do. Tim
  4. F1 back to F7 all glued. Motor appears to point in the right direction.
  5. Not looked at the wing design much yet but the webbing seems like a good thought. I copied your firewall jig last night; then built it upside down which would have produced left thrust ! Now re- done for another try. Sun and wind today so I have managed to mow an airstrip on my field for the first time. Hand launching is quite limiting so pleased with that😊 Tim
  6. Yes John the outer stringers are on. I intend to talk nicely too it to it when bringing the tail together; perhaps with a whiff of ammonia ! Tim
  7. Really love the building jig. Might never have found that without you guys. Certainly looks wide when you stand it up. Nothing glued as yet just wanted a look see. Tim
  8. interestingly even though the fuzz sides were cut short in the wood pack the actual length of the wood was just right. So I undid the cnc cut with some thin cyan , extended the lines and hey presto. Join looks good enough for now. will pay more attention later. Doublers glued on , flush top and bottom as per plan not with the 6mm gap at the top as indicated in the original build log.
  9. I was just about to comment on the same thing as I check through the plan/wood pack. Definitely got tailplane and rudder shaped ply bits which never seemed to make the final build. Guess the open structure feel won the day. Sure the ply will come in for something.
  10. So I have plans, wood and the critical item - straining fluid so I had better get started. The CNC pack I had yesterday still has the fuzz cut short so better fix that to start with.
  11. Derek, Got the cnc pack yesterday, but yet to check if it has been updated. Tim
  12. Well I may have a different perspective and I'm not sure I class as a newbie. I started building models as a kid in the late 60s . I remember a stringer covered Dornier 27 being one of my first (rubber then .049 free flight) . Built many after that, SE5a, several kits from KielKraft etc as ARTF did not exist. Last models I built in the mid 70s were a scale Cessna 172 and a Maraicardo. That was all a long time ago but I remember that all being challenging, that was a large part of the fun. Now 40 years later I have a couple of foamies , resurrected an old model from the loft and again am looking for a bit of challenge. Skywriter seemed to fit the bill admirably. Of course I have yet to start the build but with all the help from you existing builders I am not expecting insurmountable problems. For me it looks just right. Got the wood, got the motor, got the fuselage jig , just need the plans and the straining fluid. Tim
  13. I saw you mentioned ammonia in your build log. That's a new one on me. Just normal household stain remover type stuff ? Tim
  14. Aha I searched slec looking with most keywords but not jig ! Got it now. Many thanks
  15. Thanks for the help. Inevitably another tangential question. I see a lot of the squared board or board covering in use. Looks handy, where do You all get that from? Tim
  16. Thanks for the encouragement and nice idea uploading a pdf of the original article ;will go nicely with the build log. Think my motor choice will be an overlander tornado thumper 3548/05. Can you fit a 4S in the Skywriter as I already have one of those.? Tim
  17. Plans and wood packs ordered. Saw you had got a 10% discount sorted as well so that was a bonus . Got to start narrowing down my motor long list now. Tim
  18. Hi all, I'm just returning to the hobby after a 40 year gap and belatedly have started following your skywriter builds. Finding them very interesting so pleas keep on blogging. Having rescued some of my original models from the loft I done some refurb and have been getting some of my flying skills back up to scratch over the winter. I am itching to start building again and was trying to choose between a slec funfly and the skywriter. Since I have always fancied a biplane the skywriter has won the day. Not so much joining the mass build as gleaning everything I can from what you are all doing. So having made the decision I guess I'd better get the plans/parts on order. Tim
