  1. dont tell anyone, but i go to Sainsburys stationary aisle. They have perfect Acetate for model aircraft glazing, its the packing/display boxes for pencil cases. ive been collecting it over the last few weeks, theres 2 or 3 different thicknesses all are good and best part its free, and saves buying a carrier bag for the few items you might also pick up while there .
  2. I now built a 20 inch foamie version out of the B&Q green underlay. Im running it on a Quad 1806 2300kv with a 5030 quad prop and a 12amp esc and a 1000mah 3S lipo it draws around 115watts I did have a 6030 prop on it at first but it was too much for my little esc Im surprised at just how well it flies im getting 5mins flat out and 7mins at around 1/3 to half throttle and it drops to about 3.9v per cell   I actually built this to try an Frsky S6R receiver out before I put it in my balsa build, I think I will just get another S6R receiver now for that   Edited By Mike Collins on 05/05/2018 21:04:14
  3. create an album, upload the pictures to the albumthen use the camera icon above your reply to attach them to your post. thats how i do it anyway
  4. Ok I got to maiden it, first try with 6 x 5.5 prop, 75% throttle wasnt enough and it nosed in, no damage except broken prop. second try a 7 x 4 black prop not apc not sure what it is tbh, pulled it around nicely, them added roundels made it easy to see which way it was going after 3 or 4 circuits the motor cut,, but i still had elevon control, it nosed in again but not hard so again no damage. I thought the battery must of died quicker than expected at first so put a fresh battery on and still no throttle, I think my esc is bad as it has a flashing red light and no output power so will order a new esc and try again. during the circuits the 60 % rates was not enough and I did end up on 100% rates mainly for elevation i could stay with 80% rates for aileron control so will now seperate the rates onto seperate switches. now placing an order for an esc and a couple more batteries
  5. I added a couple of roundels to the bottom that may help visibility
  6. Still learning my Taranis, But in the Mixer I have managed to set up 3 lots of rates. for each of left and right Aileron and left and right Elevator I have set a lo mid and hi rate with weights of 30, 40 and 50 respectively. I then assigned them to switch E lo being back, mid being middle and high being forward. the mixes then give me maximums of 60, 80 and 100% rates I also set 30% expo on the inputs on the table it appears to work right so lets hope this works in the way my theory says it works
  7. Thanks TWS, I did think about it after I finished it, I used the left over covering from another previous build. I will try it as is and will have audible telemetry monitoring the RSSI to help but if its still too hard I will hit the bottom with a nice can of fluorescent plasticote spray paint

  9. let me know how you get on, mine is almost finished now so will hope to maiden it in the next few days did you add any thrust angles to your motor to help ?
  10. Thanks Paulo, do you have 3mm reflex and an additional 3mm for travel totalling around 6mm when full up elevator and that would be neutral position when full down elevator ? Regards Mike
  11. almost completed my build now, just waiting on magnets for the top hatch reading this thread it sounds a bit harder to fly than anything else i have so far last questions i think i set the 3mm reflex but want to set up dual rates how many mm travel in each direction should i use for each rate ? and how much expo for each rate ?
  12. I have a few 2208 2212 and 2215 motors between 1080kv and 1280kv already, would any of these be ok for this or should i just get that 1400kv, I dont need excessive speed yet ) Mike
  13. guess not, I am continuing my build using all your photos, It should be enough I will add pictures later.
