  1. I have just been playing with my Phoenix sim and have found out I can upscale my model. What a revelation. I can now see it. Also it flies slower and I can control it better. A real joy to fly again. Nigel N
  2. Sounds like the Laser 5 is the business. Just worked out that to mix it your self comes out at £21.79 a gallon. Cheaper to buy it ready mixed. As Tartan Mac says it,s just not worth the hassle. Its the nitro that cost the money, if you stick with just castor added then a lot cheaper but not really worth it.     Edited By nigel newby on 08/11/2018 16:24:03
  3. Well that's that then. It looks like Laser5 is the stuff to go for. When I start getting low, I will pop in my local shop and ask for some. They might already have it in stock, as I just asked for dynaglow, as that was what I have used for years. I wonder if the local bakers stocks fat rascals?
  4. Certainly does Jon, Trouble is my local shop does not seem to stock it. I use Addlestone models. I do try to support my local shops when I can Nigel N
  5. Now it gets complicated, TWO Nigels. Yes sorry about the multi posts. Computer looked like it was not working right, so clicked more than once and hey presto, multi postings. Tried to delete them but no joy. The Rascals look good, but I really love a big chunk of bread pudding. Nigel N
  6. I quite agree Frank, but with £72 to play with, I am sure it will still prove cheaper. I guess the main problem is that it just ain't worth the hassle, unless you use gallons a month. Back to Fat Rascals, Yes Bruce, very helpful. My mouth was watering with your description. Also as you say yours are clones/forgeries because a real fat rascal, as seen on Bettys web site, has only 2 glazed cherries and not 3. A simple mistake to make, unless as you stated these are scallywag's and not rascals. Nigel
  7. Eh up Eric thou must think were all wassocks down ere in low county's. £8.80 for 4 bloody scones, that's £2.20 each. Thou' s the pilock if thou thinks we's rich folk and can af'ord that.
  8. Bruce, what are Fat Rascals?
  9. Just been looking through the forum and someone suggested Weston fuels. They sell Liquid Gold 5% at around £12 a gallon. Or £7.32 half gallon A much better price. Only trouble is (Due to EEC regulations) they only despatch in cases of four. But still a much better price
  10. I was just wondering how many on here mix their own fuels? Is it worth the trouble. I was looking on e bay and 20 ltrs of methanol is £27. That's about 4 1/2 gallons I just paid £12 for half a gallon of fuel. Big difference.
  11. Thanks for that chaps. Just needed to know. I often put 2 stroke fuel in my lawnmower, as we had a small motorbike which my grandson rides around the garden on. Rather than work out which can had 2 or 4 stroke petrol, I just added oil and made them all 2 stroke Problem solved
  12. All I know that castor oil made me run well. If we saw matron with the bottle you would run away as fast as you could. If you got given the dreaded castor oil, you would soon be rinning to the toilet. Most fuels are made using a variation of things. Here is model technics duraglow fuels E.D.L. Oil Castor Oil Nitromethane Methanol Duraglo Str 9% 6% 0% 85% Duraglo 2 9% 6% 2% 83% Duraglo 5 9% 6% 5% 80% Duraglo 10 9% 6% 10% 75% Duraglo 16 9% 6% 16% 69% Duraglo 25 9% 6% 25%
  13. Thanks for the info chaps, will have some fun sometime soon. Had set up for failures , but it just went into a spin and that was that. Or on a low turn engine failure and it was ib=n. Still at least it self repairs in 3 seconds
  14. I went to belle view aces speedway, back in the 60s. Found it boring.
  15. I know this is a silly question, but do I need special fuel for a four stroke engine, or will my normal model technics 5% nitro be ok.
  16. Nothing to do with the plane, but I recall spending many an hour, at a stile with a sentry box at Woodford aerodrome, hoping a Vulcan would take off back in the mid 60s
  17. Is it possible to set up Phoenix, so that the plane does things like tip stals dutch rolls etc. It would be nice to practice recoverys. Nigel
  18. Hi Peter, thanks for your comments. Have just done another run on the motor, and I am now up to 5 minutes run time. So things are looking much better than they were. I dare say another couple of discharge/charging sessions and all may well be ok. At least it is now usable. The funny thing is that I have 4 multimeters, and they all read different voltages. One shows nothing, another shows about 2.5 volts, and it is set to dc not ac. Another digital shows 7.8 volts, and my ever trusty post office meter shows 7.4 volts. That is are having just done a 5 minute run on the motor. So I dare say all cells are giving out a voltage as that battery should be 7.2 volts. So when we have some decent weather and I have some spare time I can go flying. Not been lucky with batteries lately, having not only just bought new batteries for my radio gear, but also my camera, and a new battery for the car. All the best Nigel
  19. Hi Ron, I think you are right. You have a good eye for model planes. It looks like one apart from the nose, and I suspect that that is different to accommodate the engine and exhaust. I think I might get some thin ali and make a cover for it just to make it look better, although I suspect it would fly well just as it stands. Nigel
  20. Trebor, I have had a look and someone was selling one on ebay, so have some nice piccys of where stuff should go. That should help a lot Nigel
  21. Hi Mike, That's a nice plane. I bet that that can beat up the sky. These people are normally called Philistines. I don't know why, because, I was once called a Philistine, but I knew I wasn't because I was born in Hammersmith. But it's a case of one mans meat is another mans poison. Still I have got four nice models from there. It just goes to show what people dump at the tip. I just wished I had asked for their address, as I might have got a lot more, although they might have already dumped them. Nigel
  22. Hi chaps thanks a lot so far. Blimey you guys are quick off the mark, amazing. Yes Broken English, you are right, I remember now it is a Hepcat. Nice little flier, have spent many a happy hour with it. Funny thing, the landing gear got a bit shot with landing in the gorse sometimes. I was wondering how to fix it, and when I got it back out, it had been fixed. Amazing the model repair faries must have done it sometime, as for the life of me I cannot remember doing it. A nice surprise. Ok Trebor and Denis on the precedent BiFly. Will have to see what I can find out about it. Landing gear etc. Trebor I see you have a nice red one, so might be asking question later. But not at the moment. Would be nice to find out what my red one is? All the best Nigel
  23. Thanks for that Martin, Will try a few more discharge/charges but I have a new battery winging its way to me as we speak. I am now getting about 3 mins full throttle, although I do not know what it should do on a 2500, as my last battery was an 1800. This as I said would go up for a while then turn the motor off and glide till it required another boost. But I know other at the club who get 7-8 mins from a battery and that is belting around the sky, but I do no have a clue what their set up is. Must ask next time I'm there. Pat Mc the first picky you showed is very much like mine, but my elevator is about 1/3 of the way up the rudder. Mine is a seagull 2200, flies nice and gentle. All the best to you all, and thanks a lot for all your help. Nigel
  24. Hi all, just though that I should stick up piccys of my planes. I know what some of them are, because it says so one the plane, but others I have either forgot, or just don't know. This first one above is an old Ben Buckle kit. 3 channels, and a .25 engine in it. Flies nicely though, and does the normal aerobatics, for a 3 channel. Don't know what model it is though as I have forgot. This one is the Arising star. 4 Channels and an OS 40 engine. Great 4 channel trainer, nice and big with a 60" wingspan. Got it brand new on EBay for about £30. Has been in the loft for awhile now and the pure white covering on the fuselage has now turned a dirty off white colour. I have not got the foggiest what this is. Has a 60 engine in it. I have still to fly it, just needs servos and a little tidying up. This was a model some one took up our local tip to throw away. I picked up several planes from them but never got there address, as I was also given several sets of wings all in a big box, so I bet there were several more planes. I did not have much cash on me, but gave them what I had. This one is called a Carnival, also from the tip. 3 channels and about a 48" wingspan. It came with the engine. Must put a receiver in it againand fly it. Nice to fly, but will not take off from the ground as it seems to do a Dutch roll, so now I always hand launch. Another one from the tip. Still needs finishing, but it should not take to long. Would be nice to know what it is though, As it could help in finishing it, and getting it ready to fly. This is a single wing Tiger Moth, It is about 3/4 finished. Require a 40 engine to power it. Needs the servos fitting and the tail feathers fitting. Yet another plane from the tip. A HiBoy Precendent. This was my first ever 4 channel plane. My one took some serious punishment, before a battery failure caused it to spin in from quite a height. Never really like it that much as I was still learning to fly, and it was heavy and fast. This one came complete with servos and an engine and even a receiver. Just needs a battery and it is ready to fly. This is one of my first gliders. Used to go up with a bungee launch. Now requires some minor repairs to the elevator. This is another model that has taken a battering. The nose and the rear of the plane have both been refitted more than once. Might put in an electic motor some time. Well that's about all at the moment. All the bets to you all and thanks for looking >Nigel
