  1. Well the Ka8b has left the building, winging its way to Somerset via my Hermes. What with that & the shopping arriving, didn't get much done this morning. Three packets from the postman had to be examined, magnets, webbing & velcro. So after lunch I measured up for a pair of Lipo straps, cut 2 lengths of spruce & epoxied them in place to reinforce the motor box to the firewall & finally tried the Tamiya replacement paint, which looks like another coat will be needed to cover the original black. That's enough excitement for today.
  2. Since last August I've spent around £2K at the shop, just wish it was nearer.
  3. Hi Denis Don't worry, the picture was taken before I'd finished off the joints, it looked a lot better when I'd finished. This was my first attempt with all new kit for 11 years & my mind was on other things.
  4. Following my experience with the tyre kicker I resolved to put all my efforts into selling the Ka8b, which is now done just awaiting collection by My Hermes. So the Pilatus has been on the back burner, literally. The paxolin sheet I ordered to make the flap control horns from arrived, & one of our forthcoming Hospital visits has been brought forward to Thursday. So in between lulls in packing the glider I dug out the soldering kit bought a lifetime ago, (so it seems) & soldered one of the plugs from ebay onto the 4Max Esc. & that's about it. Maybe tomorrow after MH collect the glider I can concentrate on the Pilatus.
  5. Anyone having trouble with the BMFA Classifieds reply service. I've had six emails to different enquiries bounce back as un-deliverable. Sent them an email but just wondered if anyone else had problems.
  6. Posted by Andrew767 on 24/02/2019 20:50:59: Still coming on nicely Eric...Looking forward to seeing it finished. Andrew Hi Andrew Hopefully things will speed up now, although it seems I sort one problem & 5 others appear. I was looking at where to put the pilots today as I want to get easy access to the radio. Where they are shown in the comic is incorrect. The full size version has the pilot on the left & much further forward. As I mentioned earlier, I hope to mount a camera to give shots from various angles, one being from behind the pilot looking through the windscreen over his shoulder. However, the windscreen is so hazy I would have to insert a clear panel. Onward & upward hopefully. Regards Eric.
  7. Posted by Percy Verance on 24/02/2019 18:30:02: 27 bob for the Outlaw. A veritable bargain....... Those prices look fairly healthy for 1957. I should imagine you could have a night out, and get fish & chips on the way home for the same price......... I started work in 1955 as an apprentice Refrigeration Engineer. take home pay about £1 18s 6p, by 1957 it had risen to around £2 18s 6p & I was running a Mobylette moped, times sure have changed. 8. After checking in detail the PDF suggested by PatMc, I decided to risk £15 on the original plan from the USA. It has 2 supplementary sheets showing the ribs & other items. I've put it in the to do queue.
  9. Posted by Piers Bowlan on 24/02/2019 14:56:29: Eric, do you think you might epoxy some triangular stock or even strips of spruce around the circumference of your ply motor mount where it butts up to the firewall. I just thought it might increase the glueing area of the mount. Hi Piers If you check my last but one post, the last sentence says I was going to do that very thing, plus a couple of self tappers. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. Disappointing day today, thought I had a buyer for the Ka8B, but it turned out to be a tyre kicker who just wanted to knock me down. Didn't have the heart to do much after that, dug out the 4Max Esc & HK Zippy lipo for the Pilatus to check for fit, found the Esc needed a male plug to connect to the lipo. Ordered a pair of male plugs from Ebay, have to break out the solder when they arrive.
  11. Posted by Percy Verance on 24/02/2019 12:58:25: Could be the camera angle or a trick of the light David, but there looks to be warp in the starboard outer wing panel......which perhaps isn't all that surprising given the age of it! I can't recall the name of this type of wing configuration. Polyhedral is it? Very Graupner Amigo....... Edited By Percy Verance on 24/02/2019 12:59:57 If you blow the picture up it looks like the s/board wing tip has less dihedral than the port & the fuselage is banana shaped unfortunately.
  12. Posted by PatMc on 24/02/2019 12:19:22: It can be downloaded as a pdf file from here. Then either printed as a number of tiled pages or better saved on a memory stick & taken to a copy shop & printed off at full size. PS the 45" span one is the later rc KK model of the same name but bearing no resemblance. Edited By PatMc on 24/02/2019 12:21:12 Thanks PatMc. Done that. It looks as though that was the kit plan as the details are a bit sparce. Thanks anyway, it's a start.
  13. Posted by Percy Verance on 24/02/2019 12:15:15: I think the plans are available on Outerzone Stearman. Yes I saw that one but it's a smaller version. 45 inch I think.
  14. My nostalgia gene has been twitching & looking back at the mid fifties when I had a Keil Kraft Outlaw. I didn't build it but acquired it somehow. It didn't have an engine but I had an old ED Bee 1cc salvaged from a wrecked control liner & converted to a remote fuel tank. One Saturday I took it to our local field, Chadwick Dams, filled the 15cc tank started the engine, didn't bother how much fuel there was & hurled it skywards, more in hope, than expectation. It was a blistering hot day & the Outlaw circled ever higher until it was a spec in the sky. The engine stopped & I expected it to circle gracefully back to earth. It didn't, it must have been caught in a thermal & began to drift towards Stamford Park. So I set off at the trot to try to retrieve it. I reached the park about a mile away with the Outlaw still just in sight. Stalybridge was next & by the time I reached the railway viaduct, I was knackered, with no sign of the Outlaw loosing height, eventually, I gave up hope & returned home thinking it was lost forever. Two weeks later, I got a message from the guy I bought the Outlaw from, It had finally landed on a tent where a couple of campers had pitched at Coombes Rocks, which was at the Buxton side of Glossop, at least 10 miles away from where I launched it. His name & address had been in the plane & the campers had returned it to him, he paid them 5/- for their trouble. So a couple of days later I collected it, paid him the 5 bob, with a few holes in the covering, but still flyable. I was thinking it may be a suitable subject for electric power & have been doing some searching to see if anyone does a kit or plan. The only thing I've come up with at present is a plan of a 50 inch version in the USA. I don't suppose anyone has an original kit or plan they want to pass on (sell)
  15. Posted by Stearman65 on 18/02/2019 11:48:23: Posted by David Mellor on 18/02/2019 11:43:46: Well, it was the balance method in general that I was referring to........ Just bought one of these on Ebay. **LINK** Edited By Stearman65 on 18/02/2019 11:50:11 My digital spring balance arrived this morning. Looks OK for the money.
  16. Postman arrived early this morning, brought the cheepo power drill I ordered in case my battery drill finally give up the ghost. Also the digital spring balance I will be using to check the pull when I fire up the motor. This was mentioned in another thread. I drilled a hole in the motor mount packing, then set to aligning the motor & mount assembly inside the cowl. It didn't fit as I would have liked, on examining I found one of the dummy exhaust stubs fouling the motor, did some judicious trimming & got it to fit correctly. I hadn't yet drilled the mount holes in the metal reinforcing band for the cowl, so I was able to play around with that to get everything aligned. I then carefully removed the spinner backplate & cowl & drew around the motor mount. Decided to use aliphatic to glue the two surfaces together & managed to get one clamp to hold it in place. I'll leave it overnight then fit additional bracing to make sure it's secure.     Edited By Stearman65 on 23/02/2019 13:16:06 Edited By Stearman65 on 23/02/2019 13:18:06
  17. This picture off the BG site shows the TP in more detail.
  18. Posted by Denis Watkins on 22/02/2019 21:11:44: You know a flat bottom wing is higher lift at low speed Good for landing and delaying stalled wing Usually set at zero Half would be good on the horizontal stabiliser, as I believe that is pushing the nose down I don't like incidences on any model, and prefer to fly and trim AND C of G will be critical with all the drag If it's the same manufacturer as my Storch, it could be Dancing Wings. When I conversed with them about the Storch & the fact the manual couldn't be downloaded from Banggood they sent me a copy, then it appeared on BG's site. I'm sure they would respond if it is their kit, their email address is [email protected] Alternatively, the web site is **LINK**

  20. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 22/02/2019 21:24:37: Your last post on there looks to be blank The last post was a duplicate of the previous post. As I couldn't delete the post, I just cleared the content of the duplication, hopefully when I add this it will show in latest posts. Edited By Stearman65 on 22/02/2019 21:45:18
  21. Posted by Pete B - Moderator on 22/02/2019 18:46:58: Thread seems to be OK now but your post at 15.38.05 has no content apart from an 'edited by' footnote...? Can you try uploading the contents again? Pete Hi Pete, The blank post was a duplicate of the previous one. For some reason it got duplicated. Couldn't delete it only remove the content. Regs Eric.
