  1. Graham, I am going with Pauls recommendation, predator 4250 580KV motor with probably a 3300 4s. I am have the wings together and the fuselage is getting there. you will love it such a fun build. Jon
  2. Richard, My spitfire is over 50% complete, so planning the next build, so this is great timing. The Spit is a much faster build than the p51, which I put down to confidence and maybe a more tested kit. Not sure which to choose. But both look great options.. Will watch for the sign up sheet.
  3. Paul, Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for. The pics match how I had it working in my head so that's good. Thanks for your help as always. Jon
  4. All Thanks for the info. I do have the extra bits and instructions. I have dry assembled them. The issues is less how they go together more how the cowl is modified. I was hoping someone had already done the mod and could post a couple of photos so I could visualise how it looked.
  5. All, After a break due to the family.. I am back to the bench and making the spitfire. Wing is 90% done and the fuselage has started. I am thinking of doing the battery hatch at the top. Does anyone have any photos of how it works. Mostly thinking of how the cowl is cut. Thx Jon
  6. Paul, thanks for the quick response. Before I put the bottom skin on where does the uc doubler go on the uc plate. Looking at others photos I cannot quite work it out. Thanks again.
  7. Paul, that's what I thought. Before I put the bottom skin on where does the uc doubler go on the uc plate looking at others photos I cannot quite work it out.
  8. All, after finishing my foamboard Mosquito ( which I hated building but is a dream to fly) I am back to good old wood. I have started on the spit and loving it. I am making good progress..... but I have a quick question. Do the blocks in the photo go in the wings for the retaining bolts to go through and stop the skins getting crushed?
  9. Paul, It was just one of the scale guys at my club thought the prop looked and sounded like it was going round but not doing much.... also 5 min flight I am using 40% batt. I might see if I can get it on my watt meter and maybe a luggage scale to see what's happening. From a design perspective i am new to cad and design but it really interests me so trying to thing of ideas of things to model.
  10. I have had a quick go on Fusion360 after all the good stuff going on here and tried to design a new version of Glens fancy prop bits. I see a number of FMS Mustang users put a cable tie in the prop holder to give them more pitch. My model seems to be using very little battery I wondered if a bit more pitch might give it a bit more punch. I have a Resin printer rather than FDM but its been a fun first design project. I will print them out and see what happens.... Would love to work with some guys to help design some bits and pieces
  11. Mine just arrived will fit before next flight
  12. Paul, I am planning it for the winter.... its on the shelf ready to go. Just need a month or 2 break before I get going oh and build the foamboard Mossie.
  13. All, I do have to thank Richard for designing an amazing plane that a beginner can build and fly. It flys so well. I also have to thank Paul, Eric, and the rest of the guys who have helped and encouraged, without you guys I would not have a flying model. So big thank you guys.
  14. Hi, I will give the esc another programme and see if that works. Must say it flys so well. I was scared on the maiden after 1.5 years of work on it but it was a pussycat like a trainer. Looks fantastic in the air. It was a windless day so landings were fast. I somehow bent one of the landing struts, but it bent forward which is odd. Quick fix I hope. Gordon I did a few taxi runs and she did move, I went with lots of rudder and she kept straight on take off could have done with more on landing though I would go with almost full rudder but 30% expo.
  15. Hi, thanks guys Batteries are brand new nano-tec 4s 4000mah Motor is Predator 4250 kv580 I tried to set up the esc. I followed the instructions but not sure if it took the setting.
  16. All, Managed to escape childcare and got to maiden, Queen Jean. I got 2 flights. She flew on rails one click of down and one click of left was all that was needed rates felt good.... Only one issue she was really lacking in power. I had to use 75%+ power and still would not have been Been able to loop. A climb to altitude was was tricky. 3 min flight had 70% battery left and 4min had 65% left so its not using full power I think? Any ideas
  17. So the yellow is Tamyia yellow. I wish I could be flying but every weekend will be child care this summer so not much chance of taking her out for a month or 2. So I will be trying to finish her off this week in case I get a chance to fly. Then start the foamboard mossie....
  18. Paul, Thanks I had read that post and even made the bat box as oer the design.
  19. Andy, yes with the wings on. Moved the battery back, it now balances somewhere between 90 -100mm from the leading edge. Is this OK? All up weight with battery etc is 2.9kg -3.0 or 6.6 lbs Thanks
  20. Graham, I have not done much surgery yet just un-mounted the battery extension. I am not sure where the CoG is at the moment other than its not where is meant to be and to balance it out took over 137g of weight on the elevator to balance it. I am planning on re-balancing it over the long weekend to see exactly where it does balance. the 4 bladed prop and ali spinner do weigh a considerable amount. My plane seems to be spot on weight wise but all that weight could be sitting on the tail. I will let you know how it goes.... Jon
  21. Graham, I have added the battery extension but I did not take it back to the instrument panel. Just performed some more surgery to remove it. Managed to get it out intact (must have used lots of Glue!!) So re-reading the posts I will move it back to the cockpit area. I have tested the location and the battery should slide quite far back. I have also moved the ESC from just behind the motor as Paul had his to as far back as I can get it. not sure how much cooling it will get in its new location but we can test and see. Thanks for all your help guys. Jon
  22. Graham, I have added the battery extension but it might have to extend it again to move it back.
  23. I am not sure what happened it triple posted then the photos disappeared. Very odd. Well did some more weathering. Put her on the balance she needs 137g on the tail..... Might try to move the esc back to see what that does to the balance any ideas?
  24. Geoff the decals are from Richard. I think they were were made by Glenn but I am sure the team will correct me if I am wrong.
