  1. No indeed, the Collection was well worth it. I should be able to make 12th November I think.
  2. That's a pleasant surprise, Little Nellie _is_ here at Old Warden. If I can figure out how to post a picture...
  3. I'm at Old Warden and have had my brekky but I can't see anyone I recognise from last time. Tried Steve's number above but it comes back unrecognised. If anyone happens to pick up this post, please text me on 07767 331031 with pointers as to where the flying site is. Edit: Rich just got back to me to say it's been Storm Brian'ed off. No worries, I'll go see if Little Nellie is still on display here and look out for an updated date. Edited By Rob Meades on 22/10/2017 10:25:34 Edited By Rob Meades on 22/10/2017 10:53:16
  4. A *huge* thank you to Steve for the brilliant day today, along with Graham and Tim, who buffed up the rough edges on my Atom effort, took it up for it's maiden flight and spent some time showing me how not to crash using their own 'gyros later in the day. I will do my best to do all the suggested changes in order to be able to have another go at OId Warden in a months' time. Thanks guys!
  5. Excellent: would you be able to PM me relevant details (time, location, etc.)?
  6. There's mention of a 17th September get together above: would it be OK for me to turn up to have my unflown beastie looked over, maybe even trialled by an experienced hand? I have to be in Keele on 16th with a car full of daughter's flat contents but I'd hopefully be able to make a Sunday thing still.
  7. Hi there: my Atom is complete and seems to travel in a straight line on the ground so I'm now looking for a get together or someone within range of Saffron Walden (north Essex) to show my how to get it off the ground without it suffering s sudden unplanned disassembly. Is the next get together of autogyro types in September 17th?
  8. I spent 6 months building a 1/6th scale Piper Cub from a kit back in 1996 but it was only ever flown twice, by the helpful gentleman from the local RC flying club who lives on my street. I decided it wasn't for me, too stressful, and so I've never personally flown an RC machine. I'm kinda allergic to clubs (I prefer to learn by my own mistakes) but, on the other hand, the idea of some experts being around to prevent the inevitable crash is somewhat attractive. Where/when would the main get together be likely to be? Is that Winterton 23rd to 25th? Edited By Rob Meades on 06/06/2017 22:58:31
  9. I don't seem to be able to edit my post so here's another post to a very short YouTube video of the completed machine: Edited By Rob Meades on 05/06/2017 22:09:10
  10. Hi there. Inspired by a visit to Alexandra Palace for the London model show back in January, I've spent the last four months building myself an Atom (build log here). I finished it yesterday and now I need to do that flying thing, having never flown an RC model myself before :-|. I've collated the advice I found in the original article and the pages here in the bullet points below. I would be grateful for any further advice, or corrections to the advice below, before I arrive at the Crash Zone . get the machine moving forward on the ground, at no more than walking pace with the head pulled back, to allow the rotors to spin up to speed, the rotors are spinning sufficiently fast when they make a "sort of whistling" sound, once they make that sound, add more throttle to achieve jogging pace and the tail should rise, if the machine falls to the left instead, the rotors weren't rotating fast enough, let the machine hop and adjust the trimmers on the sender unit until it flies true, once trimmed, start again and this time add more throttle once the tail rises; the machine should become airborne, get more lift by applying more throttle, rather than by pulling back on the rotors (which tends to act like a brake), it may be necessary to apply rudder to make a sufficiently tight turn.
